The original line-up’s last UK tour was in support of the 10 album. I saw them several times on this stint and thought it was always an amazing gig! They were to lose Hugh Cornwell by August, but this is probably the ultimate document of this era. A tight and energetic show they clearly are having fun and are at the top of their game. They were recording every show they did after being put in prison in 1980 in Nice, France, owing to comments allegedly made by bass player JJ Burnel. Being free spirits who didn’t buy corporate bullshit they were always one comment away from controversy. This is why I love them. So luckily for us, a few of these tapes has found thee way into fans’ hands and this is one of the best. This is a great recording. All the effects and left / right panning you’d hear at the gig are present. The band did release a lot of tracks from this tour as B-sides and extras and I suspect a professional got their hands on this before I did. It’s a medium generation tape, ripped and mastered at 24bit/96k. Finalized as 16 bit/44k FLACs

Source: FM radio broadcast. This is a really good recording from the Dreamtime tour but it's marred by several gaps and cuts. Hugh has some great banter between songs but there's also a radio host who talks too much, but with so many songs it's well worth the download IMO. I shortened a couple of gaps and removed a Jefferson Airplane song from Hugh's interview. Otherwise this is how I received it from a friend in the '90s.

This is a great recording of The Stranglers at the cusp of their career, just before Golden Brown went global and saved their bacon. They had just had a commercial disaster with the Gospel According to the Meninblack album and had no choice but to go back to the studio in the summer of that year; they quickly released a second LP in 1981. More upbeat, but no less eclectic, La Folie is a gem of a record... and little did they know at the time of this gig how huge that first single would be. This is a favouritr period of mine and this tape does the band justice. Sit back and enjoy!

An edited radio show of this gig has been around for what seems like ever… It was great quality, but marred by an edit to their great epic Sewer, which saw eight minutes reduced to three! 

A few years ago a collector handed me a cassette with missing tracks from the radio show… including a full Down In The Sewer. 

I have patched up the gig to completeness using the magic of Adobe Audition. 

I used the version of the radio show that came with this cassette for the first half mixing in the missing/extended tracks to make it a uniform listening experience, then topping off the last seven tracks with the highest quality version I had. A true Frankenstein's Monster! 

The "missing/extended" tracks (denoted *) were from a different source altogether, and there are no notes indicating where they came from (another broadcast perhaps)?

This is an astounding soundboard document of The Stranglers at their visceral best on the No More Heroes tour of late 1977. I have had to remove one track and some of the banter which was officially released on ‘Live X Certs’. None of the other tracks here were used on that LP or have been officially released. This is taken from a second or third generation copy of a tape which had already been mixed by EMI. There was some drop-outs here and there and I had to fix these as best I could in Audition… but overall this is a great reminder of what a great band they are.
