Notes:
The Flatlanders are celebrating the 40th anniversary of their first record with a summer tour and the release of a batch of demos recorded in Odessa, Texas, back then. Joe said the name of the record will be "The Odessa Tapes." This show at the Moody (where Austin City Limits is now taped) served as sort of a promo gig. There are a couple of early-band gems that made the gig for Ol' Mike: "Rose From The Mountain". from the first record, and "I Know You" from the 1972 live record. There's a house feedback squeal on "Hopes" and there were several mic/disc glitches that joeyjay had to edit out. Most are seamless, but there's a missing line in "The Highway Is My Home" - that had to come out, unfortunately. Other than that, the sound is pretty damn good, and so is the show. Go see The Flatlanders on tour this summer. As always, all thanks to Joe, Jimmie Dale, Butch and all the extended musical family for all the great nights of memories and tunes. Continued thanks to The Coin for the surrogate mics.
