Pink Floyd - 1979 - Off The Wall-Promo (STU/SHN)

(Studio SHN)

Pink FLoyd
Off the Wall
Promo only "White Label" LP release from 1979.

These shn's were generously provided to me by Digital Reproductions

Media: 1 CD
Record Label: Columbia Records
Catalog Number: AS 736
Release Information: Promo only "White Label" LP release from 1979.
Source: LP
Quality: EX

01 - Another Brick in the Wall (part 2) (edit) 3:18
02 - Goodbye Blue Sky 2:26
03 - Young Lust (alternate mix) 3:29
04 - One of My Turns 3:35
05 - Hey You 4:38
06 - Nobody Home 3:33
07 - Comfortably Numb 6:21
08 - Run Like Hell (alternate mix) 4:42

Who1Zep:
"I noticed two special versions that I do not know to be available on any other Floyd official or bootleg release. Young Lust had the special outro, without the phone call overdub. That's what I bought it for. (Incidentally, Comfortably Numb did not have the blip in the first second of the song, which is present on my regular Columbia vinyl release, the original Harvest CD and remastered Columbia CD.) The other special version is Run Like Hell, which I cannot recall ever hearing before. The overdubs were not present in either the intro or outro. Hearing Gilmour's guitar intro by itself was awesome. That is coolest short guitar part Gilmour ever did, and I was quite surprised to hear it by itself after all these years."

Digital Dan:
Thanks to Who1Zep's generousity in allow DR to use this rather rare and unique source, other Pink Floyd fans can also enjoy this special EP release. The LP itself was in excellent condition and relatively free of any surface noise or crackle & pop. Considering the lack of forthcoming from Pink Floyd or Columbia, this kind of rare material will likely remain in vaults with the master tapes not making it to CD. So this is about as good as it is going to get.

Austrian National Radio "O3" broadcast this concert live in its entirity. Before the show, a short interview with the band and fans was aired. The bootleg "Vienna" [BKCD 003/4 - 2CD] reproduces the show and has very good sound, though Phil's song intros are all absent and the opening lines of Hold On My Heart are omitted in order to remove the radio commentators' voices.

Comments:
"The recording is said to be a soundboard. I don't believe in this. Wolf said that he has completely muted the broadcast transmission carrier signal @ 15.5 kHz, which has been present througout the whole recording. Although this signal might have had other reasons, its presence strongly points to this recording being a FM instead of a soundboard."

Taken from the original reel-to-reel tapes used the broadcast the concerts. Captures Bob a bit over a year before he finally found success. Any and all Seger fans should have this show! Sound quality is EX+.

Lineage
This came to me in a DAT trade, and this was the enclosed documentation:

SBD>DAT>VHS HiFi>DAT

I then took my DAT clone and converted to shn:

My DAT Clone>WAV (SPDIF @44.1 KHz)>SHN (mkw)>CD

I suppose there is a pure digital version out there somewhere, but I have never seen this circulate, so I don't know for sure. This sounds pretty good despite the one analog generation. Enjoy and spread the tunes!

Total Length: 122:51 Mins

Notes: Has that old analogue recording sound. Takes me back to the days of Nixon and what the whole mood was at the time. Danger and excess. Not a great recording for sound quality. Probably rates a Good +, but definitely a keeper for the nostalgia of the period.

Show Identifier: At the start of Money, Roger says "Thank you for coming... I just wanna tell you something, I'll tell you, we take around on the road with us some very, very good spotlight operators and the Unions in this town wouldn't fucking well let them work the spotlights, and the guys they let work the spotlights were a load of fucking shit"

Notes
Often mislabeled as 6.12.80 as well as 6.26.80
This show comes from Japanese bootleg: Boot -> EAC [high, secure] -> SHN

It is different from most circulating copies since it includes the I-Three's opener and also has very high quality sound. The only known cut in this show is about 5 minutes of crowd clapping before encore. This is one of my favorite shows. Get it if you don't have it.
