Geetarz Comments:
The early 1990s were an amazing run for Clapton, with the growth of the Royal Albert Hall shows, constant touring, and seemingly inexhaustible exposure. Starting in 1990, "blues only" nights were a part of the Albert runs, and hugely popular with diehard fans. But EC's management and label resisted the idea of progressing any further in that direction. After the huge critical and commercial success of "Unplugged", Clapton was freed to pursue other directions, which eventually led to the "blues tours" in 1994 and 1995. The Summer and Fall 1993 shows were a fascinating melange of classic rock, pop, and hard blues. If you're one of those people who listens to "good music" no matter what the genre, the 1993 shows are probably the most accessible EC ever did live. In the fall of 1993, EC went to Japan, where the audiences are deeply respectful and appreciative - the perfect crowd for this fusion of old and new. The sets began quietly, with acoustic blues, veering from the Delta sounds to the sounds of electric Chicago blues, and then coming to the fire and fury of 1960s British Blues, with "White Room" and "Badge". After a breather of "Wonderful Tonight" (a perennial Clapton Speed Bump in most sets) there comes EC's unhinged rendition of Hendrix' "Stone Free". After a more modern pop / AOR break with "Circus" and "Tears in Heaven", the band breaks into a funky reworking of "Crossroads", the 1980s hit pop single "Tearing Us Apart", then digging deep into the blues with "Groaning the Blues". As if this set didn't cover enough musical decades, next we have EC's 1970s version of "Cocaine", with a new feel for the 1990s, Bessie Smith's 1920s "Ain't Nobody's Business", and then closing with those Seven Incredible Notes, "Layla" ... themselves taken from Albert King's "As the Years Go Passing By". Basically, this set is like a Graduate Level course in the history of the blues, taught by one of its best students. Recorded over several nights at Tokyo's Budokan Theater, this is an interesting release, as this is not a pure soundboard recording! Obviously mixed for broadcast / release, from several different nights, and the mix itself is what one could call a "radio" mix, in that crowd mics are used to add ambience as is usually done on broadcasts. One can only speculate that this was destined for release at some point, and plans were shelved. Luckily, Mid Valley to the rescue - an essential part of any Clapton collection, the eclectic mix of traditional blues, classic rock, and pop hits is a winner.

Kate Bush - Alone At My Piano (STU/FLAC)

(studio FLAC)
Alone At My Piano (Ukinel Records NY 1988)
modestly remastered & expanded
The 22 demos which Kate Bush recorded all by herself & her piano in November of 1976 can be found, as a whole or in part, on a number of bootleg CDs. The most common ones are "Cathy's Home Demos", "Practice Makes Perfect (Piano Demos No 1)", "If You Could See Me Fly", and "Passing Through Air". The order of the songs varies across those discs, the pauses between songs have been edited out and all of those bootlegs appear to be taken from a vinyl source. The sole exception that I know of is "Alone At My Piano", which presents an (almost completely) uninterrupted recording of all those demos, with inbetween-song pauses & noises intact, taken from a tape source (be it several generations removed from the master cassette).
What ALL those bootleg CDs have in common is that they play dreadfully slow, turning the singer into "a child with a woman in her voice" rather than the true musical prodigy Cathy was at the tender age of 18. That's why I have sped up the recording found on "Alone At My Piano" by about 5.4 %, which more or less restores the original tone & pitch of the cassette recording. What I didn't do is remove the hiss that is clearly present in the copy used for the bootleg (hence the "modest" remastering). We will never be able to get back into that room anyway, alone with Kate at her piano, so I thought it best to leave well alone. This is priceless stuff nonetheless... music in its purest form, methinks.
As for the "expanded" bit: I have added six tracks which can be found on the "Cathy's Home Demos" bootleg. They are two further solo demos from 1980 of "Babooshka" (the first with Kate alone on the piano & some vocal overdubs, the second with Kate at the piano & a rhythm box and vocal + musical overdubs) and five demos with band from 1977, the so-called "Kick Inside" demos. All those clearly derive from a vinyl source; I have removed the worst clicks & pops with the pen tool in SoundForge, but I did not remove the last bit of surface noise as, again, I didn't want to compromise the sound in any way by using a generic restoration tool.
Those wishing to read up on these wonderful piano demos from (November?) 1976 can have a field day on the following web pages:
http://gaffa.org/dreaming/demo_top.html
http://gaffa.org/phoenix/index.html
http://www.kate-bush.de/14333.html (in German, but well worth a visit)
re: the tracklist. The song titles of the 1976 demos are a moot point, as most of those songs have never been released officially. That's why these songs can be found with different titles on different bootlegs. What you find here are, first, what may well be the true original titles, followed by the various alternatives found for the songs in question on different bootlegs.

Notes by the uploader:
This is a collection of FM masters recordings i have from Rory's performances thru the years. (First upload from my sources).
1977: a jam recorded in Montreux festival, broadcasted on France Musique. This track (01) is not included in the official CD /DVD releases.
1982: on march 1982, Rory made a "Paris tour", playing several shows in the area. On march 8th he did 2 shows at the Paris Olympia; i remember i recorded the first and Phil (finkployd49) went to the second (making a recording too as well as he did in Melun). A portion of the second set was broadcasted on Radio 7 (02-08). We have the great "What in the world" here.
I added a track (09) recorded on TV from the Orleans show (same tour, on marh 10th).
1986: the tracks (10-15) were broadcasted on RTL, they came from the Casino de Paris show played on may 12th.
1994: on october 17th Rory played acoustic for the Europe 1 "Top Live" radio show (16-19). At the end of the session, he joined another guest of the day (the Au petit bonheur band) for a jam. On this track we can hear Jamel, the singer, saying proudly something like "hey mum, it's me with Rory on the radio".

1. Live Through This
The first thing a listener will hear when playing this disc is a loud "pop". Blue Moon has likely "borrowed" the Courtney Love demo from the Love Buzz CD. The Love Buzz version has a radio DJ who talks over the first few seconds of the song. Blue Moon has edited the first few seconds out and quickly fades into the song. For whatever reason, the "pop" noise was left in. This demo has Kurt on the backing vocals. The sound is FM broadcast quality.
2. Love Buzz This track is from the VPRO Hilversum radio session on 11/5/89. You can find "Dive" and "About a Girl" from this session on Outcesticide III. This track is unique to Outcesticide V.
3. Verse Chorus Verse (aka "In His Hands")
From the sound check 8/17/90. This is an upgrade from the recording found on Outcesticide II. This recording is probably borrowed from the Love Buzz CD also. Excellent stereo sound.. by far the best surfaced recording of this song.
4. Lithium
5. Rape Me
These tracks are from the 2/9/94 show in Spain. These were the only two songs broadcasted and unavailable on any other commercial bootleg.
6. On A Plain
7. Stain Tracks six and seven are the sound check to the MTV studios broadcast on 1/10/92. Sombody in the band snorts to the beat of "Sifting" before they start.
8. School
9. Molly's Lips
10. Aneurysm
Tracks eight, nine and ten are the unbroadcast songs from the MTV studios broadcast on 1/10/92. Excellent sound quality. These tracks are unavailable on any other commercial bootleg CD.
11. Love Buzz
12. Floyd The Barber
13. Downer
14. Mexican Seafood
15. White Lace and Strange
16. Spank Thru
17. Suicide Samurai
18. Hairspray Queen
19. Pen Cap Chew
Tracks eleven through nineteen are definitely the highlight of the disc. The source is apparently the same as the one tape traders have been circulating.... it garbles a little during the "scream" in Spank Thru. The difference is that these tracks have been remastered... the majority of the hiss is gone and the noise level has been increased. While it's nothing revolutionary, these tracks are a little crisper than other KAOS versions I have heard. Surprisingly, Suicide Samurai (aka Anorexorcist) might be the best sounding track from the KAOS demos. Love buzz is very early for the band and Kurt repeats the first line twice during the beginning of the song. There appears to be a little editing between some of the tracks, but nothing "important" is missing.
20. More Than A Feeling Jam
21. My Best Friends Girl Tracks twenty and twenty-one are two clips, from 8/30/92 and 3/1/94. The sound quality is quite good. I wonder if Blue Moon has access to the rest of 3/1/94???
22. You've Got No Right (aka Autopilot) This track can be found in the Season in Hell box set and Sermon on the Mount. The quality of this track appears to be a little better than those two sources. It's a nice addition that most discs neglect.
