Notes by the taper:
This was my second time seeing Neil Young (would've been my third if I hadn't skipped him at Outside Lands back in 2012 - stupid decision, I know). Anyway, I really enjoy this festival. It's chill, laid back, and thankfully this year they fixed the whole ordeal with people with their chairs/blankets/towels/etc taking up space in front of the stage (they moved them to the back AND enforced the real). That left plently of space in front of the stage to move up and claim spots for all the different sets (impossible last year). Last year, at the innaugural festival, Lukas Nelson and the Promise of the Real had performed and later that night I had told my friend that I'd bet anything that Neil Young and Promises of the Real come back and headline next year, and voila! Look who's at the top of the poster! I couldn't have been happier. Neil's set at Desert Trip back in 2016 (weekend 2) is one of my favorites of all time, and I've been itching to see him again. And he sure didn't disappoint.

I worked my way up to the soundboard rail after Jack White ended and got a nice comfy spot, and there weren't many talkers around me. I think the two dudes to my left were updating Setlist.fm as the show went on, so I was surrounded by some diehards to say the least, but thankfully no loud screamers (go read my notes for the Neil Young Desert Trip set - you'll see what I mean). The band was on point tonight and played almost everything I was hoping to hear at a festival, including "Fuckin' Up", "Powderfinger" and "Ohio"! I was so excited when I first heard the notes to Ohio...I had listen to his greatest hits on vinyl that morning to get ready for this night, and I was hoping to the good lord that he would play that, and sure enough he did (and more). A few other highlights included the Particle Kid cover "Everything is Bullshit", such an awesome jam. It was a beautiful night and a beautiful hard-rocking set. I encourage everyone to download this, crank it, enjoy it and share it.

approx 37.54 to 38.12 during Railroad and again approx 1.10.50 to 1.11.17 during Roadhouse Blues.
Rossi's banter after Oh Baby is cut and the following 4500 Times cuts in rather abruptly.
On occasion annoying voices can be heard but the spirit and dignity of the gig is definitely intact.

Total Time: 83:34

Notes:
This is a an EX quality master cassette transfer of the soundboard of this show. The soundboard is in low circulation from what I understand. The transfer was done with a standalone CDR burner. This was split up on 2 CDR's ending with half of "Lightning Strikes" on 1 CD and beginning with the other half of that song on the second CD with a slight cut in between. The tracking was very sloppy with only 4 or 5 tracks on each disc. I ripped with EAC as two big WAV files, combined them and did some minimal editing to splice Lightning Strikes. There is a slight cut around 3:55 of that song. Then I split the big WAV file with CDWave and at the same time converted to FLAC. The whole thing is now a continuous 83:34 except for that very minor cut in Lightning Strikes. Spread over 2 CD's however you wish for personal use but please keep the FLAC set as is.
While this is not the original lineup, you wouldn't know it by the way Crespo and Dufay play. They are more than capable of stepping in the shoes of Whitford and Perry. The best part of the show is when some fan threw something on stage during "Lord of the Thighs" and Tyler calls him up on stage and, mocking him, asks him to sing. Overall it's a very nice listen, and this being a master transfer I'd recommend this even for a casual fan.
FFP file and shntool results included for easy checking. Regrettably I don't have any EAC logs for you, not that it'd show you much because the tracks were all different anyway.

Kate Bush - Alone At My Piano (STU/FLAC)

(studio FLAC)

Alone At My Piano (Ukinel Records NY 1988)
modestly remastered & expanded

The 22 demos which Kate Bush recorded all by herself & her piano in November of 1976 can be found, as a whole or in part, on a number of bootleg CDs. The most common ones are "Cathy's Home Demos", "Practice Makes Perfect (Piano Demos No 1)", "If You Could See Me Fly", and "Passing Through Air". The order of the songs varies across those discs, the pauses between songs have been edited out and all of those bootlegs appear to be taken from a vinyl source. The sole exception that I know of is "Alone At My Piano", which presents an (almost completely) uninterrupted recording of all those demos, with inbetween-song pauses & noises intact, taken from a tape source (be it several generations removed from the master cassette).

What ALL those bootleg CDs have in common is that they play dreadfully slow, turning the singer into "a child with a woman in her voice" rather than the true musical prodigy Cathy was at the tender age of 18. That's why I have sped up the recording found on "Alone At My Piano" by about 5.4 %, which more or less restores the original tone & pitch of the cassette recording. What I didn't do is remove the hiss that is clearly present in the copy used for the bootleg (hence the "modest" remastering). We will never be able to get back into that room anyway, alone with Kate at her piano, so I thought it best to leave well alone. This is priceless stuff nonetheless... music in its purest form, methinks.

As for the "expanded" bit: I have added six tracks which can be found on the "Cathy's Home Demos" bootleg. They are two further solo demos from 1980 of "Babooshka" (the first with Kate alone on the piano & some vocal overdubs, the second with Kate at the piano & a rhythm box and vocal + musical overdubs) and five demos with band from 1977, the so-called "Kick Inside" demos. All those clearly derive from a vinyl source; I have removed the worst clicks & pops with the pen tool in SoundForge, but I did not remove the last bit of surface noise as, again, I didn't want to compromise the sound in any way by using a generic restoration tool.

Those wishing to read up on these wonderful piano demos from (November?) 1976 can have a field day on the following web pages:

re: the tracklist. The song titles of the 1976 demos are a moot point, as most of those songs have never been released officially. That's why these songs can be found with different titles on different bootlegs. What you find here are, first, what may well be the true original titles, followed by the various alternatives found for the songs in question on different bootlegs.

The 1976 demos
01. The Kick Inside aka Brother
02. Hammer Horror
03. It Hurts Me aka Feeling Like a Waltz aka A Rose Growing Old

Enlight note:
nice sound quality for a 1983 show.
It was the only Irish gig of that tour.
Mark and band in a good mood.
great versions of Industrial disease and Romeo and Juliet.

The always very nice Irish crowd singing along with most songs ( not in a worrisome way), nice to hear the interaction between Mark and the audience during the intro of Portobelle Belle. Fun to hear the audience reaction to the "Irish reggae" part of this song>and as always a great guitar-Sax duet between Mark and Mel
