Of course for release #200 I wanted something special so I went through the archives to find some good soundboard. The ABWH tour is still one of my favourite tours ever, although I had just seen one show in November 1989. This one comes from the earlier leg of the EU tour that took place in Northern Europe & UK. This is an amazing recording, albeit with two incomplete tracks. At one point I thought about patching the missing bits with the existing audience source from the same night but I thought I would leave it exactly as I received it.

For those who remember this tour, it was brilliant. Not only the four guys were playing extraordinarily good, but on the bass we could appreciate the great Tony Levin taking the place of Chris Squire. I wish I could see more of that. Infact, I had bought the ticket for the Modena show but that got cancelled because of Jon's voice.

Note from the original seeder (tbjohn1):
"Here’s another soundboard gem from S&G, taken from a series of shows they performed in New York City in 1993. Although I was not there, I understand Simon also performed solo in the second half of these shows, which were meant to be a representation of his entire career to that point – this disc only covers the S&G portion of the show. The quality of this is very good, although it is slightly tinny and compressed to my hearing – but nonetheless far superior to the audience recordings of these shows that are in circulation. One correction: the artwork track listing incorrectly identifies #15 as “Leaves That Are Green” – it is, in fact, “Kathy’s Song,” a unique version in two-part harmony throughout. Enjoy and keep your window open when finished so others can grab it."

From Rogier's Police page:
• Festival line-up: .., Midnight Oil, ..., Sting, ...
• Attendance: 70,000.
Less than two weeks after the end of his South African tour Sting returned to this country to perform a benefit show at a stadium in Johannesburg. The drummer of The Tananas, Ian Herman from Johannesburg, who played support during the shows a few weeks earlier, filled in for Vinnie during this show.
Before Heavy Cloud No Rain: "Hello Johannesburg. It's nice to be here at last. How are you? Me too".
"It's not a bad place Johannesburg. Is it? This song is called Seven Days".
After Fragile: "Johannesburg, we had a lovely time tonight. Thanks for listening. Thanks for coming. Have a great day. God bless. We'll see you again. Goodnight".
Directly after the show Sting flew to London, because he was scheduled to perform a benefit show with Elton John in London the next day.

After Treviso's date on October 20th, the band ended the second Italian leg of that tour with this show in Turin. This time the concert is complete and the quality is quite better being an FM radio master recording. There is only a reasonably annoying problem very common in every italian radio roadcast. Radio announcers talking really too much! And unfortunately there isn't actually much to do about this problem if not listen the show as it is.

This recording is a remaster of BigDee's FM recording of Suzanne Vega's show in Amsterdam from last October. The original torrent had a couple of problems which have been corrected for this remaster.

- First of all "Blood makes noise" wasn't indexed as a seperate track. This has been corrected here.

- The original recording also had some digital skips. Most were very small (less than 0.2 seconds), but "New York is a woman" and "Rosemary" both had 5 seconds missing. To complete the missing bits and to correct the small skips I've used a recording sourced from the Fabchannel.com webcast of this show. The website doesn't list its bitrate, but looking at the spectral view it looks like 128 kbps to me (if somebody can find accurate info on this correct me and I'll edit this info). If you know where the original skips were it's easy to spot where the edits happen, but at least the songs are complete now and we can hear the show as it was actually performed. Check out the mp3 sample below for a before/after comparison of the skip in "New York is a woman" and decide for yourself.

- Some of the tracks also had Suzanne's intro's at the start which I always find annoying as it makes them impossible to skip when you're tired of hearing them. They have been moved to the end.

Notes
Venue is the brand new Barclays Center which just opened last month, a 19,000 capacity arena which hosts the Brooklyn Nets. I believe Rush is only the third musical act to play there, after the opening concerts (eight) by Jay-Z and two performances earlier this month by Barbra Streisand. I had a perfect spot for recording audio. Too bad I left my good mics in the car for various reasons however I'm not crying over the recording I made. Sounds much better in my opinion than my Philly which was done from the rafters. Added bonus of very few talkers.
