Comments: PBS filmed their long-running "Soundstage" program in Chicago from 1974 through 1985, and took a lengthy hiatus. After an expensive renovation to their theater within the PBS studios in Chicago, they brought it back in 2003 and began bringing in big-name artists once again.

I was fortunate to get VIP tickets to a few of these tapings during the 2000's; my favorite was the Fogerty special. The theater is very small (I would guess it holds no more than 250-300 people) and acoustics are fantastic; as a VIP, I was lucky to have a good seat in about the 10th row .. if I had been 10-15 years younger, attractive, and female, I would likely have been about seven rows closer, but beggars can't be choosers. (The PBS staffers hand-selected attractive young women to dance in the front rows, since they are most likely to appear on the broadcast.)

The performance was great; Fogerty was his usual high-energy self. Filming needed to stop and re-set periodically, but the pace was similar to an actual concert and the crowd was into it. During the breaks, Fogerty had an easy banter with the audience; when the breaks were a bit longer, he came over and visited with his wife and young daughter (she couldn't have been more than 5 or 6 at the time). I remember him doting on her and thinking it was very sweet.

Anyway, if you are a Fogerty/Creedence fan, this one's a keeper. Sound and picture are both excellent, and the multicamera mix keeps you engaged in the show. Highly recommended. I'm surprised it hasn't been on Dime in years.

Many thanks to "JTT" (a.k.a. Jacktomthumb) for purchasing this at a record fair and putting the effort into cleaning it up in November 2009 for this mix.
