Administration & Liners:
Tree administration for this tree was by the legendary Linda Beatty! Two sets of jewel case liners were created for this collection.

Notes:
A year to remember, 1999 was full of stellar performances. Over the past few months, the cream of the crop has been carefully selected and preserved by a generous fellow fan. Every track is a highlight! Selections include fantastic versions of such classics as All In The Game, And The Healing Has Begun, and Ain't Nothin' You Can Do... Cheltenham's smokin' Muleskinner Blues, and the show-stopping Help Me from Jones Beach. In all, over two hours of incredible listening.

Notes from Wooda:
QUALITY: What can I say about this show except that it smokes all other versions you will find. Unlike "The Eyes Of Night", this show is complete and not spliced together from other club days shows, and the sound is amazing. The other little problem is that the date and location have been reported wrong for years. The show was played on Saturday May 29th, 1976 and not Sunday May 30th, 1976 which has is the incorrectly circulated date.

NOTES: They play an extremely energetic set, and even hint about hearing the day we would all hear their songs on the radio. This is a must have show.

Comments:
Sometime in the early days of Dime, I converted my DAT recording (acquired in trade, so I don't know the lineage) of Jimmy Page & Robert Plant's Boston show from the "Walking Into Clarksdale" tour. Very little is known in terms of the origins of this recording -- rumors were that this is an in-house Assistive Listening Device (ALD) broadcast that was used at Great Woods around this time, and this is borne out by the fact that there are several other "soundboards" of similar fidelity floating around from this period by other bands. Apparently it made the rounds online and one industrious downloader ("caddy72") discovered that the sound quality could be dramatically improved by reversing the polarity of one of the channels. I personally don't have a clue what this means in technical terms, but apparently it's a common phenomenon with many ALD recordings that the polarity is somehow reversed in the process of broadcast.

Total running time [2:45:50]

WAV 16-bit 1.63 GB
FLAC 16-bit 940 MB

Tape story:
The venue is the main arena in Bologna (actually Casalecchio di Reno) formerly known as Futurshow Station and PalaMalaguti I had a seat at the left of the first level gallery in front of the stage at about 60 m from it Very quite people around me (except for the third encore, of course...) The sound of the recording is excellent Several late arrivers with seats in my raw passed in front of me during Closedown, others left their seats during the first encore break and came back during At Night, resulting in temporary muffled sound in both tracks (30+10 secs)

What about the show?
It was my fourth The Cure show (the others were all in the Milan area in 1992, 2008 and 2012; 2008 and 2012 were also taped) A very enjoyable concert with an excellent screen and light show quite uncommon for The Cure A possible "setlist of my dreams" with the "Seventeen Seconds encore", Charlotte Sometimes and also IOTWCS debuting in the European Leg of the 2016 Tour (neglecting 7 pre-1982 tracks!!!... never in this leg) Happy Birthday to Roger was sung at the end of the first encore break

Technical notes:
- The total running time of the recording was 2:47:06; I have cut the first 52 secs and last useless 24 secs reducing the master to 2:45:50.
- I have amplified (+5.5 dB on the left channel, +4.5 dB on the right channel) and slightly compressed (-12 dB/1.5:1) the whole recording and faded-out the last 10 secs
- If you burn to audio CD, you will need 3 CDs (CD1: 01-13; CD2: 14-25; CD3: 26-36)

Notes: Here's a really good show worthy of your collection, for a couple of reasons. One, Joe brought old friend Joel along for this "duo" gig ... it was good to see/hear them together again in Big D. Secondly, Joe was coming off "a rough couple of weeks" that Ol' Mike has understood to include personal loss. Live music, the great healer. The setlist leaned heavily on West Texas touchstones. Though we've heard these tunes scores of times, some seemed to carry more weight this night. Ol' Mike would even say Joe's spirit was rallied by the cathartic edge inherent in some songs and by the enthusiastic love from the crowd. Give a close listen as he sings "Live Forever" ... Joe's voice occasionally catching, or trailing off as he turns his head away from the mic (and crowd). Well, imagined or not, that gave Ol' Mike the chills - that's his story and he's sticking to it. Sound is great, especially through headphones. Of course, thanks go to Joe (and Joel) for all those golden nights of music and memories for us. Also kudos to Dallas live music icon Poor David for bringing in all the quality artists for lo these many decades, including Joe every year since 1984, in an intimate venue. Continued thanks to The Coin for the now-retired surrogate mics and to D. Ortiz (working forwardly to see his way off the DL) for the current loaners.

Comments:
This recording has circulated in the snail-mail trading pool since the late 1980s, but this posting (originally shared by "jacksontomthumb" in March 2009) was the first one I remember seeing of known lineage. This show features EC during his brief Australian tour in spring 1975; the 1974-75 dates were notably erratic due to Clapton's "substance issues," and this one appears to be no exception. I always find these shows worthwhile because they feature Clapton at both his highest and lowest -- often within the same song. His guitar work was often spectacular on these dates, but frequently the performances got sloppy and meandering; I don't remember enough from this tour to be able to comment on how this one compares to the rest of the tour. If you're a Clapton fan, they're all worth grabbing because they are always fascinating.

The recording quality is pretty good -- obviously the master is a well-worn analog and prone to limitations in fidelity, but it's quite listenable and has a minimum of hiss or dropouts. The mix is decent, although it would probably benefit from some 21st century EQ work to improve the overall sound. If you're a Clapton collector and don't have this, you will probably find this well worth picking up.

This set donated by Phil Monnier is an outstanding early Dylan (61/62) compilation. This set includes tracks from The Oscar Brand interview (10-29-61), Carnegie Chapter Hall (11-04-61), Bonnie Beacher's Apartment (12-22-61), and the Leeds Demo (Feb. 62). The 11-04-61 and 12-22-61 shows are serious improvements from what most Dylan traders have access to. Phil speculates that only a handful of traders around the world have these shows in this quality.
It is an unbelievable set. Another dylantree essential!

From Phil...
"The main purpose of this cd compilation is to give Dylan newbies excellent sounding early soundboard material. Both 12-22-61 and 11-04-61 are tremendous upgrades to anything that has been released on boot over the years."

This set isn't just for newbies! The 12/22 and 11/04 sets are an incredible improvement.

Remaster Additional Info.
This is a gorgeous remastering of the Dylantree Early Dylan set. As you may know, the dylantree version was flawed with "digital fuzz" in many places, particularly on the Beacher tapes sections. The fuzz is gone on the bprm. Other annoying extraneous noises have been removed, as well as overlong dead spaces between tracks. No EQ changes have been made to the original sound of the recordings. Levels have been normalized to match up the varying sources. The overall effect is to turn the Dylantree product into a two disc WOW! rather than a choppy collection of moldy old stuff. It's never sounded better. Steve Wilkison has done a wonderful job with this set. I consider it well worth getting, even if you have the original dylantree set. Here is an additional comment from Steve: "I spent the better part of two days remastering the "Early Dylan" set because it literally contained well over 1,000 separate digital glitches." Turly a labor of love
