While this has become a popular bootleg over the years, and songs have been plucked from it several times for official releases, this is the first time this source has ever seen circulation.

Broadcast and taped by me from the WLIR Tuesday Night concert series. The only information they gave that night was ‘recorded during the British tour, 1985, but thanks to the internet, I was able to establish the correct date and venue.

According to the “Passions Just Like Mine” Smiths page, all known broadcasts feature an alternate “You’ve Got Everything Now” from a different, unknown date, even though the song was in the setlist this night, and was played in the order listed...I’ll go with the site for that info...He’s seems to have his info tight...

Also according to the page, “How Soon is Now” is edited by 1 minute on all the broadcasts...though I don’t really hear it, I’ll go with the site on that as well...

Aside from the unfortunate tape flip, and the first :30 secs of the tape where the DOLBY button was pushed in, the rest of the tape is pretty flawless. Perhaps it will be just another copy you have of this popular bootleg, perhaps it will upgrade an old copy, perhaps you’ve never heard it before...whatever the case may be...

I really don't know much about this video but it doesn't appear to be up here so I thought people may be interested. I picked up the DVD on Bleeker Street in New York City. It has a soundboard audio source and was apparently a TV broadcast. The songs are tracked and there is a menu. The intro to Handsome Devil is cut. I'm including the original artwork. There are video edits that remind me of the 80's in all it's cheesy glory. If you're a Smiths fan you'll want it. If you're a Moz fan, hey, he sticks his tongue out and exposes a nipple or two.

To put an end to a very busy year, the Smiths returned to Paris for a one-off concert. This is often credited as having taken place in the Parisian suburb of Versailles, but the venue was actually a hall at the Parc Des Expositions, near the Porte de Versailles in the south of Paris. The setlist was similar to the ones from the recent Irish dates, minus "Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want" and "Jeane". All five then-unreleased songs that would appear two months later on "Meat Is Murder" as well as recent single tracks "William, It Was Really Nothing", "How Soon Is Now?" and "Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now" were performed.

The concert went down well, but perhaps because the Smiths were not as known in France as in the UK, the audience took some time to warm up to the band. After the opener "William, It Was Really Nothing", Morrissey greeted the crowd "Thank you we are the Smiths and we come from England... what?". He wasn't as talkative in France as he was in England or Ireland, probably because of the language barrier. At the end of "Nowhere Fast" he lied on the floor to illustrate the song's final line "I'd lie down and die". The next song on the programme was then introduced "Thank you, this is a song called 'Reel Around The Fountain'."

After "Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now", Morrissey thanked the audience and introduced the next song: "Thank you... thank you, you're very kind, thank you... This is a song called 'How Soon Is Now'." Near the end of "Still Ill" he fell on the floor and writhed. The following song was then introduced "This is a new song which you don't know, it's called 'Rusholme Ruffians'." It segued into "This Charming Man" the way it always did since its live inception in September. This was to be the last of the few times this medley was performed.

During the bass solo at the end of "Barbarism Begins At Home" Johnny, who had nothing to do, pretended to yawn and started dancing along while Morrissey was 'oscillating wildly' near him, arm flying everywhere. Near the end of a very spirited "Hand In Glove", Morrissey removed his shirt gradually, swung it around for a short while then threw it in the crowd. He said "Goodbye... thank you... we love you..." and the Smiths left stage. They were soon called back and Morrissey thanked the audience "Thank you France, we didn't expect this, thank you". The first encore consisted of a playful "What Difference Does It Make?" with added "Ba-bada-bada" and "Handsome Devil". The band was then asked to do a second encore, and they went for "Miserable Lie" after thanking the French again for their welcome: "What could we say? Thank you..."

This concert was recorded and broadcast on television.
The image quality is good, but this was filmed from one main angle and very few variations. There is also a lot of annoying video effects that can't really be blamed on the fact that it was the 1980s. It is only one of two visual documents for the Smiths in 1984 so despite all this, still very interesting to watch on bootleg video or DVD.

This is about the best live video of The Smiths you will find. It is a pro-shot live gig for the German show Rockpalast. It's 1984, so there are no Queen Is Dead era songs, but it's still a fantastic track list.

Several versions of this gig have already been made available, but this is the complete unedited gig in the correct order without subtitles. It also includes backstage footage and a small introduction from Alan Bangs.

I promised I wouldn't disclose the source of this, hence the [undisclosed] in the lineage line above. The quality should speak for itself. The source is PAL and it has remained in PAL.

The picture had a flickering white line slightly outside of frame, so I cropped it very slightly then wrapped a simple DVD menu around the footage. In the process I accidentally converted the audio from AC3 256kbps to PCM 1536kbps which makes for bigger files but will not affect sound quality.

Mention “country rock” and most people will mention the Eagles. Those into country rock will likely remember The Ozark Mountain Daredevils for their hits, Jackie Blue and If You Wanna Get To Heaven. Jackie Blue, with its smooth vocals a-la Curtis Mayfield is not your typical country rock song
but then fans of the group will probably tell you that the Daredevils, from Springfield, Missouri, are not your typical country rock band. Take Better Days, for instance. The song may have a funky beat but that didn’t stop the band from taking an extended jazzy excursion with the flute.

A customer posted at amazon.com: “The Daredevils manage to mix the traditional sounds from the hills and hollows of the Ozarks with R&B, ’70s rock, and you name it… The Daredevils always managed to jump back and forth from the pure rural “hillbilly” sound to any number of directions.”

13 Millions Dollars > Outro

To the best of my knowledge this is the first appearance of this set here, in fact, I could find no info at all on Triumvirat's performance as part of WLIR's Tuesday night concert series.

I discovered this in a batch of tapes a friend shipped me that came from a former LA radio DJ.

The tape was simply labeled 'Triumvirat Live/Ultra' on the outside which didn't give me much in the way of identifying the show or date.
There were some clues in the contents, recorded live in front of a studio audience made me think Ultrasonic Studios but an internet search turned up not a mention of Triumvirat as part of the concert series. The intro gave me no specific clues except a familiar voice introducing the band but the outro was the motherlode. During the outro it is mentioned the band would be playing the Academy of Music on saturday night, we have a bootleg of this performance from the date of October 5th. It's also mentioned Fleetwood Mac, Triumvirat's touring partner, would be appearing in studio for next Tuesday night's show which they did on October 8th.

The tape had some issues, the right channel of Side A of the tape was full of problems, major volume fluctuations, low volume that when increased created a massive amount of hiss to serious drop outs. After working on fixes I decided the best fix, and most pleasing to the ear was to copy the left channel to the right channel. Side B was in much better shape with some simple volume fluctuations that were easily repaired and smoothed, no channel patch needed.

The musical contents are nothing short of brilliant, 'Illusions On A Double Dimple' played in it's entirety in FM quality with all the wonderful improv and musicianship that comes with a Triumvirat performance, which unfortunately, there are precious few available. If I'm not mistaken the few 1974 performances available are audience recordings and I believe this will be a very welcome addition.
