1967-10-11 Danbury High School Auditorium - Danbury, CT

Source: 1st Generation (Master 7" Reel (3.75 ips)>Reel To Reel>DAT>CDR)
Quality: B (Audience Recording)

01. House announcer
02. Moonlight drive (cut) / Horse latitudes
03. Money
04. Break on through (to the other side) / There you sit
05. Back door man
06. People are strange
07. The crystal ship
08. Wake up
09. Light my fire
10. The end

Though labeled an audience recording, this was in fact recorded through the school's PA system by a faculty member. The sound quality, however, is comparable to a very good audience recording. Unlike bootleg releases of this show, this tape has no cuts during "Break On Through" and contains Jim Morrison's complete introduction to "The End."

1967-11-03 Continental Ballroom - Santa Clara, CA

Source: 3rd Generation
Quality: B- (Audience Recording)

01. House announcer / Soul kitchen
02. Break on through (to the other side)
03. Alabama song (Whisky bar)
04. Back door man (cut)
05. The end (cut)

Nice low generation copy of this show. The end of "Back Door Man" is cut as is the beginning of "The End." For years, there was uncertainty as to the actual date of this performance. Collectors originally listed it as November 19, 1967 and then later as July 9, 1967. The date has finally been confirmed as November 3, 1967 after a fan recently discovered an old newspaper ad for the show. Another mystery solved!

1967-12-16 Swing Auditorium - San Bernardino, CA

Source: 2nd Generation
Quality: B- (Audience Recording)

01. House announcer / When the music's over
02. Horse latitudes
03. Break on through (to the other side)
04. Alabama song (Whisky bar)
05. Light my fire

Problems with the PA system force The Doors to end this show early despite Jim Morrison's claim to the audience that they would be right back. The actual date and venue for this recording are uncertain. It does seem likely that it was taped in the summer of 1967 rather than in December. Some believe this show may be from the Kaiser Dome on July 4, 1967 as it was a venue on the same grounds as the larger Swing Auditorium; however, reviews of that show do not mention any PA problems and all say The Doors put on a great show. This tape simply does not match those reviews. While not conclusive, I'm hesitant to relabel this show at this time.

1967-12-26 Winterland - San Francisco, CA

Source: 2nd Generation
Quality: B (Audience Recording)

01. Back door man
02. Break on through (to the other side)
03. When the music's over
04. Close to you
05. Mannish boy (cut)
06. Light my fire

The Doors were on the bill with Otis Redding for these December shows at the Winterland. Sadly, Redding was killed in a plane crash only two weeks before they happened. During "When The Music's Over," Jim Morrison debuts his "Poor Otis" lyric which will later be used as the introduction to the song "Runnin' Blue."

03. You're lost little girl (cut)
04. Love me two times (cut)
05. Wake up
06. Light my fire
07. The unknown soldier (cut)

An early show that includes a rare performance of "You're Lost Little Girl." Unfortunately, this recording has a lot of cuts on it.

04. Love me two times (cut)
05. You're lost little girl (cut)

Nice low generation copy that I recently remastered, repairing a large drop-out during "The End" and restoring the overall tape quality.

Very nice sounding audience recording from a low gen source. This version has been speed-corrected and remastered.

1968-07-10 Sam Houston Coliseum - Houston, TX [Second Source]

Source: 1st Generation
Quality: B- (Audience Recording)

01. Tapers' Chat
02. Break On Through
03. Back Door Man
04. When The Music's Over
05. Texas Radio And The Big Beat
06. Hello, I Love You
07. Little Red Rooster
08. Who Do You Love
09. The Crystal Ship
10. Light My Fire

A rare alternate source recording that includes an uncut version of "Who Do You Love" and a longer version of "Light My Fire" (almost 9 minutes). Unfortunately, this source contains cut versions of other songs (it's also missing "Wake Up") and is slightly worse quality than the first source. The opening track features the tapers discussing how to work the recording device.

Source: 2nd Generation
Quality: B+ (Audience Recording)

01. Break on through (to the other side)
02. Back door man
03. When the music's over [cut]
04. The WASP (Texas radio & the big beat)
05. Hello, I love you
06. Little red rooster
07. Who do you love? [cut]
08. The crystal ship
09. Wake up
10. Light my fire [cut]

Another nice quality tape from a great show. Jim Morrison improvises a lot of lyrics in "Back Door Man" and "When The Music's Over." This version has been speed-corrected and remastered.

1968-08-02 The New York Rock Festival, The Singer Bowl - Flushing, NY

Source: 1st Generation

02. Five to one
03. Break on through (to the other side)
04. When the music's over
05. Wild child
06. Wake up
07. Light my fire
08. The end

A famous riot show. Tape speed still distorts toward the end of the recording, but this is the best version of this source available.
