Notes
This is a great stereo sbd recording with wonderful small theater ambiance.
Peter forgets the lyrics to solsbury hill and a roadie has to bring out the words for him to read off a paper and the songs restarted. Peter also forgets some lyrics during "I Have The Touch" (from "pull my chin, strock my hair" to "shrug my shoulders, stretch my back"). He also has to wait before starting "The Family And The Fishing Net" because of a problem in the audience between people who want to stand up and people who want to sit down. During "Games Without Frontiers" Peter seems to have a technical problem with his microphone after the first verse. Before starting the second verse we can clearly hear Peter saying "back again, on the air". "Lay Your Hands On Me" has a long intro apparently due to Peter's difficulties to start his vocals (before beginning the first verse he says "take three").

Comments:
Excellent soundboard from Gabriel's summer 1987 tour of outdoor amphitheaters. By this time, he had been promoting the album for the better part of a year, so the set had pretty much jelled and the band was hitting on all cylinders. All of these performances were great.

The recording itself . . . I traded for it from an established Gabriel collector in early 1988; he claimed it was a soundboard. Most of the commenters here appear to think it's an audience recording, so perhaps it is -- either way it's a very nice recording for the era. I don't know the generation, but given when I got it and how well-connected he was, I don't think it's more than two or three generations removed from the master. The fidelity for a cassette recording is really nice. Listen to the mp3 samples and judge for yourself.

This is a mixture of two existing torrents. The DVD torrent "Peter Gabriel - Philadelphia 87" and the AUDIO torrent "PG 07-21-1987 Soundboard. So I synchronised both audiotracks and create a new DVD with the audiotrack of the soundboard recording - it sounds much better. The only track which wasn´t ok is BIKO, so I used the original one from the DVD. I´ve also added a menue and a better cut between the two original halfs and a new DVD label.

This concert I taped with an AIWA walkman (I don't know what kind of AIWA) and an extra microphone (I can't remember what microphone it was). The sound quality is vg + or exc-, mostly excellent-!!! I recorded it from a seat on the right side in the hall - on the second row about 10 meters from the stage. The first seats were very, very near to the stage in that really great hall. Here we have another master tape of mine where I had a few problems with, but not too much. I don't have much memories but the first seconds of the intro from my master were missing so I took them from another one. ..just listening to it "Don't give up" seems to be from another tape, too. There are some "cuts" because of tape-flips. It is what it is. But this is a real great recording. And it was a great evening too! For me, the best concert of the SO-Tour - the best of five gigs I've been to that year (Stuttgart, Köln, Bochum, Werchter and Rotterdam)

Digitally recorded by Wender Figved directly from broadcast, this one took some piecing together! Various parts were broadcast at different times and recorded to different DVD recorders so there was lots for Willem to do here putting it all back
together and redubbing the sound from the best possible sources.

The results are well worth the wait! A couple of Peter's best solo piano renditions of classic songs, framed by the beautiful Arctic  kyline, plus two guest appearances on other artists' sets, including a storming version of 'The Feeling Begins' from the 'Passion' album with Brian May from Queen on guitar. There's also a speech from Nelson Mandela and an interview with the great man himself (Peter that
is...!)

To round off the disc we have some more of what Peter's been up to since his last proper tour - first up are three songs from Youssou N'Dour's "Youssou and Friends" concert in Geneva on October 8th, 2005, which represent Peter's entire contribution to the show.

And last but not least, Peter's 'interesting' version of Imagine from this year's Winter Olympics opening ceremony in Torino on the 10th of February. I think a lot of you might have seen this already but all versions so far have had some TV presenter commentary over the opening of the song - lucky for us Willem was on hand to record the Dutch broadcast which left the audio intact!
