Note by the taper (happytrader):
I had this concert on cassette 20 years ago but unfortunately that tape was lost in the midst of time so didn't have it until very recently when this version was received in a trade. It sounds slightly cleaned up from memory of the tape I had but is still pretty lo-fi. I'm not sure whether it has been on Dime on before. It isn't great quality but a historically important show and well worth it for MC5 aficionados. To my knowledge it is one recording out of only two in existence of the band playing in 1971. That of course precludes the instance that someone might be sitting on some recordings that have never entered trading circles i.e. like the Stooges 1971 recordings recently released on Easy Action. There is a kind of a sad feel or atmosphere hanging over this concert - especially in 'Looking at you' which is an extended atmospheric jazz tinged version. Its as though the music is reflecting a great band coming to the end of its life.
