Anybody who is a fan of musical diversity MUST download and listen to this concert. If you are a Robert Palmer fan, you will be in heaven. If you don't like or don't care about Robert Palmer, you will be amazed at how good this concert is. He switches fluently from rock to funk to pop to rap to punk to crooner-type songs, and it ALL SOUNDS GREAT! Half of the songs are covers ranging from Jermaine Jackson to Husker Du, from Connie Francis to Kurtis Blow, not to mention ZZ Top... I have never heard a concert by anyone with better pacing between up tempo, slower songs, and back again. The buildup in the 2nd half of the concert from the slow songs on is devastating.

Bonus tracks include Power Station's only ever performance with the original lineup from Satuday Night Live in February 16, 1985.

*** - Missing from this show. They were broadcast via the Radio as part of the set, maybe on Version B of this BBC vinyl. Sorry I do not have them to include. There is an FM version of this show out there but I didn't feel confident enough to match up the missing tracks as the quality of both is a bit different.

I received this from a kind trader who had the Version A BBC vinyl. I cut the adverts out but left the Intro & Outro for the nostalgia it brings.

ClickRepair was used for slight cleaning....iZotope Ozone 3 was used to add some warmth & presence to this.

I personally think it sounds great. Certainly a TREAT to have it in a pre-FM format to make it another kick-ass Robert Palmer experience from the early 80's. Thanks to Gary Numan for inspiring this RP sound with the song "Cars".

This BBC version was shared by me before, the only changes since my earlier share of the BBC version is the date correction and minor changes to the text file/ description, none to the music.

As per the description - this differs from other shares as it's sourced from BBC pre FM and not the Westwood One version, which had more treble and overdubbed crowd noise.

This gig has circulated a lot from bootleg CDs and in a pre-FM version, so why is this superior?

Well, the bootleg version is from a tape recording of the FM broadcast - sometimes fine things, but the wear and tear is clear on that version. The similarly widely circulated version from the Westwood One (pre)FM broadcast FM LP has very irksome, loud, shrill shrieking crowds overdubbed over the ends and starts of each song, and excessive treble.

So here is the BBC version - from an early BBC transcription CD no less (there weren't many of those printed out at that time to my knowledge) - and it sounds wonderful, as it should. The bass is slightly sludgy as it was on early CD's but this is made up for a lot by the lack of heavy compression that got inflicted on the majority of CD's from the late 1990's onwards.

Highlights on this recording are Happiness, Change His Ways, and Pride, played and sung with a real joie de vivre. Very nice version of Johnny and Mary too.

A short version of this set has circulated before, but this is a longer version, and in a different mix too. Different mix and longer version than the more commonly found KFBH broadcast mix. It's powerful and clear, I thought it might be pre FM, but seems to be a little static at the start of In Walks Love Again, either that or a recording problem at master stage.
