Found on Usenet some years ago, this is a first-rate performance by the classic lineup of Tower Of Power, to promote their "Back To Oakland" album. This is a dub of the pre-broadcast master reel from WLIR-FM, Long Island, NY.
The original, circulating recording is lacking in both the bass department (it went AWOL) and the treble department (it sounded like there was a blanket over the speakers). It was also quite out of phase, due to azimuth misalignment during dubbing and transfer, and the levels were all over the map. All of those have been fixed for this version. At last, you can hear and feel Francis Rocco Prestia's bass, restored to the mix by multiband compression. It is a giant improvement over the source.
The only thing that could have made this show better is if they had played "Don't Change Horses (In The Middle Of A Stream)," which was the lead single from "Back To Oakland."
