A complete show from the 73 tour (minus Childhood's End??) as performed in Vienna, according to the package. Sounds great. Some mislabeling, but otherwise no complaints. The title for this RoIO is appropriate for it contains an excellent recording of the '73 version of "Set the Controls...". I was very disappointed with the version on 'Not a Cloud in the Sky' because of the rowdy crowd noise. The 15min version presented here is not marred by such idiots. After listening to Set the Controls, I really feel disappointed that they don't improvise like this in concert anymore. - PIG1DO

This is the first recorder I've found for this gig, so nice I've got directly a so excellent recording! Sound quality is very comparable to the recordings of the other 2 previous dates recorded by the same taper, with the same nice and excited adience too... Great performances by the Floyd!

Notes: Side A start is clean. The tape flip between A New Machine 2 and Sorrow is clean. On the master Run Like Hell appears at the end of side B, having changed tapes back for the final encore. The flip for tape 2 is clean.

Here it is, the infamous Meddled ROIO, feverishly sought after by Floyd fans wanting to hear what Meddler was supposed to sound like before being mistakenly editted to mono.

It came from an FM broadcast over the BBC in England. The stereo dimension adds so much to the recording, you can actually hear very distinctly what each band member is doing. 

This ROIO is just an incredible listen from start to finish. The sound is amazing as is the performance of the Floyd. Fat Old Sun never sounded better. It is important to note, Embryo and Blues came from a different original source I believe. I came to realize, you just can't go wrong with Zeus. What a show! I seriously think this is one of the best performances of the 1972 tour (Boeblingen is up there also). IMHO, you get the best One Of These Days on this show. This concert comes from the original master tape. Very very nice indeed.

Notes:
7th show, 5th city since start of 87 MLOR tour. Only 4 more Echoes were played after this one so that is why I am seeding this, I am aware there is not a lot of demand for 87 Floyd but it’s a good listen anyway.

REMASTER INFOS:
I took the time to improve this one by:
- raising the overall volume
- adjusting the speed as this was running too slow
- setting songs intros at the beginning of each track
Now it sounds a lot better to my ears. This is a nice soundboard from the first leg of the AMLOR tour which deserved
a bit of cleaning. A pity this is just the first part of the show.

The taper, Victor, used the following setup to record both shows: 2 x Sennheiser MD-421 > Uher 4200 reel recorded at 19 ips. Concerning his rig at the time, he had the following to say about it...

"I had my UHER "custom unbuilt" in multiple parts, so I could sneek it in more discretely. Then I built a whole "neck-holder" (like the ones Bob Dylan'd use to hold the harp), a heavy construction sewed in a tough-tissued jacked (often way to hot to bear at concerts...) and the two mics were placed niftily beside each ear hidden by the dutiful long hear..."

He said he has never released these shows directly from the master tapes, but did say, specifically concerning the 11/21/70 show, that “the ‘compilations’ I spoke about, we made them on cassettes only, so if it's the compilations circulating, it very much looks like that probably somebody copied them from these cassettes = 2nd or even 3rd generation.” He did mention that he used to have a number of parties and that, quite likely, what we have in our collections comes from someone copying this “compilation” tape, which would mean that most lineage we have could possibly be bogus.

Him and a buddy of his would usually record the same show and then combine their smaller, 13cm reels into a large reel by splicing their masters together. He describes their method as follows...

"Since we had both a Revox at home that can take the big reels as opposed to the UHER which can only take 13 cm spools and one big reel can hold up to 3 (or 4) small spools, we always recorded on the UHER Side 1 of spool A, and then Side 1 of Spool B and then Side 1 of Spool C and then Side 1 of spool D and then continued the recordings (either he or me) continuously on Side 2 of Spool D and then Side 2 of Spool C and then Side 2 of Spool B and then Side 2 of Spool A. When all spools were full, we scotched them together on one big reel... We never wasted expensive tape to copy onto. Especially since we're really buddies (from childhood), if either one of us wanted to listen to the tape, he'd have it, no problem. So why bother copy (except excerpts on cassette)?"
