JOE'S MEMORIES:
"Chicago II" had just come out and "25 or 6 to Four" was everywhere on the radio, so when we heard Chicago would be appearing at the Hampton Beach Casino, we had to take  the opportunity to go. The first Chicago album "Chicago Transit Authority" had come out in 1969 and didn't have any "AM hits" on it, but "Chicago II" was a whole different story. It was a typical hot August day, waiting to get into the Casino, but this crowd was not as "frantic" as the crowd at the Grand Funk Railroad show a month before, so we didn't have to jam in and run for a spot on the floor to sit. Everyone was mellow and orderly getting in. It's not a long show, only about 50 minutes, but this recording gives you the opportunity to hear "early" Chicago, with the original members. it's like a mini "best of" collection. Also I changed tapes before Chicago returned to the stage for the encore of "I'm A Man". They did a great version, that lasted for about 15 minutes, but the switch on the external mic accidentally got turned off about halfway through the song and I didn't notice that the tape had stopped. I didn't think of keeping what I had recorded on that reel and ended up recording over it at another show."
