This is a very good audience recording from 1968 of the Jeff Beck Group, though rough in places. Still, I am always glad to have more early Jeff Beck shows.

The Jeff Beck Group were co-billed with Blue Cheer and Pink Floyd and on these dates at the Shrine, playing in the middle slot, with Blue Cheer opening and Pink Floyd closing. EVSD included a track by Pink Floyd at the beginning of discs 2 and 3.

::: VERY fine, stereo, up-close AUD (especially for its vintage). Check samples for predilection predictions or to rev yr engines. 
::: Warts: NOT MANY! Some hiss in 1st 4 seconds of #1 with couple of fluctuations due to recovering music that was too low volume to hear - for more Beck! Some lite broad spectrum hiss in right channel. Some light overturation distortion on extremely loud passages but nothing serious! Fixed dropouts & dullspots but likely missed a few. Deleted blank spots between songs. The last 3rd of master tape was clearly in better condition. Lowered some loud clapping between trax. Channels were SERIOUSLY out of phase/alignment (mike spread?) & very different info in channels but was adjusted at ~2 minute intervals & sounds WAY better - without killing the wonderful stereo recording but simply correcting the enormous delay between channels. 
::: COMPARISON CLAUSE: This is a 2014 NEWLY REMASTERED version of the "Miami '68" boot CD DIMED twice before. Part was also included in the upload "Like A Hurricane Primsoul-Live Archives 1968-1969". This HAS the added alternate source 1st track as noted. 
::: CORRECTION CLAUSE: I screwed up & originally uploaded this using the incorrect Miami date/location & MISSING track 1 (which wasn't used on the 'Miami'CD. This is a CORRECTED & COMPLETE remastered version. (OLD version was torrent #492370 Jeff Beck Group 1968-11-16 Miami Beach uploaded on 2014-05-17). 
::: #11 "Rice Pudding" (an instrumental) is introduced here as "Mother's Old Rice Pudding" & as being played for the first time. 
::: Touring to promote the new "Truth" album, which had only been released in August (tho' it'd been in the works for long time!). 
::: No artwork included as some of the photos used could be considered proprietary, sorry. Seek & ye shall find. 
::: Many thanks to KRW_CO for permission to remaster that source for track #1 (so the recording could be completed). 
::: In a previous torrent a DIMER noted the same setlist timed 79:27 but I think it's a typo. This one is 75:41 with speed correction & KRW_CO is 75:38. 


Cool freaking recording & now is some much healthlier ear fodder. Some sources note this as SBD but tis clearly an AUD (but quite hi-fi for its vintage & probable volume of the band). If in doubt about AUD source, go to the break before the end of "Rock My Plimsoul" & you can hear the taper laughing. The extreme stereo mike placement (left mike more at stage or vocal PA, left channel captures more audience) is quite interesting. Perhaps this should be considered a "not-for-purists remaster", as I did a much more volume tinkering than I normally do. The original had problems, but I was fairly agressive here to really improve the sound - in my opinion, for my ears. In fact, it was an important part of the equation after the very extreme channel phase correction. Almost certainly from a reel-to-reel master source originally with possibly 1 or 2 reel generations (doubtful there were any cassette generations). 

I learned a lot about this band thru this tape. Ron Wood playing bass with a real rhythm guitar sound in some songs. I did some reading about Ron on a bass player forum while researching the keys for some songs & one thing they really respect about him is he rarely played something the same way twice. While the quality on this recording is stunning overall, I would say this is not the absolute best Jeff Beck Group performance of the era. They make some mistakes & some of the performances don't gel or are not as explosive as others around of the same vintage. "Jeff´s Boogie" is a bit scattered. The band seems a bit put off by how unresponsive & quiet the audience is. One comment from the band is that it's like playing in a library. HOWEVER... Jeff's making a LOT of strange, experimental guitar noises, seemingly more than usual, though I suspect they are just much more noticeable here than other shows due to the clear sound. I would say this rates near the very top of the "must-hear" JBG shows of '68/69, as it is so painless to listen to & so possible to discern what's going on. Many of the other recordings I have (the Tea Party comes to mind right away) are so distorted, that it is quite hard to get a clear picture of the experience. This is a very cool recording, the Jeff Beck Group in 1968, live, with Rod & Ron & the quality MORE than makes up for ANY lack of performance intensity in my opinion, and, even on a bad day, the smoke was risin' off the stage. 

I had gotten this recording some time back, but recently saw it making the rounds again, but with the notes altered to claim it as a soundboard, which it is (clearly) not. However, it is a wonderful recording.... Anyway, seeing it again, I remembered being puzzled a few years ago why it all sounds like it was coming out of one channel. Well, it was partly the volume imbalance but mostly it was EXTREME phase offset between the two stereo channels. I think one of the mikes was pointing in such a way there was a huge timing difference for when the sound reached the mike compared to the other mike (layman's terms). So, I decided to give it some remastering effort. There was an INCREDIBLE improvement right away. the inital phase correction was 38 cents! Then it had to be adjusted throughout the recording, likely from mike motion. Another thing that really worked for me was the speed correction in the first set, which, tho' not dramatically changed, brought Rod's voice to a more familiar sounding timbre. Do hope you like it.

Excellent FM broadcast of Rod's 1984 Camouflage tour, this is the beginning of the tour when he was supposed to have Jeff Beck play every night with him. Of course, they fought, and after only a few nights Beck left the tour. Beck plays on cd2, INFATUATION thru BAD FOR YOU. This is a good, strong concert, and it makes you yearn for a time when they can put their differences aside and play again. Rare live tracks on here include ALL RIGHT NOW (a Free cover), I AIN'T SUPERSTITIOUS, and GASOLINE ALLEY. THE PUMP is a good, grinding instrumental from Beck. Anyways, if you still haven't gotten this, please enjoy!

The last track on each cd included the length of the unused disc space - whoever made this originally didn't know what they were doing I guess... I haven taken the liberty to edit those tracks. Copies of the original bootleg have been here several times, but not this edited version.

Sending Sweets and Orbit are leftovers from some never released sessions (Steakhouse) and only appeared on this tour to my knowledge. 

Diamond Dust was apparently only played a few times (if that) during this tour. It is the first night of the tour here, and you can tell Jeff can't quite find where to come in as the song begins, but once he gets on board, the usual magic ensues. Jennifer does a great job of playing the Rhodes background on guitar. Enjoy this rather amazing version, you won't hear anything like it again most likely!

Robin Mayhew who was the sound mixer on the Ziggy Stardust tour has released his version of the famous last Ziggy concert. The recording is complete including Jeff Beck and is straight from the soundboard. This is the only surviving recording he has with Bowie. He taped all the shows, but reused the tapes the next day. Therefore only the last show survived. He is selling selfmade CDRs for £12 (UK) and £15 (International) at his website.

Only Mick and Suzie (later) Ronson knew of Bowie's decision to kill of his Ziggy persona that night. I believe Suzie must have told stage manager Peter Hunsley at some point after the interval as he alerted me via the stage to mixer intercom giving me the news. It came as no real surprise to me and quitting while ahead seemed the perfect and logical way to end something which would soon have to become repetitious.

Recorded directly from the sound console. Engineered by Robin Mayhew of Ground Control. This recording was made on a portable cassette machine on the night of the show, transferred to reel to reel in 1976 and to CD in 2008. The only studio engineering done on my recording is to the first part of Wendy Carlos's March from Clockwork Orangebecause the original tape was 

slightly stretched (note you can hear Ronno join in with a couple of chords at the end) and the attenuation of a feedback howl during the opening song Hang on to Yourself.

This posting is done with permission from Robin Mayhew. A lot of thanks goes out to him for giving us this Christmas present at Bowie Station. This is a unique and unaltered recording of what the Ziggy Stardust tour sounded like.

This CDR was released in August 2015 and due to the nature of the recording, and the cheap price, I made a promise to Robin Mayhew not to share it on Bowie Station unless he accepted it.

4 months on, the recordings "news value" has passed and at least one bootleg company has pressed their own version selling it for twice the original price. Therefore Robin Mayhew has agreed to let me post the recording to probably avoid some people buying the overpriced bootleg versions and that others might order the CDR set from him when they first hear the quality of the recording.

I was told by Robin Mayhew to tell that he is now signing the inner sleeve of the CDRs he is selling.

This was a boot on the "Big Daddy" label.It's a strange hodge podge of really good quality soundboard live material from this Beck Group and alternate studio versions from the Rough and Ready sessions. To me, that's the real draw of this. The 2 albums that Beck did with this band are my all time favorite material from him, and this is a great chance to hear some different versions of just about all of the songs from the Rough and Ready release, plus 2 versions of an unreleased track called July 13th. Only the album closer, Jody, is not here. Rayne's Park Blues was what Max's Tune was called on the LP version of this I bought when it was first released. Somewhere along the line it was re-named Max's Tune, and that's what it's been labeled as on later LP pressings and all of the cd issues of this material. Some of these songs are fairly similar to what you're familiar with from Rough and Ready, but all have something different, whether it's Cozy Powell's bass drum pattern, Max Middleton's comping, Bob Tench's vocal, Clive Chaman's feel or fills, Beck's Wah Wah rhythm pattern or solo, or an altogether different feel or performance. This studio material apparently came from tape reels of the sessions that Cozy Powell owned. These surfaced as a 5 cd set (one for each reel) on a Japanese bootleg label. That set went for a ridiculous price, and is not widely available. This 2cd set that I'm liberating has one disc containing all or almost all from these Cozy reels, and another disc of really good live material that's probably been up here in one form or another before. All together, it's a great listen and a great snapshot of Beck in one of his more overlooked eras.

Jeff and Jan as opening act to Fleetwood Mac, so the show's a little shorter than some others from the tour. This one has really has nice sound and the lack of audience noise makes me wonder if this could have been recorded from the side of the stage.
