OldNeumanntapr Notes-
This was another recording that I got from Ulrich in Germany. It took me several hours to try and clean this one up. There were all kinds of tracking problems with the original indexes. Someone had duplicated ‘Cumberland Gap’ as the last song of the first disc plus the first song of the second disc, but one of them was six seconds longer. The other had a fade in, so I had to do some cutting and pasting in Audacity. There was weird indexing of stage banter. For instance, there was nine seconds of basically dead air indexed separately. Plus, there was two tracks of consecutive dialog that should have shared the same index. Also, there were a few songs that were grouped together. ’The Johnson Boys’ and ‘The Little Red Lark’ were indexed together, as well as ‘Mercury Smell’ and ’You Done Me Wrong’, and ’Spodie’ and ‘Rag Bag’. I combined all the tracks in Audacity to a single-tack file using the ‘Find Zero Crossings’, then amplified and re-tracked, and also edited out the tape flips from the original cassette master. I also fixed the SBEs in Audacity after tagging the files. I think this recording is a lot more enjoyable now. Mr. Dave was quite talkative and told some funny stories. His playing is always amazing.
