Here are the EAGLES feeling their way through a batch of new songs.
Destined to be their most popular release "Hotel California" can now be heard as it was being born.
These sessions catch the band working out the details of the songs soon to be some of their biggest hits.

The album was recorded between March and October 1976 at Criteria Studios in Miami, Florida and also at the Record Plant Studios in Los Angeles, California.
Although the band favored Los Angeles, the producer Bill Szymczyk wanted to record in Miami as he had developed a fear of living on a fault line in Los Angeles after experiencing an earthquake.
A compromise was then struck to split the recording at both places
It was their first album with guitarist Joe Walsh, who had replaced founding member Bernie Leadon, and is the last album to feature bassist Randy Meisner. Asylum released the album in December and it went straight to # 1.

Updated information places tracks 8-12 from the 1974-1975 sessions for "One Of These Nights"

No date or location was noted on the DAT for these sessions but my guess is this was from the Record Plant. Similarly there is no date or location noted for the live track. Maybe more information will surface in the future.

Not much done to the DAT transfer,
Removed a 60 HZ hum (with 3 harmonics) and corrected a DC offset.
Trimmed the excess dead air between tracks and removed some electrical noises (ticks, clicks and pops). The amplitude of the live track was reduced to better match the "loudness" with the studio material.

Notes by the uploader/trader:
it's a SBD recording but not a great one. There is alot of tape hiss due to the high generation. But since there is very little early Pie this show is a favorite of mine. The story goes on this one that it was recorded by the Dutch Radio Station VPRO during a festival like concert that included Deep Purple and Brian Auger's Trinity and several other bands. All the bands were recorded but the show was never broadcast as a complete concert in any way just as individual songs. According to The Highway Star, Deep Purple's Website, the radio station still has the original tapes and was going to release them on there own label but they never did. So if anybody that works at VPRO is reading this, please due me and everyone else a favor, make a copy of this from the Master Reel and post it somewhere for all to have instead of letting it sit and rot somewhere where no one gets to listen to it.

Label: Nifty, Tough & Bitchen Records NTB 8600

A deluxe-type 10-LP retrospective box. Here are the 10 records:

1. Pigs & Repugnant
2. Son of Pigs & Repugnant
3. Beyond the Fringe of Audience Comprehension
4. Zut Alors
5. The Rondo Hatton Band
6. A Token of His Extreme
7. Chalk Pie
8. Crush All Boxes
9. Return of the Son of Serious Music
10. Randomonium

All the records have been sold separately and have been given autonomous entries.
In the book BOOTLEG by Clinton Heylin, the bootlegger behind this box is identified as "Richard", and "Next to the Beatles, his great love was the cantankerous Frank Zappa". "Richard in his time was to be responsible for one ten-album set, one four-album set and ten single albums [of Zappa], including the legendary 'Tis the Season to be Jelly". (The ten-album set, of course, is this Mystery Box, but the other albums are never identified.) He is quoted (on page 195) as saying:

Mystery Box notes:
My vinyl rip of The Mystery Box (NT&B 8603-8612)

vinyl>rega planer2 turntable/shure cartridge>gennexa mixer>SB Audigy soundcard>rec. w/Adobe Audition 1.5>edit Sound Forge 4.5>flac level 8 conversion>you

Tested for sbe's. Re-tracked to what I think makes sense and only some minor editing of the more egregious snap, crackle, pop of the vinyl. Records are in pretty good shape actually.
I've revised the Dates & Locations from the notes on the back of the box. Perhaps not 100% accurate but more so.

There were two stages at Woodstock '94. "Soul Sacrifice" thru "Get it in Your Soul" were recorded from the live cable feed (which then cut to the start of Bob Dylan's performance on the North Stage). During the overnights they broadcast highlights from the previous day's broadcast along with selections of the performances that hadn't gone out live. This is the source for the remainder of the DVD. The missing tunes weren't broadcast on either.

As a music lover and collector I wish they'd done more to provide greater coverage of the missing performances during the overnights. That being said, I think they did a fine job of capturing the action on the two stages and in the audience on-the-fly during the festival.
