Lineage: flac files from another trade, generation unknown - speed correction and glitch fixing with Sound Forge - flac files.

Here is a speed corrected version of a classic Deep Purple Mk II show featuring very early versions of Highway Star und Lazy, two months before they were recorded for the Machine Head album.

I received the orginal files a few years ago from another torrent tracker. I corrected the speed for the last four tracks (the others were running properly) and added the missing last minute of Lazy from a CDR I've got a few years earlier labelled 'Surprising Concert'.

Yes, it is debatable whether it's useful to complete a recording with a snippet of another version. However, both recordings come from the same source though sounding differently, so I think it makes sense in this case. But therefore I won't call this upload something like a 'definite version'. It's the best I could make of the material I have. I hope that some day the master tape will turn up, then we'll get a definite version.

Besides speed correcting and fixing a few glitches I didn't do any sound editing. I included the 'Surprising Concert' artwork, sadly I don't have it in high resolution.

The cover claims it is Kassel, and after "Smoke On The Water" Ian Gillan says thanks to Kassel, but this is obviously added afterwards. Some fans say it's not Kassel, but Hamburg, because they compared it to the audience boots of these concerts. So decide youself. Anyway it's a great recording. Curiously, the first 4 Songs have a muffled sound, as for the Turin-show. I don't know why this happens. The rest is very good.

One of the best Lord's live performance from this era! One of my favorite Gillan performance too! The whole band is simply amazing! This is pro shot so there are numerous camera angles. The huge crowd is really enjoying themselves. The guitar vs. organ duel in Speed King is amazing.

Considered to be the best sounding Paradiso boot, This is considered to be one of the essential DP boots, as it's the earliest known MkII performance in existence.Ritchie's Blues is infinitely better than Crash Landing. It's a superb look at early MKII, and surprisingly clear considering the age of the recording. Mandrake Root is cut shortly into Lord's solo and fades out, but other than that it's a fantastic show. Kneel And Pray shows the band had a fairly clear vision of what they wanted Speed King to sound like from the beginning. A little fine tuning on the lyrics and a tightening of the arrangement and a year later it appeared on In Rock in all it's manic glory. It's kind of odd hearing the band play a blistering set and not hear any audience response though. Gillan makes reference to the nice smell coming from the audience, so apparently the crowd was pleasantly sedated.
