This show was recently uploaded by Diamond Dog back in September, this gave me the opportunity to compare it to my recording and see what could be done to improve it.
I felt this worthwhile as this is probably one of the best quality audience recordings from this tour.

The result is this upload, the first half of the show is from my tape as I felt it had less distortion and a brighter sound (and a couple of extra minutes of Station to Station), the second half is from DD's original upload as my tape had more drop outs and breaks in the recording.
The two parts have been spliced together and cleaned, resulting in the removal of over 80% of the overdriven distortion. The massive drop out at the end of Rebel Rebel-Jean Genie is still very evident, I've done what I can to improve it but creating something from nothing is nigh on impossible.

Nineteen years after his first visit to Estival (some of you may have the 1985 show which was torrented here a while back), Bobby eventually came back with his vocal orchestra.
Not much to add really, if you like acapella, this is one of the best I ever heard in the genre.
Bobby shows his ability both as singer (check out his intro to song three for instance) and as a conductor.
And Voicestra are not only doing harmony. Hear the solos by Rhiannon on the last track of cd one, or Sussan Deyhim on the opening track of disc two, and judge for yourself!

* tracks: XYZ session feat. Chris Squire, Alan White & Jimmy Page, april 1981
+ tracks: Cinema rehearsals, 1982

About the remaster: Each side of tape individually speed corrected. Tape problems and microphone bumps removed. Audience chatter removed. Small silence gap on Yours Is No Disgrace crossfaded with another show (from the same week). Silence gap on Roundabout crossfaded with the same section from later in the song. Volume normalization.
XYZ tracks: speed correction and bass frequencies reduced.

This is the only show from the Drama Tour on my collection. I received it on cdr several years ago. It sounded great, but there were lots of things to improve. I made a remastered version with its own cover art and bonus tracks. Hope you like it, highly recommended!!

The Police - 1980-11-15 - Mexico City, MX (DVDfull pro-shot)

(DVDfull pro-shot)

Quote from Andy Summers:
"We played in a strange place. It was in a sort of a new hotel and we played on the 20th floor. It was very expensive to get in. We played on a very sort of dangerous stage. It was falling apart as we played. Everyone went so crazy. We thought the whole stage would fall apart. It was good fun."

02 - Driven to Tears
03 - So Lonely
04 - Roxanne
05 - De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da
06 - Truth Hits Everybody
07 - Message in a Bottle

This was taped from a local TV station back in the 80's.  The film is a bit dark but the quality is very reasonable considering when this took place.   This is quite a document as Mexico did not get to see any big international bands play locally back then.  It was until the late 90's that international acts began playing in Mexico so the fact that The Police played there at the time was a very significant moment in Mexico's rock concert history.  People who attended the concert say that the audience was wearing tuxedos as this was considered to be a "gala event".

Notes:
Fresh high quality lossless transfer of a very low generation VHS copy (provided by Limulus). This is one of 2 April '92 shows that surfaced on VHS back in the day (the other is Oklahoma on April 6th), professionally filmed to be used on the screens at the side of the stage. They were supposedly stolen from GNR's video crew. This show is unfortunately incomplete, the last song 'Paradise City' cuts out after about a minute. I've patched in the missing bit from the complete audience recording, for people who would like to have this show in full. I left 'Paradise City' as two seperate tracks that have a seamless transition, so if you only want the soundboard audio, you can skip the last two tracks. There's several quality DVD transfers of this show, but to my knowledge they all have lossy audio. Transfers of the SBD audio off VHS tapes of this show have done the rounds before, but this one sounds, well, better ... Enjoy one of the longest shows on the UYI tour (look at that setlist !), just over 3 hours, when GNR was still GNR !

One of the earliest live recordings of the band, still known then as The High Numbers, the date and venue was finally cleared up with the release of the Anyway Anyhow Anywhere book after it had been previously attributed to the Marquee Club. It's a very rare glimpse from the period when they played primarily rhythm and blues covers and not original material.
