There are many things to love about the ten years of touring Bruce and the band did since reuniting on stage in 1999, but high on the list is the staggering amount of material assailed. By the end of the WOAD tour, Springsteen had tackled some 280 songs, a number boosted considerably by the sign requests of the last two tours, especially given how many of those yielded one-off covers. 

But even more compelling than live versions of other people’s songs are airings of little-performed material from Bruce’s own canon. It’s easy to forget that the 1999 tour was mounted in support of Tracks and rarities from the box did work their way into setlists to varying degrees, especially early on when such uber obscurities as “Car Wash” and “Brothers Under the Bridges” received their first and, to date, last airings. 

Fast-forward to the end of the 2009 WOAD tour in Buffalo, and again Bruce pulls out first/only readings of several songs including the stunning River outtake (included on Tracks) “Restless Nights.” Steve might have been right all these years year, indeed. 

For the hardcores, folks who saw dozens of shows over the last 12 years, these uncommon performances provided some of the greatest moments we experienced in those arenas. The genuine surprise delivered by a song you never thought you’d ever hear or hear again is one of the sublime pleasures of being a fan of an artist who has both an enormous back catalog and who isn’t afraid to mix up his set lists to revisit it. For us, there’s nothing more exciting than when Bruce steps to the microphone and says something to the effect of, “We don’t play this one much....” 

Those words provide the title to our comprehensive 6-CD anthology. "We Don’t Play This One Much" gathers ten years of rarities from the once-played to the infrequently-played, all in one place. This set is all about the songs you haven’t heard that often and haven’t grown tired of, culled to create a listening experience that should be quite refreshing to anyone who has listened primarily to complete shows from any of the four tours. 

You may wonder where we drew the line. The answer is somewhere around a dozen performances, any more than that and the song didn’t feel so rare any more, with just a couple of exceptions that felt like they would have been conspicuous by their absence given the other material included (like “Code of Silence.”) We've also included songs performed slightly more but new to the Springsteen live canon over the course of the decade.

A romp through the BBC archive library from 1975 to 1979 has unearthed some seldom seen performances of the rarely-explored genre of pub rock and other late 70s rock 'n' roll gems from classic music programmes like the Old Grey Whistle Test and Top of the Pops. Before the DIY culture of punk took hold there was a whole breed of real musicians who honed their craft in the backrooms of pubs. And towards the end of the 70s men's hair was starting to get shorter too.
This compilation has uncovered rarely-seen footage from the likes of Canvey Island's Dr Feelgood, original pub rockers Ducks DeLuxe, Eddie and the Hot Rods, Elvis Costello, Meal Ticket, Steve Gibbons Band, Dave Edmunds and chum Nick Lowe, a pre-Mike & the Mechanics' Paul Carrack in his first band Ace, a post-Faces Ronnie Lane, the Motors, the first TV performance from Dire Straits, Graham Parker and the Rumour and many more.

This set donated by Phil Monnier is an outstanding early Dylan (61/62) compilation. This set includes tracks from The Oscar Brand interview (10-29-61), Carnegie Chapter Hall (11-04-61), Bonnie Beacher's Apartment (12-22-61), and the Leeds Demo (Feb. 62). The 11-04-61 and 12-22-61 shows are serious improvements from what most Dylan traders have access to. Phil speculates that only a handful of traders around the world have these shows in this quality.
It is an unbelievable set. Another dylantree essential!

"The main purpose of this cd compilation is to give Dylan newbies excellent sounding early soundboard material. Both 12-22-61 and 11-04-61 are tremendous upgrades to anything that has been released on boot over the years."

This set isn't just for newbies! The 12/22 and 11/04 sets are an incredible improvement.

Remaster Additional Info.
This is a gorgeous remastering of the Dylantree Early Dylan set. As you may know, the dylantree version was flawed with "digital fuzz" in many places, particularly on the Beacher tapes sections. The fuzz is gone on the bprm. Other annoying extraneous noises have been removed, as well as overlong dead spaces between tracks. No EQ changes have been made to the original sound of the recordings. Levels have been normalized to match up the varying sources. The overall effect is to turn the Dylantree product into a two disc WOW! rather than a choppy collection of moldy old stuff. It's never sounded better. Steve Wilkison has done a wonderful job with this set. I consider it well worth getting, even if you have the original dylantree set. Here is an additional comment from Steve: "I spent the better part of two days remastering the "Early Dylan" set because it literally contained well over 1,000 separate digital glitches." The Joy Division footage here was compiled fer the unreleased ‘Substance’ video, I received it in a trade as Joy Division "Jukebox, and was probably made long before the "Substance comp. 'Substance' is still unreleased, but pirate copies are floating around…I would think that SUBSTANCE would be a bit better quality wise, Plus it has the interview segment missing from the ‘Something Else’ broadcast…along with the first couple of strands of “Transmission” missing from here, most likely.

Overall, however, the quality here is quite decent. The New Order “Celebration” is really good and the performance far surpasses the mind-numbingly dull Taras Shevchenko video. OK here's a great compilation of punk bands appearing live on American late night talk shows. This is the first of many i have planned, now in this collection there are some amazing tracks The Sponge track is incredible but its the only good song they ever did, the same goes for Eve 6, Plus 44 & the Foo Fighters. The Sum 41 & Iggy Pop performance is brilliant and the Good Charlotte track is tremendous, who knew they could come up with something like that. The Chumbawamba track is amazing to due to how they change it and sing "Free Mumia Abu Jamal" this got them in a lot of trouble and i'm still amazed the Letterman show broadcast it! Most of these are direct from my SVHS master tapes but occasionally there will be one encoded from another source, also the dates could be different due to using the air date when they were shown in the UK if i can't find the real date. Another great addition to everyones ever growing Punk Rock DVD library...
