Notes:
This is a fabulous FM capture. The famous Showdown on M street between George and Jimmy Thackery. Superb sound and a smoking hot performance.

Showdown on M Street: "When George Thorogood and the Destroyers launched into 'Madison Blues' in the second set at the Cellar Door Thursday, it was a signal (relayed by the light man) for The Nighthawks, playing across at Desperado's, to strike up the same tune. Midway through, Thorogood, guitar in hand, bolted out the M Street exit to meet Jimmy Thackery, also carrying
his weapon. The two stopped traffic for a couple of minutes, never missing a riff, then kept moving - Thackery into the Cellar Door to join the Destroyers, and Thorogood into Desperados." [Eve Zibart, "The M Street Shuffle," Washington Post, August 04, 1978]

Wow !! ... what a storming performance, just let down by a phasey sound and a large balance offset to the right (far more than just to offset the phase error), so I corrected these and quite a few other minor tweaks
Now it is truly outstanding, with George's voice and the solo instruments clearer and more foward in the mix, whilst the balance is now nicely spread across the whole stereo stage and the great dynamic music  really bursts from the speakers. Probably the best ever Thorogood performance / recording, IMHO...

George Thorogood and the Destroyers - Live at the Palomino Club, North Hollywood CA 1979-04-22 THIS IS ONE HOTT SHOW (with two "T"s)! Great recording and performance (CSpencer1 tape). You can feel the earth shaking during this show, that's about all I can say about it. Known locally as "The Johnny Cash Show" because of the tribute to the Man In Black, George sets 'em up and knocks 'em down. The house certainly is rocking. The recording is super, there's no other way to describe it. Although a KLOS broadcast, there's no carrier wave in the signal.

I just got this in yesterday from a batch of cd trades. I was pleasantly surprised with this newer version. This is a different KBFH broadcast than my previous release. This contains 1 additional song "Who Do You Love", though it does have a tiny glitch around the 2 min mark. And the end of "Reelin' & Rockin'" is complete on this one. Where as the older version was faded out early and the DJ was talking over it.

comments:
I'm posting this hoping someone tops me with an upgrade, because this show is incomplete. I went to this show back in '81. It was after Thorogood's third album and he was just smoking hot. Great version of One Way Ticket from that album. Anyway, it was being broadcast live so I left my mom strict instructions on how to tape it. She did OK, but forgot to do the tape flip on time. She forgot about it and then remembered and flipped the tape. I don't know how many songs were missed; I know he did Madison Blues and it's not on here.
