Bandit999 Presents
The Old Grey Whistle Test Punk Collection Volume Two
Heres another cool collection of OGWT footage, this collection contains a few clips of lower quality than in Volume One, but due to there rarity they have been included. Patti Smith, The Damned 1979, The Damned 1985, and the first 999 track are all really
good quality. The rest are OK with The Rezillos and The second 999 track being the lowest quality, all the clips have pretty good audio which as usual i cleaned up. As a bonus i have added a very rare 3 track performance by X-Ray Spex on USTV in 1978
on a programme called Rock World.

As before every track has a chapter point with some bands having 3 tracks and others having 2 tracks, while Iggy Pop only has 1 track, 20 tracks in all...Another cool addition to your ever growing DVD library of Punk Rock...Fully authored as usual enjoy, your friend Bandit999

01 - Patti Smith - (11th May 1976)
02 - Patti Smith - (4th April 1978)

The Rolling Stones - 1968-1972 - Trident Mixes (STU/FLAC)

(Studio FLAC)

Lineage
Studio -> acetate -> bootleg LP -> PC -> you.  LP -> PC transfer made using Music Hall MMF-7 turntable, Ortofon OM20 cartridge, Adcom GLP-565 preamp, and Roland UA-1G USB analog to digital converter.  Vinyl surface noise was mostly removed using ClickRepair software, but some remains.  Acetates are very fragile and easily damaged.  Other software used included Adobe Audition, CD Wave, and foobar2000.

01. Jiving Sister Fanny (alt. take).
A different take was officially released on "Metamorphosis."

02. I'm Going Down (alt. mix).
Officially released with a different mix on "Metamorphosis."

03. I Don't Know Why (alt. mix).
Officially released with a different mix on "Metamorphosis."  This version is also shorter than on Metamorphosis.

04. Hamburger to Go

05. Downtown Suzie (alt. mix).
Officially released with a different mix on "Metamorphosis."  LP has a skip which I have repaired.

06. Blood Red Wine

07. Travelling Man

08. Family (alt. take).
An alt. take was officially released on "Metamorphosis."  This is the inferior take.

09. Still a Fool.
Five more seconds at the start than VGP's version!

10. Family (alt. mix).
Officially released with a different mix on "Metamorphosis."

11. Leather Jacket (inst.)

12. Dancing in the Light (alt. mix, inst.).
Officially released with ~2010 vocals on "Exile on Main Street (Rarities Edition)."

13. Potted Shrimp (inst.)

14. Aladdin Story (alt. mix, inst.).
Officially released with ~2010 vocals on "Exile on Main Street (Rarities Edition)."  I prefer this one.

15. I Was Just a Country Boy (inst.)

16. Who Am I

17. Trident Jam (inst.)

18. Memo from Turner (bonus track, alt. mix).
Not on the LP but added to fill space here.  A different take was officially released on "Metamorphosis."

Notes:
Between 1968 and 1972 the Rolling Stones recorded numerous songs which were not released at the time.  Some were cut into acetates with "Trident Studios" labels, presumably for band members or other insiders to listen to.  In the late 1970s, a bootleg LP called "Trident Mixes" compiled these acetates.  Sound quality is excellent plus, but the vinyl has lots of surface noise.  Later, the same material was released by VGP as CD1 of "Hillside Blues," and by DAC as "Trident Mixes," using the original LP artwork.  The VGP source is apparently from tape rather than acetate, as there is no surface noise, but the source is hissy in places and sometimes lacking in bass.  DAC uses a different source with no hiss, but incredibly there is some talking in the background, apparently from people playing the acetates while talking too close to the record player!  A few tracks have also appeared in quite good quality from tape sources, not acetate, on "The Black Box," but I prefer these versions over all others.

This is a transfer from an original "Trident Mixes" bootleg LP.

After the Rolling Stones left Decca/London to form their own record label, Decca/London released some of the songs on the 1975 album "Metamorphosis," using different mixes or takes.  None of the songs are exactly the same as the acetate versions.  Mick Jagger added vocals, among other things, to two of the instrumentals and released them on the 2010 album "Exile on Main Street (Rarities Edition)."

Comments:
Very nice 2cd with all the BBC sessions Queen have done. Only one tracks is missing 'The March Of The Black Queen'. But information I have got, is that this track is the same as the album version, that you can't actually heard any different between them. But, I can't confirm this information 100% true. All this BBC versions on this 2cd, sounds all a bit different to the ordinary album versions. The live tracks are from BBC 'In concert' program. Live Golders Green Hippodrome, London Sept. 13th. this is another great cd set of pete townshends home demos for the who, as you can see the years are from 1965 through 1981, this is a very nice run through of petes demos and some of these demos are not on the 6 cd box set called the genius of pete towenshend THAT IS THE ULTIMATE WHO DEMO CD BOX SET, however this 2 cd set is also great if you are a die hard like me as i can hear some of the earlier songs on disc one are not the same demos from the box set and there are a couple on disc 2 that sound different, on disc one i can really hear another version of dogs then on the box set so it is obvious pete had a few versions of each track i am sure, this great 2 cd set is the ultimate for any DIE HARD WHO fan if you want to hear these great classic songs in there beginning foundation form before they explode into who epics, i highly reccomend this and YES this is a factory pressed silver cd from the 90s!!!

Review:
This is a 'must have' CD. Period. Fans of Rolling Thunder will find this first venue of the tour to be electrifyingly fresh and vibrant. Everything was new, mysterious, and exciting. The stunned audience would have to wait two more months for the release of this mystical music on the 'Desire' LP. As the tour wore on, some of the spontaneous edge began to dull with the wear and tear of life on the road. Fans of 'Desire' will thrill to the encore magic captured in Dylan's voice and in Scarlet Rivera's violin. Fans of soundboard recordings will be blown away by the incredible quality. Fans of quality performance will tear up over the majestic tapestry Dylan and the troupe weave on stage. Fans of package aesthetics will be blessed with one of the coolest bootleg covers ever. This Ken Regan photo that speaks a thousand words should have been the 'Desire' album cover. The catchy title, and back full cover Regan photo of Dylan and Ginsberg at Jack Kerouac's grave in Lowell, Massachusetts all help to put this wonderful package way over the top. All seven of the circulating soundboard recordings from Plymouth, and nine primo choice selections from Waterbury; demand to be in every collection.

Release Notes:
There were lots of stops and starts to be found in the 'audience' source tape, as you'll hear. Many of the transitions have been smoothed as best as possible, with an effort not to lose any of the content.

Some overlap containing radio talk in the sources' transitions having been edited out here. The real-time transition between "A Apolitical Blues" and "Cold, Cold, Cold" was actually a few seconds longer and contained a bit more applause, which was unfortunately accompanied by radio talk. In order to make this transition sound smoother between the two very different-sounding sources, the applause/talk was removed. You won't miss it... (Apologies and thankyous to the DJs.)

Thanks so much to all involved in the recording and preservation of this excellent and historic evening!

Comments:
Excellent sound, thru and thru. I believe these tracks were taken from different dates on the '91 'Cover To Cover' tour. It's more of a '91 tour compilation. There are quite a few split second 'flickers' in the audio. I don't know what else to call them. They're barely noticeable. I do find this odd as this is a silver cd boot, so I'd expect production to be a little more professional, but it is what itis. Also, I should mention that the last track, "Freedom '90" fades out at about 5:25.

BBC sound archive mono master > DAT > Amadeus > Flac

In 1998 a recording of Hendrix at Clark University in 1968 was found in the BBC archives after research by an employee at the National Sound Archives in London. This recording was subsequently released by Experience Hendrix on their dagger label. Shortly after the Hendrix had surfaced I asked the contact at the NSA if he had access to any Pink Floyd recordings. He was able to book out and copy the 1970 and 1971 shows to DAT. He later found the complete broadcast of the 1968 Top Gear show which was also transferred to DAT. At that time CDR was still a relatively new format and I sent the two concert DATs to a friend in the States to copy to CDR. The CDRS made it safely back across the Atlantic but the DATs, which had been sent separately, went missing somewhere in transit.

There is nothing new here, all that is new is a fresh transfer from the original CDRs and in the case of the 1968 broadcast, the DAT. This package brings these three mono masters together for the first time.

Between 1978 and 1994 Kate Bush appeared on a variety of BBC programmes including Saturday Night at the Mill, Ask Aspel, the Leo Sayer show and Wogan, as well as Top of the Pops. This compilation showcases her performances of hit songs such as Wuthering Heights, Babooshka, Running up That Hill and Hounds of Love alongside other intriguing and lesser known material in the BBC studios.
