Notes:
Here are two versions of this classic punk rock show. An incomplete version as on the silver bootleg CD, and a complete version from an improved quality alternate source. The alternate source is the entire show, with its one missing track filled in from the boot version. 

This is far from a perfect soundboard, but the performance is so fantastic that it doesn't take away from the enjoyment. I have just about every live Clash recording in collectors hands, and this show is in the top 5. Possibly the earliest performance of 'White Man In Hammersmith Palais".

"This has some distortion, but it's such as great tape it is easily gotten past - and this is punk rock so just crank it up and don't give a damn! The performance is great, with high energy interpretations of just about all of the early set material. The grade above [b] is for the tape version, while most copies have the LP as a source. That seems to originate from a different recording, and has even more distortion, dropping it to a B-. The recently released CD was probably mastered from the bootleg vinyl, but I haven't heard that one. Both LP and CD cut out the first "1977", "White Man...", and "Police and Thieves", while the tape version loses "Career Opportunities" to a side switch. All things considered, this is the best 1977 show, especially in the tape version. "Pressure Drop" makes one of its occasional appearances, as it would do until the end, in the speeded up style. Other interesting bits are early performances of "The Prisoner" and "Clash City Rockers," and Joe getting pissed at the Damned (also on the bill) for lighting a stink bomb."

Donít be fooled by ëSBDí this is a fairly generated show with tape wear and hiss. Iíve fixed the drop outs by copying the good channel across using Soundforge and re-tracked using CDWave, nothing else has been altered other than a fade out on Garageland. This copy contains a short interview with who sounds like Kid Jensen from BBC Radio 1(or 2)

From BMC
Taken direct and raw from the soundboard the best circulating recording captures all the instrumentation very well and more importantly the intensity and attack of the performance. Its faults are mainly due to tape wear and it being at least one copy, but more probably several copies off the master. There is some hiss and numerous minor tape dropouts but its faults canít detract from it being a highly enjoyable sound. A number of other faults are from the original soundboard problems as the soundman wrestled with the legendary Clash volumes.

Two CD collection of rare Clash material. 55 unreleased songs.

Review
Perhaps the ultimate collection of Clash rarities. Taking you right through their career. From the first sessions for Polydor in late 1976, right up to the outtake for the "Janie Jones" single in 1982. Along with 'Clash On Broadway Outtakes' and 'The Rat Patrol' you almost have all The Clash demos, outtakes and alternates. The Polydor demos have been discussed elsewhere before but the versions here are the excellent quality ones, probably taken straight from the master tapes that now reside in the vaults of Polydor. The Micky Foote demos are another set of first album songs, along with the interesting Janie Jones instrumental and the studio chatter in the background. The highlights of this double disc set for me are the alternate studio mixes of "White Man", "Clash City Rockers" (which I believe is superior to the official version), "The Prisoner", "1-2 Crush On You" and "Pressure Drop". The promo video shoot tracks are also excellent, and are the best alternate versions of "White Riot" and "1977" ("1977" is simply amazing.) The band are on fire for those tracks.

You'll notice this compilation serves as a very handy substitute for 'London's Burning' and 'For All The Young Punks'. The 'Rope demos here are of much better quality. In fact, we almost have all the album. Then of course the interesting soundcheck rarities. Muddy Water's "Baby Please Don't Go" is a great one, very rocking, and there are also a couple of 'London Calling' era songs that are also on 'Pier Pressure'. The 'Sandinista!' outtakes are nothing new, though it is thought that it's Norman Watt-Roy on bass for "King Of The Road", as he replaced Paul (who was off shooting a film in Canada) for much of the 'Sandinista!' sessions. The "Revolution Rock" instrumental is a good song to have, and pretty rare also. A song I heard here first time of all was the "Cool Confusion" alternate mix, which is actually pretty good. The addition of drums in the mix makes a big difference.
So all in all, this richly deserves a 10. I've sort of glossed over the details a lot but the songs speak for themselves really. Adam Headland (Clash On Tour) has done a good job gathering together all the loose ends of Clash studio rarities. These all seem to be the best quality sources as well. I'll also mention the "What's My Name" live track. Not strictly a demo or anything, but just included for fun I think. It's the same song as the famous video where Joe turns to the camera: "Here we are on TV, what does it mean to you? What does it mean to me? ... *!%*!%*!%*!% Off!"

Highly recommended, all Clash fans must have this. Rated: 10 / 10

Their very first show in Italy. It's a very good audio version coming from a double vinyl printed to the time of the show. I've received it on tape many years ago and the sound is so clear that I think the generation cannot be too high. The band played the first 8 songs with one or maybe even two different drummers seen that their drummer Headon wasn't still arrived on the spot. From the 9th song ahead the band came back in its original line up, and with no offence for nobody the true show started from that song. Enjoy it!

I received this in a tape trade many years ago. The original source is a double vinyl in shops to the time of that tour. This is the second of the two audience recordings rated on blackmarketclash website. The audio is quite decent. It's saturated in many volume peaks but is still in some way pleasant to listen. I've worked a little the sound applying mainly de-crackle, and 60 Hz hum removal filters for reduce distortions and clean up the sound as much as possible. Probably was the most awaited italian gig ever of the band which was attended by over 15,000 people. It was also the last date for that tour. Enjoy it!

A tape from a second source recording has the best sound of all, although this is maybe a matter of personal choice. It too is a copy or two off the master and so suffers from a drop in clarity and crispness. It’s winning characteristic is it has a more exciting dynamic sound which captures the brilliance of the performance the best. Mick’s excellent guitar playing is heard very well indeed, bass is quite good and vocals are clearer and less distant. On the negative side there is considerable distortion that gives a somewhat shrill sound at times. Chat near the taper may be a problem to some but actually adds to the atmosphere of an historic concert and is not detrimental enjoyment-wise. An upgrade to the master would be very welcome indeed as the master recording was clearly a very good one. Bankrobber is complete on this source but an edit on The Leader loses about 20 seconds. By adding The Leader from the first source to the second source you have the complete concert in the best sound. A very enjoyable bootleg with a sound that is good enough to really appreciate the excellence of  The Clash’s performance.

Nice sounding show from RLR collection. Browsing a bit I noted that the setlist was longer than this recording so I believe this is a kind of incomplete. The Velodromo Vigorelli was back in the 60's/70's/80's the venue for large crowds where artists such The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Toto, Santana had played before. It was basically a bike racetrack on open air which made the acoustic very nice and a quite "intimate" atmosphere. Unfortunately over the years the racetrack - made basically of wood, was quite deteriorated because of the weather. The very last show I saw at Vigorelli was somewhere 10 years ago, then it was shut down for renovation but I understand there are still issues about defining its exact usage (concerts? races? both?) so it is still closed.

The Clash were huge in Italy about that time but they were not as wild as in the 70's and the punk movement was starting to lose its driving force, and a few years later it was completely obscured by new wave and 80's disco.

This is taken from a nice radio broadcast in Belgium, which was basically the beginning of the band's disintegration. They would last 4 more years before splitting up. Sounwise this is an almost perfect quality and the band is still on fire. I believe this is one of the earliest shows with Terry Chimes on the drumkit since he had rejoined the band.

Review

An early performance from mid '77. Not the earliest, but you'll notice it's all first album material. This is a great 12 song CD from start to finish. Excellent quality, and the best source for some of the rarer first album tracks, such as Protex Blue, Remote Control and 48 Hours... which Joe announces:

"It's Saturday night you've just got paid, Monday's coming don't be afraid! - get on with it!"

During I'm So Bored With The U.S.A. in particular Joe seems a bit knackered, or maybe that's just his vocal style on the night. This is not the complete show sadly. I believe London's Burning and 1977 are missing from the start of the set, though 1977 is played last again.

Deny is a superb performance, very clear. Throughout the set the vocals are very clear and almost all the lyrics are decipherable, which is more than can be said for the album! (Which incidentally had only been out for a month or so at this time.)

"Now you can rest your sweaty armpits and move your knees! Your knees! Police and Thieves in the street!"

As you would expect, this is a great performance. Joe seems to mention Leicester's De Montfort Hall near the end, before he says that he isn't Diana Ross. I'm reliably informed that the venue was the Polytechnic though. The start of Capital Radio is particularly excellent, nice blend of guitar and drums, and the song itself is great. "Don't touch that dial!"

What's My Name, Protex Blue and Remote Control all superb. Especially Protex Blue, and it's good to have a great live version of Remote Control. Once Complete Control came along they dropped its "Mother" song from the set. Definitely a show to get your hands on. Early Clash at their best, and with excellent faultess sound quality throughout. Well recommended!

Old FM Radio Recording Info : 
Dutch radio recorded the concert and broadcast seven songs. The songs chosen reflect the major musical changes happening in the band with a run of 3 lengthy Clash rap/funk songs: Lightning Strikes, Radio Clash and Magnificent Seven, sandwiched between more traditional Clash fayre of London Calling, White Man in Hammersmith Palais, Bankrobber and I Fought The Law. 

There are 3 circulating versions of this source. The original 7-song source has marginally better sound than the 8-song source found on the end of Stockholm’s Burning (and on the end of the full audience source). The 8th song is One More Time with markedly poorer sound but from the soundboard radio source, suggesting that the rest of the concert may circulate from this source one day. 

The radio station mix has Mick’s guitar in the left channel and Joe’s in the right, with vocals, bass and drums centred. A highly enjoyable sound reflecting the move away from the lead guitar dominance of the concert sound mix in 1980 (especially the May/June dates) to the pared down lead guitar sound and greater prominence of the rhythm section and vocals on this tour.

This is from a cdr I purchased at a record convention titled "France 1981", Red Line RLCD 31011. The disc was converted to wav with Roxio Easy Media 8, flac with Flac Frontend.

The sound on this gets an A. Apparently, this is only the first hour of the show. Tracks 01 and 10 fade in. Overall, this is a great show, and I figured I'd add it since it's not currently being offered here.

This is a superlative example of the Clash’s ‘16 Tons’ tour. The band is at a peak here, even with a hobbled Topper Headon. Mickey Gallagher’s organ playing added a lot of dimension to the band’s sound, especially on the London Calling numbers, and the band is tight and together. Mick’s guitar sound is particularly impressive here.

Notes:
It's a very good video and it is one of the few complete Clash concerts caught on video. This is easily a 9/10 in my opinion. The sound is also excellent.
