Here's last sunday's SIMPLE MINDS show from Koeln (for some of you known as Cologne). As they stated before, the setlist consists of songs pulled only from their first 5 albums. So, not the real big hits are played here, but and interesting mesh from before their stadium days. Even if a lot of people hoped for "Alive and kicking" or else, the band followed their strict rule; something really sympathetic. Beyond this I can't tell you anything more, as I don't know much beyond the airwave songs, and most likely will never know. But - as sometimes with some recordings - I don't see any reason why not to post this show. As our team knows, there are a lot of Simple Minds-Afficinadoes here, who will love to listen to this. Maybe some of you were there??? For all of you: Enjoy it. The tape does not transfer the boiling temperatures, but maybe you switch on your heating, so you can relive the show in your living/soundroom.

Tape story:
The venue is an amazing square (the central square of Modena listed since 1997 as UNESCO World Heritage Property).
Strangely the concert was confirmed in this old square after the Emilia earthquake (differently from Radiohead in Bologna and Kasabian in Ferrara that were moved from the relevant central squares).
I have located myself in front of the left stack, about 15 m from the stage.
Not more people were around me and also very quiet.
The sound is extremely very good. Imho one of the best recordings I have ever done.

What about the show?
It was my fourth Simple Minds concert (the previous were in Milan 1984, Reggio Emilia 1986 and again Milan February 2012... 26 years later!!!) and I enjoyed a lot.
Of course I would have preferred more to attend a 5x5 full set than the proposed 5x5 + hits set since I still remember the 28th February 2012 concert as a very special event.
The band appeared in very good form and Jim Kerr spoke more in Italian than English
(with a very special appreciation of the Italian ice-cream that someone was eating in a cafè/restaurant in front of the stage during "Don't You (Forget About Me)").

Technical notes:
- The total running time of the recording was 02:00:17; I have cut the first 7:50 min and the last 1:30 min (pre-recorded music) reducing the master to 1:50:57
- I have amplified the whole recording (+6.0 dB on the left channel, +8.0 dB on the right channel) and faded-out the last 10 secs
- If you burn to audio CD, you will need 2 CDs (CD1: 1-16; CD2: 17-21)
