Show Comments:
Closing Night of the Tour. Tour has come a long way since the opener in Vancouver. While it won't be remembered as U2's greatest tour, going to Sao Paulo for four nights was a lot of fun. Good show overall and enthusiastic (yet respectful at key points) crowd.

I included the performance of Bad from the second show as a bonus. Mostly just because I was very fond of that version. 

Recording Notes:
Nothing too crazy. My usual rig and setup. There were some technical issues beyond my control, which led to a bit of distortion on the high end of Bono's vocals. Audience recording is generally pretty solid.

Mixing Notes:
Biggest blemish in my opinion is the minor distortion on Bono's vocals. I've done the usual array of tricks with metronome and count removal, but you can still hear some remnants if you listen closely. 

Usually when I release something, a bunch of folks tell me "Oh I wish it had more audience" or "I wish it had less audience". Of course, most of these folks don't mix so it's gut feeling. For the Vancouver 2015 multicam, I released three different mixes with varying level of audience...and still had people wanting different levels of audience ("Could you make a mix that's between the Wet mix and Goldilocks mix?". As I did with Vancouver 2017, I'm presenting this show in a few different formats.

For those wanting a recording that seeks to sound like an officially mixed live recording, check out the "Wet" mix. I have uploaded this as a separate package for ease of downloading.

For those looking to "Build-A-Mix Kit", I've included in a separate package the Dry Mix + Unmastered Mix + CA11 AUD. Dry mix is a mastered IEM-only mix with my usual bells and whistles, Unmastered is without a lot of the sweetener (although still plenty on individual tracks), and then the Raw AUD. Everything is time aligned.

So with the Dry (or unmastered) and AUD, all the aspiring mixers can create their individual mix to their own tastes. For anybody wanting a full mix, check out my Wet mix. For anybody wanting more of straight soundboard type sound, check out the Dry mix. If you want only an audience, check out the straight audience recording.

I do ask that the aspiring mixers refrain from torrenting their outstanding mixes. I think it would be a bad thing to have a ton of different mixes popping around the internet--better that everybody just tries their own hand at it. But feel free to post clips of your mix in torrent comments.

As always, encouraging people to get into taping and mixing. Just take the craft seriously and it will reward you many times over. There's no point in complaining about missing recordings or subpar quality if you're not contributing--pushing 1's and 0's around on the internet is no comparison for taping. 

IEM recordings are not for everyone. If not they're not your thing, either sonically or ethically, there's excellent alternative recordings out there. 

Similarly, I'm mixing primarily for my ears. This is what sounds best to me. This may not sound best to you. That's a fair statement. I'm open to honest criticism (although you should have caught me when I was working on the mix!), but pointless complaining is unappreciated (naturally). Let's play nice.

Show Notes:

Twelfth performance at The Sphere and first with a guest artists appearing onstage as Lady Gaga performed vocals on three songs.

No noticeable technical difficulties with the band (audio or video). Very minimal talking is heard on this recording, which is a treat because the show was amazing. The Sphere visuals take these songs to another level and has to be experienced to appreciate it all.

Recording / Editing Notes:

Talking and song snippets were included on song that just concluded so each track stats with the next proper song. Talking as the song begins (ie: One, Love Rescue Me) was included with the primary track. I used https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/u2/2023/sphere-at-the-venetian-resort-las-vegas-nv-7ba0c274.html to confirm track edits.

Partial band introductions were left on I Still Haven't Found until the "rhythm section thing you got going on" started Desire.

Clear vocals but perhaps the instruments could have been louder but I didn't want to mess with the EQ too much.

Settings on the CA 9200: Gain +15db, Volume 100% and Edirol R-09HR: Line Input: 38, Plug in Power: Off, Limited: Off, Low Cut: Off, Mic Gain: Low.

Adobe Audition channel adjustment to balance volume in channels, right had average RMS value that was 0.56dB higher and balanced. My reference for calculating RMS in Adobe Audition (because I never remember) is here: http://bit.ly/2ooIg4e.

Final EQ adjustments in Audacity were: +1dB Bass, +1dB Treble, +9.0dB Amplification

Description
A very special concert with a particular setlist nearly one month after the events of 09/11. Some Firemen and Policemen of NYC are the special guests of U2 that night and there is a strong emotion during the introduction of One. A beautiful cover of Marvin Gaye's What's Going On, and a short but powerfull version of Peace On Earth make this bootleg definitively a must have.

Sound
Excellent soundboard. I corrected a litte cut on Peace On Earth with Adobe Audition and gave to the concert a more space sound to recreate the sensation of a concert sound (sorry for my English and it's my first torrent). Some may like it, some may not. I've extracted the tracks from DVD with DVD Audio Extractor in Wave Format.

Some of you know that JEMS recorded the 2001 Notre Dame webcast direct from the satellite feed. I posted that audio a couple years ago and the response seemed to be positive in that it was considered the best version yet to circulate (oddly, a webcast-sourced version was posted to U2T a few months ago that some preferred even as the capture, by its very nature, should be inferior. Not throwing stones, I just don't understand how a direct capture from a satellite receiver could be inferior to a webcast downstream of the same source given the state of broadband in 2001).

While we were not able to capture live video ourselves, live video was recorded from the satellite though not of the multi-camera feed. From what I was told, this was because the feeds were coming through in PAL as that was the video system U2 employed on the road, but the so-called Bono-cam was NTSC and that feed was recorded. Now I honestly don't recall to what tape format the Booncam was captured (it was most likely Betacam), but well after the fact, JEMS was able to borrow and dub those pro tapes to what was the best format we could put our hands onto on short notice, Digital 8.

This DVD is the first time those Digital 8 tapes (three of them) have been transferred and circulated. Our good friend KS did the authoring and the syncing to the DAT audio source. He has done great work in the past and this one is no exception. He felt the quality was strong enough to author as a dual-layer DVD which will annoy some of you but at this point dual-layer burners are pretty common. This will be the only version.

Now, the real question is, is this better than what's circulating? I know at least one other satellite capture was made of the Bono-cam and it has always been my presumption that it was the source for all the copies in circulation. I have compared ours to the screen grabs at Achtung Bootlegs and it does appear to be an upgrade. The colors aren't as washed out (look at the green of Bono's guitar). The picture edges are more defined (read the word "Security" on the jackets near b-stage), and the audio should be an improvement. I have attached screen grabs of the menus and a few other frames to help guide you.
