Several years ago, and old tape trader buddy - who wishes to remain anonymous -  sent me all of his Zappa tapes.  He mostly traded in the late 70s and early 80s, and most of the stuff was high-ish generation copies of the most common and widely circulated shows.  There were a few rare gems marked "do not trade," but this was before I found Zappateers - which made most of these items irrelevant.  So for the past few years I have scarcely given these tapes any thought.

Well, a couple of weeks ago I acquired a new cassette deck (the below-mentioned CR-3A).  I was playing a few tapes in it, to check out the speed and mechanics of the machine, when I grabbed a tape innocently (mis-)labeled "Hammersmith 26-2-78."  I popped it in the machine, assuming it was the circulating audience recording.  I quickly realized it was not.

So, what IS it?  Well, I thought it would be interesting to make up a story about it and introduce a new legend into the FZ-trader community (the mix is a bit Adrian-heavy, so maybe it's Adrian's monitor mix, and I got it from a guy who used to work for Adrian), but really I have no idea where this came from.  I asked the guy I got it from, and he has no idea either (he's not being secretive, he just doesn't remember).  But hey, it's a previously uncirculated soundboard recording with six tracks that are missing from the audience tape.  What more do you want?  Oh, you want it patched with the missing bit from the audience source?  Okay, flambay will do that for you, and he'll make it run at exactly the right speed too.
