A studio / demo sound collection in the early years of Bruce Springsteen from 1972 to 1973 appeared as a triplet complete edition! Started the 72-year alphabet “John Hammond Tapes”, complete coverage of demonstration sound sources from April 1972 to February 1973. All main sound sources which were once circulated with various titles are gathered without duplication. Starting with “It’s Hard to Be a St. in the City”, which also covered David Bowie, the very second Bob Dylan who mass-produced the original one after another as a song writer A definitive edition collection that summarizes valuable records of Bruce Springsteen, whose talent got a lot of attention as it appeared!

Disc 2 64:55

Country Blues (1) >> Astro Man (5) 10:35
Country Blues (2) 8:29
Country Blues (6) 8:25

this is as much of this session as we have at this point, and sounds about as good as it's going to. as usual, pitch and phase correction were done and removal of a some digital clicks.

session order is not known with certainty, but some guesses can be made. the Ezy Rider/MLK jam/Cherokee Mist jam was placed first since "Sessions" says that Don joined on harmonica partway through the session, and this is the only track we have from the session without harmonica. an alternate mix (with the first 4 min missing) is also included; this is the mix that has jimi talking about a broken string at the end (these vocals were mixed out of the longer version). instruments are also placed differently in this mix.

the Villanova Junction jam is the shorter version. when the longer 27+ minute version starts freely circulating, there's room for that to be substituted in place of the shorter one.

Disc 1 Track 4, "Once I Had a Woman", is the :Blues mix, but runs to the end where the song breaks down (the :Blues version fades before this point). this version is the most complete one we have, but does have about 1 minute edited out of the middle. the old tape version (with start and end cut, running 5:23) starts with this missing minute, so it was also included
as Disc 1 Track 5. it's a different mix so was worth including for that reason too. the horrible overdub-nightmare version from the 1975 release "Midnight Lightning" has 10 seconds or so extra right at the start that the other versions don't, but the overdubs render this virtually unusable.

Blue Suede Shoes has the start from Loose Ends joined on. it actually runs right into the long Freedom Jam/Highway of Desire/$7 in My Pocket track, and the two have been joined together here.

the start of Country Blues seems to follow from the end of $7, although there is some missing so they can't be connected. 3 different mixes of CB are included. the longest has the 2-minute Astro Man instrumental at the end, and is a mix with harmonica. the version with the harmonica mixed out is also included, as is the "dry" mix without the echo effects. there are also shorter edits of the with- and without-harmonica mixes, but they weren't included, nothing really new with them.

official tracks were available as reference for pitch-synching for all tracks except for the VJ jam and the Highway of Desire jam. however, since Blue Suede Shoes connects to the Highway of Desire jam, and Country Blues also probably ran on from that, it was possible to match the pitch of Highway to both of those tracks. that left VJ as the only track without an official pitch-synch reference.

Bob Dylan - 1976 - Guam Rehearsals (STU/FLAC)

(Studio FLAC)

This compilation has shown up here at least several times. Last time, neilyoungson posted this compilation in Sept. '11 and it fell off the tracker on Nov. '12.

I thought, after more than a 2 year absence, it was time to bring it back for those new to the site since then. I checked with Olaf's Files and none of it appears to have been commercially released.

These comments were authored by others: "The track listing is approximate as it is a rehearsal. Sometimes verses (and even phrases) are practiced, so where one track finishes and another starts is fairly arbitrary. There is a female singing backup vocals. It is not Joan Baez so I presume it is Donna Weiss. The versions of Just Like a Woman and Tangled up in Blue are very interesting. They are clearly practicing the version of Tangled that was performed at Ft Collins. It has interesting tempo changes with each verse and Dylan systematically works through each verse to get a rhythm he is happy with. Unfortunately the version of Just Like a Woman (with similar tempo changes) only gets one live performance at Salt Lake City and there is no circulating tape of that show.Exact numbers of takes of particular songs are essentially arbitrary, because Dylan sometimes stopped songs to repeat passages with problems, sometimes completed songs and returned to problem spots. Dylan also occasionally sang, hummed, or played a short portion of the opening of a song before trying a full version; those fragments are not listed separately. This project initially circulated without a specific title."

Some words from BBC website:
Fifty years ago this week, on 1 June, 1967, an album was released that changed music history - The Beatles' Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. In this film, composer Howard Goodall explores just why this album is still seen as so innovative, so revolutionary and so influential. With the help of outtakes and studio conversations between the band, never heard before outside of Abbey Road, Howard gets under the bonnet of Sgt Pepper. He takes the music apart and reassembles it, to show us how it works - and makes surprising connections with the music of the last 1,000 years to do so.
Sgt Pepper came about as a result of a watershed in The Beatles' career. In August 1966, sick of the screaming mayhem of live shows, they'd taken what was then seen as the career-ending decision to stop touring altogether. Instead, beginning that December, they immersed themselves in Abbey Road with their creative partner, producer George Martin, for an unprecedented five months. What they produced didn't need to be recreated live on stage. The Beatles took full advantage of this freedom, turning the studio from a place where a band went to capture its live sound, as quickly as possible, into an audio laboratory, a creative launch pad. As Howard shows, they and George Martin and his team constructed the album sound by sound, layer by layer - a formula that became the norm for just about every rock act who followed.
In June 1967, after what amounted to a press blackout about what they'd been up to, Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band was released. It was a sensation, immediately becoming the soundtrack to the Summer of Love - and one of the best-selling, most critically lauded albums of all time. It confirmed that a 'pop music' album could be an art form, not just a collection of three-minute singles. It's regularly been voted one of the most important and influential records ever released.
In this film, Howard Goodall shows that it is the sheer ambition of Sgt Pepper - in its conception, composition, arrangements and innovative recording techniques - that sets it apart.
Made with unprecedented access to The Beatles' pictorial archive, this is an in-depth exploration, in sound and vision, of one of the most important and far-reaching moments in recent music history.

(CD's)Sgt. Pepper Forever - Parts 1 & 2
Some words from BBC Radio 2's website
Martin Freeman presents Sgt. Pepper Forever, which will reveal the revolutionary studio techniques used during the remarkable sessions dating from November 1966 to April 1967 and also examine the album's huge impact on the history of music. They will feature 'work-in-progress' versions of Sgt. Pepper tracks - and the songs on the double A-side single Strawberry Fields Forever/Penny Lane, which were also recorded during the sessions - to illustrate the pioneering techniques used by The Beatles and George Martin.

This two-part documentary special features interviews with Paul, George, Ringo and George Martin, and in a new interview composer Howard Goodall talks about, and illustrates on piano, the musical innovations of the album's songs.

Having worked with the original four-track tapes to create a new stereo mix of Sgt. Pepper for its 50th anniversary, producer Giles Martin (son of Sir George Martin) describes the innovative recording techniques used at the time and how he approached making his new version.

There will also be interview material with the album cover's co-designer Peter Blake, Beatles press officer Derek Taylor, Tony King (George Martin's assistant in 1967), Mike Leander (the arranger of She's Leaving Home), poet Adrian Mitchell, DJ John Peel and some of the producers and musicians who were influenced by the achievements of the album, including T Bone Burnett, Dave Grohl, Tom Petty, Jimmy Webb and Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys.

Martin Freeman says: "Sgt. Pepper is the most celebrated album by my favourite band. These documentaries will shed light on how The Beatles, with George Martin, created a piece of work that marked a watershed for what a long playing record could be. It's my absolute pleasure to help tell you about it."
