Taper's Comments: The levels are a bit low and with the festive gala crowd, there's a fair amount of background chatter. A remaster would be welcomed by me if someone wants to try to fix this. As is, however, it's very listenable. I have most of the show on HD video and will upload a video torrent soon.

Notes:
Here are some tracks which I´ve collected over the years. Some pretty cool demos in the beginning, but the main part are the home recordings. It´s just Tommy and a guitar from 11-22, and at times it really feels like he´s just sitting right next to you, doodling on. Some of the song structures are easily recognizable, and I have added titles where applicable even though they don´t always sound exactly like they would when recorded with bands.

Brian Eno - Music For The Great Gallery Of Venaria Reale (AUD/FLAC)

(Audience FLAC)

About 1 hour of the recording I did saturday 29-09-2012 visiting the Great Gallery.
you can hear the music and also words and noice from people visiting the installation.
the first half is recorded walking in the Gallery, second half is taped in the dead center of the Gallery.

some interesting images here
http://www.artribune.com/2012/08/brian-eno-in-galleria-alla-venaria-reale/

notes from
http://www.lavenaria.it/web/en/calendar/eventi/details/123-brian-eno-music-for-the-great-gallery.html
The great Brian Eno, the undisputed contemporary master, music theorist, acclaimed producer, the inventor of ambient music and the brilliant innovator of the language of modern music has made a very special gift to the Great Gallery, the 18th century masterpiece by the architect Filippo Juvarra and the symbol of the splendor of Venaria Reale: an original soundtrack.

I started writing “12 Seasons. Music for the Great Gallery” in my studio in London. I had seen pictures and plans of the Reggia di Venaria and I was confident I had found the right approach: I worked for a few weeks on a track that I brought to the Reggia for testing in May 2012.
When I listened to it in the extraordinary context of the Great Gallery, however, I realized that it was not right. What I had composed - in my studio in London, wrapped up in England’s grey climate - was introspective and somewhat dark. There was not doubt in my mind that it was an “interior” track. What is most striking about the Great Gallery - and you realise as much only when you step into it - is that it is soaked in light and space: nothing further from an “interior” feeling. Juvarra had designed it to invite the world to get in, so it seemed appropriate that music should exist inside as well as outside of space, almost like a cloud or an atmosphere that would envelop the construction from the outside.
Conceptually, this music is similar to other works I did around forty years ago (e.g., Discreet Music, 1975). I am still deeply fascinated by the range of transformations that are possible starting with a limited “stock” of original notes, and this piece is a perfect example in this sense. Nevertheless, there is also a new starting point. Building on the Reggia’s “classical” imprint, I wanted to make sure that the track was made up of several “movements” rather than a single block. Thus only 4 or 5 or 6 of the original 7 sounds I had decided to work with will eventually be used in each section. This means that the emotional quality of each section is slightly different, and as it progresses, the piece evolves and takes on different overtones.
I love the Great Gallery of La Venaria, it is a sort of secular cathedral, and I hope that my music will encourage more people to spend time in the Gallery than it is normally the case. Brian Eno

12 Seasons. Music for the Great Gallery of the Palace of Venaria, in its final version, is made up of two 1-hour tracks consisting of 12 sections each.
Only four speakers are in place, two at the entrance and two at the end of the Gallery, all facing the center of the hall. Visitors walking down the Gallery are wrapped into two distincts sound flows: as they approach the center of the hall, echoes of the sounds behind turn into a memory that blend in the soft reverberations of the sounds that lay ahead.
The two movements that are complete when they meet at the heart of the Gallery. The sound tracks are made of melodic cores that are sketched and whispered, with the warmer sound of real violins in place of samplings. Pauses and silences play with the peculiar reverberation effect. The sounds are remarkably persistent before dissolving into the space, each engaged in a potentially endless chase, floating in the air, altering the perception of the Great Gallery, expanding its volumes and filling it with a different light.

Music thus becomes an “essential constituent” of the Gallery, like a color, a scent, almost a newly crafted decoration - after the ones designed by the architects Juvarra and Alfieri. Music as a complement to space".

Additional javichun notes.
Thanks to soulcrusaders and pesadilla for taping the show, it was a pity I couldn't be there finally. They took some quick lessons on how to set up the equipment and they did a wonderful job. It was a rainy day in Donosti, so they had to protect the equipment so it didn't get wet, plus they were seating not in a great spot so the sound on the original recording came a little distant. René did a great job improving the sound of the recording, and making it sound more upfront. I am really glad with the results, and I hope you will be too.

Notes by the taper:
Taped in a very central position, in the audience about 25 feet away from the center of the stage, in equidistant position from the loudspeakers. I think I can say that the recording is good, with sound quite stable and well balanced. There is an only problem with the volume and stability of the sound that starts after 2 minutes of 'Love Song' and ends about 1 minute 'Celebrate'. Nothing particularly annoying, anyway, at least in my opinion. Clapping and talking are limited, the first lasts for the first four or five songs and the second one is almost absent. The concert is complete no cuts or missing parts.

Notes:
This gig was one to remember, without a doubt. None of my friends like this guy. In fact, one even said that he was not interested in seeing a guy wank over his guitar. He was right. It was the usual Yngwie masturbating all over his guitar but you know what? It's the one time I can handle watching a guy masturbate! I expected it. I bought the ticket anyway, knowing this was going to be one wankfest I would actually enjoy and I definitely enjoyed it.

Sure Yngwie's soloing is self-indulgent and at times a bit too much, lacking musical depth to some but I seem to absorb its musical energy and feed it back out on my drum kit. I'm not sure what it is exactly. Perhaps it's my penchant for classical music in a rock setting and I am just a drummer at the end of the day!

Yngwie and his bandmates really set the stage on fire that night and from the mighty vocals of Doogie to the thundering metronomic precision of Jens, there was nothing I could possibly fault the band for. It was good solid neo-classical rock at its finest. I heard where Symphony X's Micahel Romeo got his influences from (another favourite band of mine) and perhaps that made me enjoy it all the more.

A long and gruelling tour didn't stop these guys from giving it their all. I'm sure you'll hear that for yourself.

On to the technical stuff, I'm not terribly impressed with this one given my location. My ticket purchasing skills back then left a lot to be desired. Furthermore, I'm not even sure if I ever did release this one but I did recently listen back to the master CD I engineered and I must admit, I was appalled with myself at the result. So, I was inspired to right the wrong by remastering this recording. Good thing I always keep the originals otherwise this never would have been salvageable!

So, having wound up at the far right, the best I could hope for was a decent mono mix from the PA. Thankfully, the sound guy did a mono mix. Unfortunately, it was far from a good mix. The main hi-hats are just way too bright and cutting, the midrange was a bit excessive from the guitars (perhaps at Yngwie's request) but lacking top-end, the vocals were reasonable though sometimes getting lost in the mix, the bass guitar lacked definition and Derek's keyboards were sometimes a little too bright depending on the patch used.

It was painful but I had to come to a compromise with the sound in order to get a better overall result. This one gets a C. Listen to the sample and be your own judge is all I can really say.

Notes by the uplaoder
I've always thought that supertramp were more brilliant and elaborate than many allegedly progressive groups, hence the labelling under "progressive rock" category, as this is by all accounts a Supertramp greatest hits. A great selection of great songs, really, from the ballads to the epics. And his voice it's still the same. WARNING: in italian radio customes the DJ speaks a lot in-between songs. And I mean a lot.. His/Her purpose is to introduce songs with bits of bio and translate what the artists say, or to describe to radio listeners what's happening on stage. It may gets VERY annoying, and trust me it does, thus we might consider this recording ONLY FOR COMPLETISTS. But the songs, the actual music, are (usually) not spoken over in the middle of them. It has to be noted that italian djs are on the whole adviced to talk that much by the same record companies to prevent bootlegging.

At the start of the encore, a drunk guy next to me started throwing punches to a stranger. Apparently he didn't like him carrying an umbrella. Considering there were hundreds of umbrellas, maybe he decided that the last song was a good time to go after 'em one by one? I stopped him and gave him a silent death stare. Which luckily was enough to make him retreat.

NOTE:
*track 13 is cut unfortunately due to disconnecting my mics while I was protecting against the setting rain. Its not a perfect recording as everything came across like a late arrival at the venue, not a good place to tape and some more but won't complain too much. This may help out till a better recording may pop up hopefully very soon. At least it was a wonderful show at a beautiful venue with a great setlist. It was great to see Bob's new hobby playing the Grand Piano.

Notes by the uploader
I recorded this straight off the radio using a Sony-STR-Dh820 mutichannel a/v receiver, which was plugged into my laptop. I think i possibly had the volume levels a bit too high for my tastes during the recording Not loud enough to cause distortion or ruin the recording, but loud enough where you might not have to turn the volume up too high to hear it in your car or on your headphones. I'll let you be the judge. Otherwise, I think It sounds Great! I made the recording itself using audacity 2.0, split the tracks using wave splitter ver. 2.10, and finally used traders little helper to create the flacs. Enjoy!
