notes
Multi-camera concert video shot with eventual public release apparently in mind. Part of five successive nights of shooting. Other bands (e.g., Replacements) were videotaped during these sessions as well. The tapes are rumored to reside in the Twin/Tone vaults. Bob Mould comments: "The recordings from 1981 were to be released as a multi-lp/video package tentatively entitled 'Soundcheck.' Twin/Tone probably has the tapes somewhere; I would suspect it's their final 'ace-in-the-hole', for when they next run out of money, or need another M&D deal. Everyone from that period (Mats, Loud Fast Rules, Hüsker, etc.) were part of it, so it'll be a big item at some point." The provenance of this particular copy is a mystery. Long uncirculated, this recording leaked out in the early 90s and is now fairly common.
