early TYA show in the magnificent setting of the Wollman Rink at Central Park. So many shows took place there in the 70's and fortunately quite a few were captured on tape for posterity. 

This one comes from the tour supporting the Stonedhenge album and was part of a great festival called "Schaefer Music Festival" which ran from 1968 to 1976 and featured basically every single main act you could imagine, from Springsteen to Mahavishnu, Gentle Giant, Led Zeppelin, King Crimson, Poco, Peter Frampton and many more.

This is what seems like one of the earliest recordings by Japanese taper legend Mr. Peach, presumably a Tokyo resident who used to tape countless shows all over Nippon throughout the 70's. His recording equipment is unknown but we know he taped this show on TDK SA 90 cassette tapes, as Tarantura - as always - thankfully depicts their master recordings in their cover artwork - IMHO a real nice habit of appreciation to their "purveyor to the court" Mr. Peach which at the same time serves as welcome information for lineage-affine collectors. Find some useful information on legendary though seemingly at the same time reclusive Mr. Peach here: https://theamazingkornyfonelabel.wordpress.com/2014/01/06/famous-tapers-2-mr-peach

The track seperation and titling for "Hobbit" is a bit ...er "liberal" but nothing serious. Though not labelled as such, the last track "I'm Coming On" is not from this show but from Philadelphia Spectrum on November 14, 1970, and most obviously taken from the nicely cleaned-up version of the old early 70's vinyl bootleg LP which was torrented here a few years back (and yes, I checked myself!). Seems the guy(s) at Tarantura liked that number so much that they felt the need to add it to their set, and even use it for their album title. Odd, but given the quality of that number, somewhat understandable from my TYAanatic POV. :-)

1st gen cassette from the JEMS archives. This one captures TYA's stop in Detroit for this tour. This is an interesting document for the crowd chatter. How cool is it that someone's mother would take them to a Ten Years After show, their daughter no less. We get the mother-daughter duo yapping throughout the tape(thankfully mostly between songs) but they were probably responsible for this recording or right in front of the microphone(s) used to record this. The perfomance is actually quite good with extended jams for almost all the songs and a smoking but incomplete encore of Howlin' Wolf's Evil but the recording is fair to good at best.

I remember that I received this show here in December 1989 or in very early 1990 in a trade/swap from a Swiss collector along with copies of reformed TYA's 12/5/1989 Berne and 12/6/1969 Zurich Volkshaus shows. IIRC, my source was allowed to make his and my cassette copies off the taper's own respective master reels. That taper actually happened to be the same that recorded both two 1989 shows and' this show here 17 years earlier and at the very same Berne venue. Pretty cool coincidence in my book as it sure does not go without saying that a taper would muster dubbing another show after such a long time. That guy sure was/is a lifelong TYA nut, and my sincere thanks go straight to him for sharing his show, and for the pretty good sounding result.

Note from Alvinlee.com gigography: There are technical problems with the stage monitors during the first four numbers and Alvin is not very pleased.
