Release Notes:
There were lots of stops and starts to be found in the 'audience' source tape, as you'll hear. Many of the transitions have been smoothed as best as possible, with an effort not to lose any of the content.

Some overlap containing radio talk in the sources' transitions having been edited out here. The real-time transition between "A Apolitical Blues" and "Cold, Cold, Cold" was actually a few seconds longer and contained a bit more applause, which was unfortunately accompanied by radio talk. In order to make this transition sound smoother between the two very different-sounding sources, the applause/talk was removed. You won't miss it... (Apologies and thankyous to the DJs.)

Thanks so much to all involved in the recording and preservation of this excellent and historic evening!

notes by the uploader

I did a lot of work on this one. Side one of the tape is pretty nice. Side two has multiple problems but for the casual fan/listener I think it turned out pretty good. Cut out a couple dropouts. A few of the songs have pretty long tuning after they announce the song so they are at the beginning of the tracks. Tape flip during Dixie Chicken. Don't know at least one of the songs/jams. If there is something to add appreciate the help. Hans has the setlist quite a bit different but this is pretty close to accurate. Without another copy to fill in some of missing parts I think this is about as good as you can get. Really, I think the only music missing is during the tape flip. I left that blank to account for the time missing.

Show Notes
The tour was in support of The Last Record Album. The band had just finished doing 5 consecutive nights at Paul's Mall (small Boston Club of the era) and this performance was recorded at the Orpheum Theatre (2500 seats) on the night following that run. Perhaps the 5 previous nights help account for the band's over-the-top tightness and rhythmic pocket heard on this performance.

This show was originally broadcast live on WBCN 104.1 FM in Boston. There was at least one re-broadcast on WBCN about 6 months after the show.

Mix Notes
The main source for this 2-source mix is the FM re-broadcast for obvious reasons. It is very crisp and sounds fabulous! However, there are lots of drop outs and cuts throughout and there are 4 songs missing. All missing songs, cuts and dropouts were patched using the davmar77 recording. There are too many patches to mention them all but the big ones are an 11 second patch in On Your Way Down, an 11 second patch in All That You Dream and a 9 second patch in Romance Dance. There was also lots of extra stage banter between songs and crowd noise that was patched in for completeness including about an extra minute on the introduction from the house MC. Almost every song had at least one small drop out that was usually located in the beginning of the song. Those are hardly noticeable now. The 4 extra songs not included on the re-broadcast were One Love Stand, Rock And Roll Doctor, Down Below The Borderline and Sailin' Shoes. These are of course included here from the davmar77 source. The quality is considerably different than the re-broadcast but still nice quality. There are major problems with Down Below The Borderline from the PA or Radio on all sources. I did not make any attempt to fix anything here. It is simply included for completeness. It sounds fine at about 1:50 in.

All radio dj banter has been removed where possible.

Featroller comment:
thanks to Alex for pointing out to me that the version at archive.org is partial. I got the complete version years ago in a trade or from dimeadozen.org. Either way, here's the complete broadcast of one of my favorite feat shows. It's one of very few shows known to be circulating from 1991, the year of what got to be known as the stealth album: Shake Me Up. Due to epic lack of promotion it stayed WAY under the radar. What a shame! Four tracks are included, with rare recorded versions I know of for two. Boom Box Car may be the funniest song Paul ever wrote and has some of Richie's best studio work on drums. And Mojo Haiku is a great funky Craig Fuller song. The title track is better known, with frequent setlist appearances during the 90s. And then there's Spider's Blues, which gets my vote for most underplayed feat tune of all time. The FM sound is really good, thanks to Guy Vicker's remaster (check it out at the archive link above). He also did some fine artwork. Sam Clayton was absent due to illness; Guy's title Missing the Big Toe is a reference to the Bill Murray movie Stripes.

Notes by the uploader:
I remain uncertain of the date for this set. The date as I recieved it was April 1973. Track 1, the MC pronounces: "Okaaaaay. Direct from a return engagement at Mrs. Hull's Boarding House, here they are, Little Feat". In FeatBase there are no entries for San Francisco or The Boarding House in 1973, and particularly not the night before this date which is occupied by a date at another venue. Featbase lists the following dates for Richard's in Atlanta: Sep, 17-20, 1973 and Aug. 22-24, 1974, and only one date for the Boarding House in San Francisco: 6/1/1976. However, this set matches perfectly that given for Torrent #139289, and is the only one of the dates for which a soundboard recording is known to exist.

The tape is a cassette (Dolby-C) safety copy of a the master reel. I was informed that the reel was no longer playable so this is probably as good as it gets.
