One of the earliest GNR dates to be released on bootleg in cd format, back in 1993 on the Hammerjack label, operating out of Italy (as usual). Booklet contains a series of pictures from the actual show (mistakenly including 2 FP pics), which is pretty rare in bootleg history. Axl goes off on Kiss, which includes the infamous 'Paul Stanley can suck my dick' quote.

Then a WAV (true lossless) file popped up and some guy made a ''remaster'' (?) from it and shared it in FLAC format with SBE's. This FLAC / tracked (with no other edition) has no SBE's and was shared for the first time by www.facebook.com/gnrbootlegs the 12th of april, 2020. In other words, this is the exact audio that popped up yesterday, but tracked and in a FLAC container.

Notes:
So. Been doing this now for 26 years almost exactly. You would think I know my shit by now and that I don’t do any rookie-mistakes? WRONG! Ok. This started out great, I was able to get VIP- tickets for the show, making sure I could stand as close to the speakers as possible by buying tickets through the fanclub in advance. Great! I wouldn’t miss this for the world! Saw GNR with Izzy in Stockholm, Sweden in 1991 and this will be as close as one can come to that. Nothing will top 1991 though, sorry. Who tours with 2 (!) albums that haven’t been released yet? Well, GNR did and it was stunning. Also Skid Row opened that show and it was my first time seeing them as well. Magic. Miss the old days sometimes, you never get those package shows anymore…

Anyway! Me and my brother came in without any hassle, and I went all the way in the back of the arena to set up my gear at the ”bajamajas” (portable bathrooms/toilets) but saw a MASSIVE que to even get into one… Panic. The bar-area had been even more expanded since my last show here in early june (Foo Fighters) so the available portable ”bajamajas” was reduced. Also
a t-shirt stand had been put right in the path of getting to them. Clever! NOT! After a good wait I finally got into one and started gearing up. Laying out the cables, connecting everything, putting the recorder in REC-mode to see all was working. But wait…. I’m missing the 3,5mm cable from the tinybox to the recorder!!!

No, no, no, no, no!!!! There’s no way to even use the expensive microphones + batterybox! Panic!!! Maybe I should just NOT record. After smelling the poo/piss inside the ”bajamaja” for a few seconds I decided to record anyway, only using the internal microphones on the SONY M10. Better to have a recording than to not have one at all I thought.

I returned from the chaos in the back and took a nice spot right in front of the right PA, there was A LOT of space available up front, since they only had toilets on the left side, and people tend to drink a lot of beer on sunny days like this, so I was almost by myself. At least I won’t get so much shouting/clapping in the recording I thought. Put the recorder in the right pocket on my shirt and waited for the show to start.

As the show ended and I got home I really didn’t think this would sound any good, at all, for all I know internal mics on a portable recorder can’t be any good, right? Well it turns out I’m wrong. Dead wrong. This sound really excellent - despite being ”just” the internal mics! I’m really pleased it turned out so good and therefore thought I’d share this with you. Turns out I’ve been right the whole time - it’s 80% about where you stand if you’re gonna get a good recording! Another 10% is experience and the last 10 is quality of the gear itself. I always say: save up some money and get decent gear right away, nobody wants to hear a crappy recording even though you have stood dead silent for 3 hours and I’m not saying I disagree now - but don’t give up: practice, practice, practice before you get your hands on the really expensive stuff (Schoeps and those brilliant detailed mics).

You STILL can make a fantastic recording out of it.

Remember: 206 (!!!) minutes of a great show with Guns n’ Roses, is equal amount of time of total silence for me…

The Not in This Lifetime Tour will return to arenas with the latest North American leg, which kicks off July 27th in St. Louis, Missouri and concludes September 8th in San Antonio. The following month, Guns N' Roses will embark on a fall trek of North American stadiums, which features several newly announced dates, including a pair of shows (October 11th and 15th) at New York City's Madison Square Garden.

Guns N’ Roses is a majestic band whose merit grows when you get close enough to actually watch the gears turn. You’ve likely heard Axl’s multi-octave wail all over radios and stereos before, but to watch him sail up out of his natural baritone, to be physically confronted by the controlled calamity of the thing, is a wonder. The Apollo set — a tireless, three-hour barrage of hits, deep cuts, and covers — opens deceptively with the cuts that lean on the lower end of Rose’s register. Like Sylvester Stallone’s Rocky, he’s giving you time to count him out. When the trademark shriek comes out, it’s shockingly sharp. Rose is a 55-year-old rock lifer celebrating 30-year-old songs, but unlike aging singers in similar situations, who take the keys of the songs down a notch to account for shrinking upper registers pinched by the passage of time, Axl hustles and nails every note.

Not in This Lifetime is a slight return of the classic ’80s Guns N’ Roses lineup. It reunites Rose, Appetite-era guitarist Slash, and bassist Duff McKagan in a band rounded out by longtime keyboard player Dizzy Reed, 2000s-era rhythm guitarist Richard Fortus, drummer Frank Ferrer, and the newest acquisition, keyboardist–tech whiz Melissa Reese. The set list trained these skills on every era of the band’s existence, from Appetite through the GNR Lies and Spaghetti Incident projects, both Use Your Illusion albums and even the latter day Guns-in-name-only LP Chinese Democracy. Guns is a band ultimately defined by the talents of the three lifers up front, but the machine only runs because every piece works in perfect concert. The spotlight’s always on OGs, but Richard Fortus backs Slash dutifully and takes mean solos whenever there’s room to shine, and Reed, Ferrer, and Reese form the powerful backbone for all the shrieking and shredding.

About said shredding: Slash is a guitar god of intimidating versatility. He nails the memorable solos in Guns classics with aplomb. He blows a coda out by triple on the pure joy of speedy fretwork. He pours everything into a killer talkbox solo. He crushes the entire Godfather theme. He duets emotively with Fortus on Pink Floyd’s “Wish You Were Here.” He plucks out the Allman Brothers’ “Melissa” on the way to GNR Lies’ “Patience.” He picks out noodly Jerry Garcia style leads on electric 12-string. He effects Soundgarden guitarist Kim Thayil’s wigged-out psychedelia on a cover of “Black Hole Sun.” (The night before the Appetite anniversary happened to be the late Chris Cornell’s birthday).

I spent a respectable chunk of the night purely gobsmacked by the virtuosity. I sent out two Snaps of Slash shredding alone in the spotlight. The set snaked out past the three-hour mark, and I felt more tired than the 50-year-olds onstage looked. Guns N’ Roses is — has always been — a project about excess and extremes. I only understood this conceptually, being about five years too young to get caught up in their maelstrom at the height of it. Throughout the third hour of the Apollo gig, the revolution of the band became clear to me. Guns was never just a bunch of crazy motherfuckers playing grimy California rock and roll. They blew hard rock wide open, melding it with the uncompromising bluntness of metal, the manic jitteriness of punk, and the broken directness of big, loud pop balladry. The three-hour, career-spanning Apollo set was a reminder of how rare and special that mixture is.

Notes:
A real energy crowd at this show, chanting loudly between songs. This show was broadcasted on Argentine radio. ‘Welcome To The Jungle’ is stopped at the middle of the song due to problems with the equipment. They get an interpreter onstage to tell the audience what's going on, and after a short while they start the song again where they left. ‘Double Talkin' Jive’ is dedicated to Argentinean cops who earlier that day had searched his suite for drugs. Matt is introduced as Matt 'I have no drugs in my room' Sorum. After ‘Don't Cry’ Slash says fans were singing that song outside their hotel that morning.
