Duran Duran - 1994 - Demo's Thank You (STU/FLAC)

(Studio FLAC)

Info below is from Duran Duran Wiki: http://duranduran.wikia.com/wiki/With_Love_And_Thanks

With Love And Thanks is an unofficial Duran Duran compilation album, recorded between 1992 and 1995.

This is a collection of Duran Duran Thank You demos and live promotional performances.

"White Lines"
There are three versions of "White Lines" on the album, including a performance by Duran Duran on the US David Letterman Show. According to the Duran Duran Rare CD Guide site, the band were told at the last minute to cut down the song due to time constraints.

"Ball of Confusion"
The track is an uncensored version, with the lyrics "Politicians..Can You xxxxxxx believe them?"

"Perfect Day"
Track 3 is a recording very similar to the album version, but includes John Taylor singing backing vocals. The second version of "Perfect Day" and "Crystal Ship" (Acoustic) are from Simon Mayo's BBC Radio 1 breakfast show, aired in the UK. This performance on the Simon Mayo show also included an acoustic live version of "Ordinary World", which was released on the "White Lines" single CD and "Lay Lady Lay" Italian single.

"Thank You"
This is not the With Honors demo version, but a completely different recording.

"Plastic Girl"
The track is a live recording of Duran Duran's performance on the MTV Most Wanted show.

Bonus tracks:
"Dreamboy" and "Electric Barbarella" are not Thank You songs. "Dreamboy" is a Simon Le Bon solo song, recorded live at the Cannes Film Festival. The "Electric Barbarella" track 16 is a recording of a radio performance, and the Plastic Kiss Acoustic Mix is a re-edit of track 16.

Comments:
This is the BEST bootleg/release/source of the 2nd Fort Worth show of 1972.....apart from the couple of tracks that's a part of the "Ladies & Gentlemen"-soundtrack.

The VGP release "Fort Worth Express" is taken from the same source of this SBD tape as this C2C release.....but from a HIGHER generation.....or something
- because it sounds much worse !
Halcyon (a sub-label of Empress Valley) has released some excellent bootlegs....but even their release of this SBD tape ("Return Of The Exiles") is NOT as good as the C2C release (IMO)....at all - allthough better than VGP

The legend Dieter Hoffman once wrote (about this SBD tape):
"listen to the piano on the beginning of "Gimme Shelter" and you know that this one is....A MUST!!!"
.....and how correct he were!

ARTWORK:
Artwork included....scanned today (the ones I found on the web were in useless resolution)

BY THE WAY:
The "Happy" on the VGP release ("Fort Worth Express") is taken from the 1st show in Fort Worth....not the 2nd show. ("All Down The Line" is not either a part of this soundboard tape)

Remaster of recorder1 version called "Detroit 1975", (NOT CSP remaster). The 1st gen versions of this recorder have quite strong SQ but had numerous issues that needed attention. I liked the performance of this show and felt it deserved the attention.

Approximately 4 mins of repeated segments at the ending and beginning of many tracks. Many digi-pops, clicks, mic thumps and some tape flips etc. Also a high frequency buzz that was prominent in about half the recording along with suttle level and SQ changes throughout.

I was able to get many good isolated buzz samples to address the segments that contained background buzz. A diminished buzz is now prevalent only during quiet sections, eg Speak To Me, Us and Them. No NR used on buzz free segments. There are no traces of NR.

Eliminated or reduced most of the digi-pops/clicks and mic thumps and smoothed tape flips.

Also segmented the show into several dozen relavent sections in order to apply different amounts of EQ, output levels, and buzz reduction. Kept Dark Side Of The Moon together on Disc 2. Created artwork with track listing and times.

Although, as usual, it took much longer than I originally thought, IMO it was worth it. It has good editing, output level, and SQ continuity now and sounds clearer and warmer than "Experimental Energy"

Notes:
Back in the late 1970s, Capital Radio in London used to broadcast a great evening radio show (hosted by 'little' Nicky Horne) called "Your mother wouldn't like it". Aside from broadcasting great music, Capital occasionally broadcast live concerts too.

Towards the end of the 1977 tour, Genesis returned to the UK for three sold out nights at the Earl's Court Arena in London and the second night was broadcast live by Capital. I recall that Nicky had interviewed Genesis several times and unlike previous live broadcasts, the program running time was specially extended to accommodate this concert.

This BURP version is a re-master of the "Before Riches" boot (Silver Rarities SIRA 124/125). This is a nice recording (though regrettably not the best from this tour). If you like the set-list, but want a great recording of this tour then I'd suggest Zurich Re-Visited (although that recording misses the shortened version of The Knife included here).

I love these 1980 shows. This one is early enough in the Heaven and Hell tour that Bill Ward is still behind the drums and he gives a great solo here on Sweet Leaf. Great show overall, nice performance of Lonely Is The Word in particular. Sent to me as a "low gen" but who knows what that means. A bit of a rarity at one point, did not generally circulate until years after the gig I believe.
