The Ross Tapes: Tape 2

SBD recordings > unknown transfer > CDR > eac > wav > Flac

"Ross was known for low gen newly circulated genuine Jimi studio jams and concerts.
The songs on most of his stuff are at the right speed, it sure sounds clean, neat n complete.
These pre-date DAT tape too.
Anyway, Ross made a final offer one summer by providing an 11 tape series of all his studio stuff.
My friend took #2, 3, 6, & 7. Shortly after buying these tapes Ross generally dissappeared from the scene.
These torrents are right off the raw cassettes, no altering at all."

Sound Quality:
Good audience. This recording is very good for an audience recording from 1984. All the frequencies are quite audible, as well as the bass and the high sounds. The audience reactions are well heard but it's not irritating. The music tops the audience.

Comments:
This is a very "rare" bootleg. To my knowledge only 25 were printed. The discs are gold colored, which could indicate that they are made on private CD-Rs. The disc printing is very plain; only black letters giving the name of the bootleg and the source. The back of the bootleg says it is made in Milano (Italy) but when I bought it the shop owner said that the distribution was only in the Netherlands. This bootleg came together with the Amsterdam 1989 show (also 25 copies). The cover is nice but single-sheeted. The back has the same background. Two pictures shot by Anton Corbijn during the The Unforgettable Fire photo session make the artwork worthwhile. The show is strong and solid. The audience sing along very well. With only 90 minutes of disc space used, the bootleg could have been filled with another recording, but this is not done. This is the original pressing on this label.

Stevie Ray Vaughan - 1984-03-19 - Honolulu, Hawaii (DVDfull pro-shot)

(DVDfull pro-shot)

with Jimmy Vaughan and Jeff Beck
CBS Record Convention
Approx 45 minutes

A 15+ year old Maxell VHS tape Played on a Sony Hi-Fi VHS player inputted into a Pioneer DVR 520-H stand alone DVDR burner to create this DVD.

A Hitwitstuff2 Video Excavation upload!

I bought this tape mail order from someone I probably found in Gold Mine Magazine back in the way back when.

I have no idea if this is rare especially in this quality, picture-wise, which is pretty good but there are some nasty edits and the sound suffers from some very trebly high end especially in the beginning.
Its mostly a single pro camera with a sometimes hissy soundboard feed. The camera is hand held for the most part and is sometimes even set down on its side mid-song, but mostly is catching some friggen great shots. This camera is on stage being carried around.

(sits into the end of) Couldn't Stand the Weather
Cold Shot w/ Jimmie Vaughan
Things That I Used to Do w/ Jimmie Vaughan
You Were Wrong w/ Jimmie Vaughan and Angela Strehli
Lonely Teardrops w/ Jimmie Vaughan and Angela Strehli
edit then color bars and audio then after a couple of minutes, the video returns for the rest of:
Third Stone from the Sun
-encore with a lot of crowd noise then Stevie introduces Jeff Beck.
Wham w/ Jimmie Vaughan and Jeff Beck
Last Call (Hawaiian Eye) w/ Jimmie Vaughan and Jeff Beck
Don't Fall for me Baby w/ Jimmie Vaughan, Jeff Beck and Angela Strehli (lots of shitty edits)
Jeff's Boogie w/ Jeff Beck
Stevie says goodnight and that he really enjoyed playing for ya!

Remaster Notes:
This is a great soundboard of the early banshee's. It had a few issues:
Early on the band had monitor problems:
After HKG Siouxsie asks if the audience can hear them, because she can't.
Then states that jet lag can't be that bad!
After "skin: a request goes out to the soundman:"less 400hz on the bass drum", to add insult to injury the next sentence asks the crowd to stop throwing "shit" on the stage.
They carry on even near the end after HH comes: "tell us when the hours up, we're in a hurry to go!!"

The whole gig is bass heavy at the expense of the guitars & vocals mainly, but also the drums needed livening up. Took a far bit of work to get the bass under control. Then to bring the drums & guitars up. The songs had a "swoosh" noise to them. Now I know they use flanger/phaser & chorus pedals but this wasn't that, I think it was a tape problem mainly, think I just about cured it. Mostly gone from the guitars, some remains on the hi hat & cymbals, but not to bad. Once all that was done I then needed to boost the vocals up, sound sweet now. I retracked the show completely adding additional tracks. The only thing that remains an issue is the tape hiss. To get it how it is I had to push the files quite hard, the price creating hiss with it. It has noise reduction applied believe it or not, it can all be removed but the "sonic" price is way to high [I.M.O.]. It is mostly only an issue during the between song sections, the music is pretty much okay. Anyway... Think this is a great listen now, more balanced & open than before. If you like early banshee's grab this now, you lucky people!

1988-07-03 - STOCKHOLMS STADION, STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN
FM Broadcast of the first set. Audience tape of whole concert and show is filmed from the audience. 34 song set, and one of the best shows of the tour. "Downbound Train" makes its tour debut. “All That Heaven Will Allow” and “Spare Parts” have shorter intro stories than we got during the first leg of the tour. On the other hand the “You Can Look (But You Better Not Touch)” intro story is expanded almost into a song of it’s own (Don’t You Touch That Thing). The solo acoustic “Born To Run” goes without the usual spoken intro. "Adam Raised A Cain" includes "Hoochie Coochie Man" and "I'm A Man" in the outro. "Cover Me" includes "Gimme Shelter" in the outro. "Dancing In The Dark" includes "Everybody Needs Somebody To Love" and "Lookin' For A Love" in the outro. "Roulette" makes its European debut and "Quarter To Three" is performed for the first time since 1981. Radio broadcast portion released on CD "Summer Night" (Crystal Cat). The rest of the show released as "Summer Night Part 2" (Piggham). Audio recording of “Chimes Of Freedom” from this show (both with and without Bruce’s spoken intro announcing the “Human Rights Now!” Amnesty tour) was officially released on various 12” and CD EPs later that year, including the well-known Chimes Of Freedom EP.
