-- info from CBC:
John Prine is an artist in the strictest story-telling tradition of American folk music. His songs are rich with imagery; transporting the listener to a time and place unfamiliar, yet full of intimate emotion.
In the late 1990's he developed a cancer on his neck that required surgery and removal of a substantial amount of tissue. The surgery caused a change to Prine's voice, lowering his range and adding more grit. He's said with his new voice he's re-discovered some of his old material.
The concert was the closer for the 2010 Edmonton Folk Music Festival. A regular guest of the festival, John Prine had the audience intently drawn into every character in every story he told.
