While this is a mighty fine set on its own (two sets, actually!), I guess that at this point in rock history reconsideration it's better known as "that time Badfinger 'closed' for Big Star's still-officially-unreleased mighty bitchen March '74 show in Cambridge" (http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=188420). Which is fine. Some clown wrote in Uncut (a magazine I otherwise like a lot) that Big Star had "as many hits as they deserved" — that guy's gonna get bitch-slapped by ME real effin' quick. But I digress! The thing is this double Badfinger show deserves to be on the tracker again, so here it is, with minimal Manimal modifications:
- Added pdf artwork created by a Dime member back in 2008, I believe (thanks!)
- Added tags, including "digital artwork" taken from the aforementioned pdf
- Changed filenames
- Created new ffp and md5 files

In my opinion, this is one of the best audience recordings of the original Lynyrd Skynyrd band. We're talkin' about 1974! And there aren't many live shows circulating with the Pronounced and Second Helping lineup, with Ed King and Bob Burns... The band did an encore that night, Crossroads, surely one of the first times they played that song, that was recorded for the live album, One More From The Road.

Comments:
Solid performance by veteran rocker Bob Seger in the Chicago stop of his current tour. I had never seen him before, and I must say that I was impressed with his showmanship and the quality of his vocals. Although he certainly *looked* his 68 years of age, his voice sounded exactly like he did in his late 1970s/early 1980s heyday.
The setlist was a hit factory, with virtually everything drawn from the early 1970s with a sprinkling of his '80s hits and a handful of current tunes. He introduced "Like a Rock," for audience members who were less than 26 years old, as a song he hadn't performed live during their lifetimes; I'm not sure if this was a tour debut, but it sounded great and inspired me to go out and buy a Chevy truck. A highlight, for me, was the cover of Wilco & Billy Bragg's "California Stars" -- though interestingly enough, he didn't seem to be aware that a local band was involved in the recording (he alluded to the fact that the lyrics were written by Woody Guthrie, but didn't reference Wilco at all). He does a credible version of the song, though I prefer the "original" version by Wilco.
In terms of sound quality, I was a little too close to the stage to catch the full effect of the overhead PA, and needed to improve upon the high and low ends using Audio Cleaning Lab. Overall, this is a very clear recording but lacking "punch"; I was fortunate in that there wasn't any crowd interference close to my mics, but there were a couple guys nearby chatting throughout the show that can be heard in the background at quieter points of the show. Overall, this is a very listenable, enjoyable recording, but I'm sure there will be better documents that surface eventually from this tour.
Download if you're even a casual fan who's curious about the current tour, and don't forget to buy his studio and live releases.
There are no fades on this file set, so the CD breaks (for those who still burn to CD) are merely a suggestion - you can split discs wherever you want.

Notes:
The first show of the tour...and in three years...and it was awesome. The whole band had high energy throughout and genuinely seemed happy to be there. The crowd around me was for the most part pretty well behaved other than one woman behind me who wouldn't shut up. Fortunately she kept leaving and spent better than half the show absent. In my opinion this is a decent sounding recording... unfortunately there is one glitch. A passerby (beer run) ran into me and unplugged my mic cable during I'm So Afraid at the 2'16 mark and it stopped recording. I caught it quickly though and only a few seconds are missing.

notes:
it comes from a VERY clean triple vinyl produced High Life Rec. 51, Carthorpe St., London. the sound is practically perfect. the audience is very warm singing here and there, the performance is very nice and quite 'exhilarating' considering the weather condition: rain. (the crowd yells ‘no rain – no rain’ at the beginning of Comfortably Numb and an Italian guy yells ‘non piovere str****!’ before Run Like Hell that is more or less ‘do not rain ****’ ... well use your imagination ...) unfortunately the recording (or just this RoIO) is not complete it's missing: Yet another movie, A new machine (pt. 1),Terminal frost, A new machine (pt. 2).

Show notes:
Early Popmart show. Starting to pull things together, but still some mess-ups during the show. Staring at the Sun takes a while to come together, Bono turns into a major a*****e during Miami, and the band forgets how to end With or Without You. I get the feeling they couldn't wait to end the show by the end. Nice little soundcheck bonus, with some full songs and warm-ups.
Recording/remaster notes:
Soundcheck was a pretty solid standard Edge feed. Did the usual basic eq/reverb/etc. No static cleanup needed. The show had a decent amount of static and rf noise, especially in the second half of the show. The most interesting version of with or Without You I've heard was unfortunately striken with a good amount of static. Did the best I could to clean it up, but you'll probably notice some glitches. The feed is from the crew feed, so you'll notice crew talk and instruments/vocals switching in the feed.
Extra notes:
This recording was stolen way back in the day in the infamous shower heist, and slowly was traded out from there. A while back it (and later the soundcheck) was torrented, but it ran slow and sounded bad. I'm unsure if it was intentionally traded with the speed/sound issues to preserve its "trade value" (as was done by these lovely thieving traders by some of the European Pop IEMs), or if the source was just a multi-gen analog tape. In either case, this is from a much better source and cleaned up. Enjoy y'all.

Notes:
For this show I tried out a pair of CSC Mics I had purchased but am on the fence when it comes to using them again because the sound came out sort of thin compared to what I actually heard during the show. The IEM feed is well balanced favoring Stevie's vocals and the backup guitar player and singers but when mixed with the AUD it really helps fill out the sound. There are a small minor hiccups during the show where there were a couple pops in the iem feed and I tried to edit them out as much as possible but they are still there.
