James Brown in Rome on April 24, 1971. This features Bootsy and Phelps Collins. Originally aired on Italian music program "Teatro 10." This has circulated before but this new version has a few extra minutes compared to previous copies. It seems to be a recent rebroadcast and has excellent b/w picture quality as well as being 16:9. It's only 16minutes but it's fire.

This recording sounds great. It's not even dynamically compressed to hell like some of the Depeche Mode radio broadcasts. It's not the complete show, but it is a complete broadcast. There are a couple small nonintrusive radio station watermarks between tracks 4 and 5, and 9 and 10.

This is something I have been looking for since I first discovered torrents. I recorded this off the air in 1978, then lost the tapes in storage for years. Thinking "I would just download a more complete copy from somewhere".
All six shows are now circulating (3 nights, 2 shows a night)
Thanks to T,
Only the early show from Feb. 4th is from a radio broadcast.
But different from this one.(First live broadcast I would guess).
This recording is from a later rebroadcast that used both the early & late shows, of Feb. 4th. And used the late show for the first two songs.

I have compared this recording note for note (matrix) with the audience recordings to be sure and to set speed/pitch.

This new version adds:
Complete version of "Afterwards"
and almost 2 songs from the late show now from FM
This does not replace or upgrade any previous releases. It stands alone.

Notes:
From the earliest recordings made in 1967 to the sixteenth session in 2002 Bowie has contributed some fascinating live sets to the BBC archives.

The early recordings of Bowie at the BBC particularly hold great interest and document an artist still trying to find his way in the world with apparent giant leaps in style although if you really study them it’s more of a rapid evolution.

Most of the unofficial recordings have variable sound quality and generally attribute the wrong dates to the various sets Bowie performed up to the early 70s. Pick and mix bootlegs confuse matters still further as do the often repetitive set lists. The official Bowie at the BBC release is by far the best available but is far from complete so this is where this new release from Godfather steps in as in contains many of the important tracks missing from the original release and all in excellent quality.

Okay, the four volumes of ‘The Rise and Rise of Ziggy Stardust’ are more complete still, but have poor quality on some sessions. So if you have the official release then the ‘Lost Beeb Tapes’ makes a sensible purchase filling in most of the gaps in great quality.

The first session documents all the tracks from the Top Gear session of 1967. This vaudevillian period is often derided by Bowie fans but in truth the songs reproduced here live are worthy of re-evaluation and Bowie’s juvenilia is much more refined and developed than many would have us believe. These are clever songs for those with open minds and beautifully played.

‘When I’m Five’ is a sentimental monologue from the 1968 Top Gear Session and is the only full studio recording of the song (A rough demo also exists). The Dave Lee Travis Show of 1969 brings us a great version of ‘unwashed and somewhat slightly dazed’ delivered quite ferociously that in some way could be attributed to the then recent death of Bowie’s father.

The 1970 show offers us ‘Waiting for the man’ and ‘The Width of a Circle’ backed by Bowie’s then band ‘The Hype’. Both songs are guitar heavy workouts almost progressive in delivery.

The John Peel show of 1971 is quite an oddity and unique in sound and structure with various guest vocalists and friends helping Bowie fulfil his Warhol-come-Svengali aspirations. The pick of the sessions is the 1971 Bob Harris show featuring just Mick Ronson and Bowie in a stripped down acoustic set of ‘Hunky Dory’ songs. All the songs are played quite superbly and it’s surprising the whole set didn’t feature on the official release. The 1972 Bob Harris session completes the disc with a full on Ziggy version of the Velvet’s ‘White Light/ White Heat’. So it’s a 10/10 for Godfather so far.

Bonus tracks feature three tracks wrongly attributed to ‘Arnold Corns’ with the exception of ‘Moonage Daydream’. Unfortunately more complete and better quality versions of these three bonus tracks are available elsewhere.

Notes:
There is another Phil Collins Captured Live! show, numbered CL 1684, which may be a rebroadcast of these tracks. That show was broadcast on May 14, 1984 and is supposedly sourced from the Warner Theater, too... This was most likely an original Westwood One production which was licensed to other broadcasting companies. Hence a lot of different versions of this concert are known to exist.
This was digitized from a very clean copy of the original LPs. I (that is: draftervoi) spent about two weeks of intense listening to it, removing all the clicks and pops that I could find in Audacity. Included are 300 dpi scans of the cue sheets and one of the disc labels. Since this is over 80 minutes, it won't fit on a single CD - unless you overburn, or fade out the outro.

Filmed: 1976

Comments: German TV film, also shown on Spanish TV in 1976, this is a film all about TD which includes informal interviews and concert/studio footage, most of which seems to have been done exclusively for the film. The interviews are in the German language. The street name in the title refers to where Edgar Froese used to live in Berlin (apparently Klaus Schulze lived on the same street at the time) and is now the site of the TDI offices.

I received this in a trade a few years ago. It also contained bonus material of the Pagart Przedstawa Warszawa Concert from December 10, 1983. This material has been removed per Dime's policy as the audio from this concert has been released on the "Poland" live release.

This DVD shows TD in their prime with plenty of close ups of their massive synth setups. Even though the interviews are in German, it's worth having for the unreleased music they play for this special.

The video quality is very good although there is some pixelation during the darker moments which doesn't detract from the overall viewing experience.

There is a basic menu but no chapters. Artwork is included.

Comments:
This great sounding radio show comes from a well packaged boot entitled "Radio Free". It also contained four BBC tracks as outtakes, but I have chosen not to include them, as at least one is officially released, and the other three may be studio outtakes instead of BBC stuff. You obviously can't trust anything you read on a boot as gospel. These guys even went to the extent of having the disc look like the pink Island label, with the customary bootleg "Not for sale - radio broadcast only" on the disc.

Radio station master! (I think)

**Low-circulation recording**
** A TooleMan Remaster **

Lineage: radio station master reel (probably) -> audio CD's -> EAC -> TheTooleMan's tricks of the trade -> FLAC

Don't let the ragged beginning of this recording fool you. Although it is missing the first two songs of the concert, the quality improves dramatically after several minutes, and starting with the long medley it sounds really great.

This seems to be a professional recording, with open mics mounted on stands -- that's my best guess. Sounds like a lot of the monitor mix was picked up by the mics, as it was very heavy on the midrange frequencies. I took care of that in the master.

I wonder if this recording was made by the radio station that promoted the concert, WLRS. If so, maybe there's a better copy in their archives, or one that can be transferred more cleanly to the digital domain.

Enjoy!

12 - WLRS Award Ceremony
13 - Roundabout

The following paragraph, written by John Mock for Forgotten Yesterdays, explains the award ceremony track:

"Here's some trivia for you...the Tormato tour stop in Louisville on 4/13, 1979 was advertised as a 'big surprise' by the local heavyweight rock station, WLRS-102 FM as Yes was the 102nd concert promoted by WLRS... they attempted to get Pink Floyd as a surprise band to make a double bill....that fell through and their last stop they tried to pull out was free beer for the sold out Freedom Hall crowd, but the promoter would not go with that due to liability and under-age drinking concerns....so the 102nd concert for WLRS turned out to be anti-climactic, just a normal Yes show that was POWERFUL....I need another fix of On the Silent Wings Of Freedom!"

Notes by the uploader
This is a 3LP Box set i have had since the late 70s there is some debate as to where it was recorded. I have been told / looked up the following Side 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 Some say recorded at the Drury Lane Theatre, London June 20. 1971/06/20 Or
Stadthalle, Karlsruhe 1971/06/01

The 4 Side's are exactly the same concert as the boot double LP "Sukrat" and the double LP "The Palms" which are said to be from the London concert . But many ELP collectors say they are from the Karlrushe concert.

Side 5 - 6 clearly they are from a 1972 concert that is unknown but ive been told could possiblly be from
1972-06-07 Hamburg
