06. Why worry
07. Your own sweet way

13. Wild theme (Local Hero) (acoustic version!)
14. The next time I'm in town
15. Nadine

This rare show was a charity concert at City Hall, Sheffield, 30th September 1996. This charity concert was for the Freshfields and The Michael Elliott Trust. There where some prize draw that was being held at the concert (top prize was a signed white Fender Stratocaster).

Unique charity concert. The audience sings very nice on Your own sweet way with Mark Knopfler saying: "You're all gonna be on the bootleg, you know that?"Just fantastic!
Another remarkable thing: Mark makes a mistake on his solo in Feel like going home. Also very rare is the acoustic version of Wild theme, never heard that before on any other performance.
Highly recommended recording.

Additional comments:
Audience recording from Ronnie Scott's, London, UK, August 1st, 1998. In my opinion this is the best of the 1998 shows. Excellent sound is an understatement! This is probably as close to a soundboard recording you can get with an audience recording in my opinion. I wrote the same about July 27 but this is perhaps even slightly better. Also great musically. A complete concert. Rare versions of The Long Highway and Wild Theme. Guest player on Mystery Train and Bewildered, the sax player Pat Crumly from the Pat Crumly Quartet and the John Critchinson Quartet etc. Remastered sound. Available on 2 CD-R.

SETLIST (2h. 20 min.):

Additional comments (http://www.oneverybootleg.nl/): DVD-Video containing the last concert from the 1.998 Tour. Filmed from the second table, so sometimes there are some heads in front of the camera, but most of it is very good. Some distortion on the bottom of the screen during the first songs, but not too bad. Great close ups from all band members. A lot of jokes and fun during this last concert. Mark introduces the song "Rope stretching", which is about lynching. Mark says: "I would like to dedicate it to our next door neighbours who have the builders in for about a year and a half...". Special guest this night was Pat Crumley on saxophone. He plays on "Mystery train" and "Bewildered". During this tour, "Wild Theme" and "The long highway" were only played a couple of times so that's pretty rare matrial. Unfortunately, the last song is cut. Apart from that, this DVD features the complete concert. Good picture and sound quality.

In 2002, Knopfler reunited Dire Straits under the banner "Mark Knopfler and Friends" for a series of four concerts in July. Four separate British charities benefited from the shows: Teenage Cancer Trust, Save the Baby, Leuka 2000, and Countryside Education Trust. As for getting Dire Straits back together for good, Knopfler told reporters at the time, "I would only do that for a charity. I'm glad I've experienced it all - I had a lot of fun with it - but I like things the way they are."

Mark Knopfler's distinctive guitar work can be heard on charity recordings of "Let It Be" (1987's single to benefit the victims of the Zeebrugge Ferry disaster), "Voices That Care" (1991, as a tribute to those serving in Operation Desert Storm), and "Knockin' On Heaven's Door (1996's recording to benefit the victims and families of the horrific school shooting in Dunblane, Scotland).

Comment Pyroman:
Very good audience recording of the second charity gig in Shepherd's Bush Empire London, on behalf of "Teenage Cancer Trust".
Fantastic show, the best of the three London gigs in my opinion!
During the first part of the show, Mark plays with The Notting Hillbillies, the second part of the show is what I have been waiting for for so many years: a reunion of dIRE sTRAITS, with John Illsley, Chris White, Guy Fletcher, and Danny Cummings together on stage again!
Special guest: Jools Holland on piano!
Truely wonderful Brothers In Arms, which really made me shiver that night.
great to hear Brendan Croker sing Feel Like Going Home again, so beautifully accompanied by Mark on his Gibson Les Paul.
Baloney Again was played instead of Your Latest Trick.
Mark also played two new songs, to be released on the new album "The Ragpicker's Dream" on 30th September 2002: Quality Shoe and Why Aye Man (with Jimmy Nail as special guest).

comment(OEB):
Good audience recording of the second of four charity gigs in July 2002.
This one is on behalf of Teenage Cancer Trust. Announced as "Mark Knopfler and friends",
Mark plays with The Notting Hillbillies in the first half of the show.
with virtually Dire Straits (including John Illsley and Chris White) in the second half.
But during the whole gig different musicians are turning up.
Jimmy Nail came on stage for backing vocals on Why aye man, Money for nothing and So far away.
Jools Holland was a special guest this night on the two absolute stunning versions of Run me down and Setting me up.
Some nice arrangements on What it is, Romeo and Juliet, and including new songs Quality shoe and Why aye man from The ragpicker's dream album which was released two months after the charity shows. Good sound quality.

Enlight comment:
This is a very good quality audience film of the Notting Hillbillies at Ronnie Scott's Jazzclub ( the first 1998 night). It's shot from within the crowd so there are heads visable in the lower part of the screen, but absolutely not disturbing!! Great clear view on Mark and his guitar-neck and the way he plays them, if you don't know some of the song-chords you can "read" them > for guitar players it's almost a free Guitar workshop/lesson!

But also great to see Mark's expression on his face during playing , singing and talking, this all beceause of the great video-sharpness off this recording. Maybe a little minor is that Mark is filmed most off the time, to avoid camera - blackout by filming heads and peoples backs on the left and right front tables , but at the "right" moments the other members are filmed by zooming out or in when can.

A lot off jokes between the boy's ! A great relaxed performance!

Very rare version of I'm the fool which they only played at this concert on the tour!

comment J.V.Tol:
This is the first CD from this TV show with the best sounding versions.
The sound is excellent and there are some really wonderful songs here like When it comes to you, Water of love, Your own sweet way, etc.
All songs are taken from the best sounding bootleg, "Bijou", but Water of love is taken from "A friendly funny night" as it was not included in "Bijou".
All songs have been remastered (for example speed correction)
Three songs have been added; "One woman man", "Railroad worksong" and "Dallas rag" which were only broadcasted on TV and never bootlegged!!!
plus the interview before the show.
Great one to have in the collection!

Comments Pyroman:
Very nice Notting Hillbillies concert.
Perfect sound - better than other bootleg from the same day "Live in London" - and great setlist.
When It Comes To You was already played here, before the release of "On Every Street" .
A fantastic "I Think I Love You Too Much" was performed even before the famous 'Knebworth Festival", where this never officially recorded song was played for the first time by Dire Straits, together with Eric Clapton.
Water Of Love is also very nice in NHB version.
Great bootleg!

Enlight note:
Also known and labeled as: The Notting Hillbillies - Having A Good Time - SNAPE 1990 (but notice the improvement and extra tracks on this real deal, there are some mix ups) Very good sound and great performance.
Dire Straits played "i think i love you too much", for the first time at the Knebworth Festival and later during the beginning of the OES-tour, Great to have this stunning version before it was played by the Straits.
Jeff Heally recorded this song with Mark, and released it on his album "Hell To Pay"( it became a great recording), unfortunally On March 2, 2008, Jeff Healey died of cancer(age 41).

Another great version of "Hobo's Lullaby" with some breath-taking short guitar licks by Mark during the verse and chorus , and a great outro solo.
(this also gives me the opportunity to rectify my info on the NHB-GLASGOW 90 upload **) that ,"Hobo's Lullaby" was the only soundboard version , i was mistaken, here another wonderful soundboard version)

The guitar solo on Feel Like Going Home is amazing!!!

comment:
Made by the RCJS team. This is the only proshot concert from The Notting Hillbillies so far. And what a great one. First of all, the footage in the documentary is great: interviews, rehearsals. Guy Fletcher telling how he joined the Hillbillies, the world premier for 'When it comes to you', etc. The show itself is great. Mark Knopfler is brilliant playing the guitar. You can see Ed Bicknell (the old Dire Straits manager) playing drums and a special guest: Paul Franklin ('the best pedal steel guitar in the world') who a year later will join Dire Straits for their last tour.

Notes:
Great soundboard recording, taken from 'Radio Clyde'. Excellent 50 minutes stereo recording with great versions! As a bonus, a nice recording is added, taken from BBC Radio 2. This part lasts 22 minutes and includes interviews with facts about the album, the band, the tour and acoustic songs. Very interesting CD, highly recommendable!
