Nice Show from Bob. I finally got to see a show with Desolation Row in it. I am so glad he added some older stuff back into the set. There were some talkers to my right throughout the show. Not sure why people come to show just to spend the night talking about their BS.

JEMS has seen and recorded Ferry and Roxy Music going back to 1976, the most recent being a fine 2011 set at the Beacon in NYC that we posted shortly after the show. This night was one of those weird ones where the recorded performance is better than the in-person one. Something felt a little rushed as I watched it unfold, and as much as I appreciated the crack young band (especially drummer Cherisse Osei) and how willing Bryan was to give them the spotlight (he quite literally sat out of it, stage left, on keyboards for at least half the show), the show only resonated deeply in a few moments, notably "Same Old Blues," "If There Is Something," "Virginia Plain" and a song I've been waiting since 1983 to hear again in concert, "Take a Chance With Me."
But the recorded document is quite forgiving. While "More Than This" is inexplicably less than a minute snippet, many of the performances are hard to argue with upon further review. Bryan's vocals aren't as upfront as one might like, but fifth row seats delivered a nice, up-close recording. Samples provided.
There are, however, a few caveats. That bane of all tapers, Wolf Whistle Guy, was seated directly behind me, and he lets his piercing note loose multiple times across the set. I tamed some of them with isotope RX, but artifacts remain. He was also the kind of jackhole who feels the need to narrate the performance, at full volume, for those seated next to him. There wasn't much I could do about that. There are also two brief instances where this otherwise wide stereo recording is crushed to mono, to mask a conversation directly into the mic.
While all that is annoying as fuck, it still doesn't detract from a fine snapshot of Bryan Ferry circa 2014. JEMS was also on hand for Bryan's Seattle date a week earlier, but a speeding ticket caused us to miss the first several songs of the show. I've pulled the two variants, "Prairie Rose" and "Running Wild," and added them as bonus tracks.

A more detailed from the taper:
Even as recent as the night before Desert Trip was Desert Mirage, the more money I sank in, the more remote the reality of this experience became.
I had zero interest in this show whatsoever when originally announced. Too expensive, too far, too much of a hassle, I have seen all these bands so many times and I always do Culture Collide this time of year. The first domino to fall was when it looked like Culture Collide wasn't happening.
Then a week prior, prices on the secondary market were in total freefall. Started putting out feelers, had an offer on a room across the street at regular pre event pricing. Suddenly wanted to do this so hard. Got the ticket ($182 for Grandstand S4) and locked in the room. Should be able to find someone to drive me out there and share the cost of the room, right?
Turns out none of my friends - many of whom were talking nonstop about this for months - were the least bit interested, even with "cheap" tickets and place to stay.
Even the night before I still had no way out there. Texted every professional driver I know saying name a price. First response back was over 12 hours later. Went to go see Deap Valley followed by ZZ Top on Thursday, still working it the whole time but my phone stopped working up in the hills of Griffith Park so I had no choice but to enjoy the show.
Get home from ZZ Top and in one last ditch effort look at Greyhound, who never seems to go anywhere I need to be. Turns out they have buses to Indio every 2 hours around the clock. And I am on my way! Still never found anyone to share the room which is kind of a sore spot as it put me a few hundred over budget, otherwise I would be scheming for this weekend as I had a great time.

Notes by the uploader:
This release is sourced from trade CD-r's. It's an audience recording. It's not the complete show. The opening songs Embryo and Fat Old Sun are missing. Cymbaline is cut just after the footstep sequence begins.
I removed a total of 49 gaps, bad edits, diginoise spikes and checked the speed. I have included a file pf1971-10-31 (T-1606)edits removed.flac which contains all the sound from the edits made when sound was deleted. If you burn as audio I wouldn't recomend including this file on the audio disc. I did the editing, mastering (tweaking), and artwork for this version of this show. Don't add, change or remove any of these files. Please keep the text, md5 and artwork files unaltered, together with the FLAC's. Don't rename directories or file names if you share this. My concern is that when people rename them they drop information like date, venue, location, T number. This information is useful to others when searching for or deciding which version of a show they want or already have.

An average quality audience recording, perhaps only for completists although it is not terrible, just strangely distant - I have applied normalisation in an attempt to remedy this somewhat.

Geetarz Comments:
A really nice audience recording, and particularly fun when auditioned on a nice set of headphones. Includes a standout performance of "Have You Ever Loved a Woman", easily one of the finest of the 2004 Tour, complete with a key change not found in most versions the band played. "Cocaine" lacks a bit of enthusiasm and doesn't quite stand up to later versions, but the band more than make up for this with a spirited "Layla" in which Doyle takes the lead solo, spurring EC onwards a bit. Some slight diginoise at the end of "Sheriff" mars an otherwise impeccible recording.
