This is the last show of the first US leg of the Joshua Tree Tour. Took the day trip with a few friends for the show. It was a wonderful evening. Sat at a bar, conversed, made some new friends. Got to the show a little late, didn’t really care. It was such a perfect night for a concert. The weather was amazing and didn’t really care what came out of the tape tonight. We were still able to get up decently close to the left-middle stack on the floor. Thanks for M and DC giving me the pointers on this! U2 did not disappoint, once again. I didn’t look at the setlist before I went to this and I was surprised for them to not fool around and just get right into some bangers of tracks. Was blown away by the size of the stage and the visuals were solid. Tape came out pretty decent too.

Notes by the taper:
A great recording made leaning against the barrier at the back of the very front pit. I had a circle of about 5 foot of space around me so there's very little audience noise on this one. The first few songs were a bit bass-heavy over the PA but this soon clears up after the first few songs and the sound quality drastically improves. It sounds great on my Hi-Fi at home so I haven't added any eq. or processing.

The source for the bulk of this footage was NTSC but encoded 'Top Frame First'. I've left this 'as is'. Despite the film being broadcast by Ch4 in the UK, the live sound was the responsibility of The BBC. Having watched this a few times with both audio tracks I can honestly say I prefer the audience version. Jimmy's guitar, for one, is much more biting and it gives a completely different perspective to the procedings. Please feel free to extract these and make a surround version! These unreleased Dylan tracks come from the highest quality lossless sources. (NO LOSSY HERE!) Tape-sourced studio and Pre-FM songs have been cleaned of dropouts and corrected to true mono. Vinyl sourced tracks have also been corrected to mono and carefully cleaned of surface noise. Many of the vinyl sourced songs are fresh new transfers from test pressings, withdrawn promos & bootleg LP's and have yet to see an official commercial release (it remains to be seen if they ever will). Some of these songs have appeared on Biograph and The Bootleg Series but in very different versions. No compression or noise reduction was used in mastering, so if you're an audiophile and a fan of early Dylan, snatch it up!

A few notes on the DVD:
I no longer have cable, so I had a friend set his DVR to get this for me. I went over his house last weekend, plugged my H2160MW9 in via SVIDEO and captured what I could. I did not realize his UVerse box was putting out a 4:3 letterbox picture until I got home and loaded it on my computer. He lives 3 hours away, so I cannot go back to tinker with the video output. This is a wonderful show so hopefully someone got a proper HD encode or at least a nice 16:9 SD version yet to come. In the meantime this is a relatively small download (2.3 gigs) and it looks and sounds great if you can put up with the black bars. Again, this is a 4:3 LETTERBOX WIDESCREEN DVD. Do not download if this bothers you! I also made a quick menu with direct song access.
