Decoded from SQ Quad, this DVD-Audio/Video features the original Quadraphonic Mix of the 1976 "BOXED" 4LP set:
TUBULAR BELLS (1973)
HERGEST RIDGE (1974)
OMMADAWN (1975)
and COLLABORATIONS (Compilation 1974-76)
Source: BOXED 3CD set (initial pressing 1989).
The decoding process was done by using a specialized Adobe Audition 3 script, that was developed by some nice guys at the quadraphonicquad.com forum. The overall fidelity was later improved by Cedar Cambridge 5 (phase correction, emphasizing and slight noise reduction). A close comparison to the Tubular Bells SACD showed only little aberrations in localisation and sound.
All processing done at 24 bit, 44.1 KHz resolution.
DVD-Audio: MLP 24 bit.
DVD-Video (mirrored): Dolby Digital 16 bit, 320 Kb/s.
By the way, the quad mixes sound great. Especially Ommadawn, which always was my favorite. To hear it for the first time in surround after 32 years was a heart-rending experience to me.
