Jimi Hendrix - Gypsy Sun and Rainbows - Studio Tapes (STU/FLAC)

(Studio FLAC)

A 3-disc collection of available studio recordings from the Gypsy Suns and Rainbows. These recordings date from late August to mid-September 1969, a period of a little over two weeks. The recordings all likely took place at the Hit Factory except for the last track (from the Record Plant). Shortly afterwards Jerry and Larry left the group, and the ensemble that played at Woodstock was only a memory.

There's nothing unexpected in this collection; all of the tracks are readily available on scores of discs. The versions included here are the best quality copies circulating, and they've been checked and corrected for technical issues including pitch, phase offset, and digital errors.

Together with the Shokan tapes and the complete Woodstock live concert, these complete the coverage of the brief existence of the GSR.

Hello KB fans. Back again with the second and last of my Kate postings. You were all great about sharing and your kind comments were much appreciated. Sorry if the artwork gave anyone trouble. I'll try to post it on the CD covers threads. Should be no problems this time, though.

A little history is in order regarding this release for those who may not know the story.
In 1972/73 Kate recorded several tapes of songs. Twenty to thirty of these songs were presented to record companies by John Carder Bush's friend Ricky Hopper, at first without success. Then Ricky Hopper presented the songs to David Gilmour. Gilmour noticed her talent, but also the bad tape recorder quality. A recording session took place at Kate's house with Gilmour in 1973. Only Kate was recorded, accompanied by her piano, but with a better recorder. Gilmour has spoken at least twice about this session in interviews. “I did some recording at her house, her parent's house...I know that one of the first songs that I noted was ‘The Man With the Child in His Eyes’, out of many songs that she had written. She was only 14, I think, when I met her, maybe just about 15.” This may be the session Kate had in mind, when she later said, “Absolutely terrified and trembling like a leaf, I sat down and played for him. He came along to see me and he was great, such a human, kind person - and genuine.” Gilmour has also said he “paid to have Kate go into a studio and re-record some fifty songs over again” possibly solo with her own piano accompaniment. Whether this refers to a separate studio session or the one with Gilmour and his musician friends as back-up is unclear. In any event, in August, 1973, Kate was recorded at Gilmour's farm studio with two “Unicorn” band members, drummer Peter Perrier and bassist Pat Martin. Gilmour played electric guitar. According to Gilmour between ten and twenty songs were recorded. This tape was sent to EMI.

Info from 'Eight Arms To Hold You' by Chip Madinger and Mark Easter:
"Now that he had helped Ringo attempt to resuscitate his recording career, it was time for Paul to figure out the next move of his own. With the (apparent) help of Denny Laine on some of the songs, he laid down several demos for a projected new LP project that would reunite him with George Martin. An August 1980 compilation of demos prepared for George consisted of old and new material for consideration for the upcoming LP project. The running order of the tape was as follows: 'Seems Like Old Times', 'Ballroom Dancing', 'Take It Away', 'Turkey And Peacock' (perhaps an early version of 'Peacocks'), 'It's As Simple As That (Tremolo Cello)'. 'Robber Riff', 'We All Stand Together', 'Stiff Tracks' (most likely 'Boil Crisis' and 'Give Us A Chord, Roy' which were very much like the tunes being released by Stiff Records at the time), 'Keep Under Cover', 'Average Person', 'Unbelievable Experience', 'Stop, You Don't Know Where She Came From', 'Wanderlust' and 'Ebony And Ivory'. While some of the songs ('Take It Away', 'Ballroom Dancing') were particulary strong, some of the tunes Paul submitted ('The Unbelievable Experience', 'Boil Crisis') were bad enough to force George to tell Paul to scrap them and write more; this he did. However, in 1987, an excellent quality tape of some of this material was released on bootleg as 'Rude Studio Demos' (a CD version was issued in 1989 from the same tape). In 1995, excerpts of several of the tracks were aired on various episodes of 'Oobu Joobu', and although they were in superior quality to the bootlegged versions, all of the airings were incomplete."

This bootleg sounds very good, and in the unofficial Boss' discography,it is a piece for very passionate collectors.

The Godfatherecords has made a work as good and accurate as always.

Comments:
While I don't appreciate Godfather's work on most of their releases; this bootleg is my favourite source for the outstanding "Oh Mercy" outtakes. I think they managed to reduce the hiss, without ruining the music - unlike so many other times.
The versions here differ from the released versions - to bigger and lesser extent.

Artwork:
This bootleg came in a cardboard sleeve, not correct size for jewel cases. But I scanned the cover...and then reworked it to fit a standard jewel case. It came out rather nice....took hours with the old paintbrush!

"Despite having many tracks already written and ready to go, Springsteen spent the whole of 1979 and a good part of 1980 penning and recording new material. If his home demos and song fragments are counted, a reasonable estimate of Springsteen's output for the River sessions is well over 150 songs."

So you won't find this better quality elsewhere. The Manchester show is the worst-sounding here - my guess is that it was recorded by putting a microphone up to an AM radio speaker(!).

Rod Stewart and Ron Wood - 1969-07-xx - New York City, NY (STU/FLAC)

(Studio FLAC)

This tape is a first generation tape of a recording that took place in July 69 in a recording studio owned by B. HARRIS and recorded by the man.
So this is a UNRELEASED STUDIO TAPE! (It was not recorded by Glimmerman).

Well, I guess it was … unreleasable!!!
The boys are having fun, bashing on some acoustic guitars and "singing" some "tunes"!
It's a piece of history and quite collectible.
There are two guitars sometimes, so who's the second guitarist? Rod?

You will find in the folder photos of the tape with the "tracklisting" handwritten on the box.
It was named "NOT NOT INSANE"
Well it's all in the title...

It was quite difficult to discern a song from another and to recognize them as they were quite in a jamming mood.
I tracked 14 tracks but I might have mastered it differently.
It's a raw transfer from the tape. No EQ, no Noise Reduction. No speed correction needed.
This version is HI REZ. 24/96000.

Like the above site says, Face Dances and It's Hard demos are hard to find. If you like Pete's demos, try out the Scoop series and his solo albums. The demos here could've easily ended up on one of Pete's solo albums from that era - Empty Glass or All The Best Cowboys Have Chinese Eyes.

Comments
Some really funny bits with Keith Moon, Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend here. All alternate versions of songs, studio outtakes and one Live uknown source. This is a classic Who bootleg.

"Upgrades From The Boxed Set". This is actually a pretty neat CD. Keith Moon continues his madcap spoofs we got a taste of on the "30 Years Maximum R&B" box set. These are, with the exception of Tommy's Holiday Camp, all studio cuts and include some humorous band banter between the cuts. "Melancholia" is The Who's version different from Pete Townsend's Scoop version. Tommy's Holiday Camp is live from an unknown source but appears to be from TKAA/Kilburn era judging from the sound. I Am The Sea & The Real Me is a Who version I have never heard before. It is a bit slower and the brass in the background is more prominent than on any known demo version. Pete's guitar parts are also played differently than on any known versions. One Life's Enough is a Roger Daltrey "crooner" that could have well, fit well with either of his solo LP's Daltrey or One Of The Boys. Overall a great bootlege cd for any Who fan.

Original seeder's comments:
Alto Reed was not a touring member of The Silver Bullet Band at the time of these recordings. Broadcast was compiled from 2 prior broadcasts from 1974. The broadcast was sometime in the 1990's. The bootleg was sourced from vinyl there are some pops present but not distracting. I did run a passive pop/click fix with Goldwave. I bought this CDR bootleg at a small used CD store for $4.00. There was only a printed insert with a track list. I ripped the wav files with EAC to run the pop fix and convert to mp3. I had just installed Trader's Little Helper so I ran a check on the wav files and they came up 100% CDDA so I encoded to flac level 8 instead.

This is a great early Seger show with emphasis on his blues roots. There are 4 songs in the set Bob never recorded: J.J. Cale's "Bringing It Back From Mexico", Hound Dog Taylor's "See Me In The Evening", Albert King's "Don't Burn Down The Bridge" and the Bob Seger original "Full Circle".

J Geils Blues Band - 1968-09-xx - Montreal, QC (SBD/FLAC)

Peter Wolf's Master Reel 3 3/4ips 1/4 track --> Maxell UD35-90 7 1/2ips 1/4 track (Revox B77) --> Tascam CD-RW2000 --> EAC --> CDWAV --> FLAC

Here's a real gem from the lost archives. If you are reading this you know what a powerhouse this band is live...no different here. This seems to be before the original songs when the band cut their teeth on blues covers much like Fleetwood Mac.

This is an excellent recording of an awesome performance. Anyone who loves rock bands playin the blues should have this. Let me now thank hezekiahx2 at Dime for these files...you are a saint.
