Comments: This time in Denmark and I had a great time there. But I'm even today a little bitter because I hade a very good ticket in front of the stage but because of brain damage (alcohol) and lack of information I stood a way back in the arena (mixer table). The recording is 3 pieces. First 20 minutes was recording to low (adjusted in the release)… second part (16 min) is from HP's recording in Landgraaf (fixed to fit the volume) two days before because of flickering fingers that put the internal mikes on. From “Wish you were here” it went well and the second disk I’m pleased with.

Here's the well-known Lust For Life special that was transmitted by the VPRO end 1986. This 43 mins special includes live material from Utrecht 1986 as well interviews with Iggy,
Ron (the Stooges) and some other/older bits & pieces here & there. Iggy is fun to be interviewed. All interviews were done by Marcel Vanthilt (ex-Arbeid Adelt, ex-MTV Europe VJ)

Some words borrowed from
The Stooges were performing punk even before it existed.
They might have had limited commercial success but they were one of the first to take up the two-to-three chord system that later became the mark of punk rockers the Sex Pistols and the Ramones. Later, despite poor sales, lead singer Iggy Pop’s solo albums would be cited as influences by the likes of Siouxsie and the Banshees and Nine Inch Nails.
During Iggy Pop: Lust For Life, filmed in 1986 during the release of Iggy Pop’s Blah Blah Blah album, the rocker credited with inventing the stage dive discusses the differences within The Stooges and how he was blown away by the electric blues of Chicago. In interviews, guitarist Ron Asheton, who sadly died in 2009, reveals how heroin broke up the band and his relationship with Iggy, a master showman who pushed the boundaries of performance with his onstage self-mutilation and nudity.

This was the first show of the "Full Circle" tour, the last tour they did before disbanding, which concluded at the Hollywood Bowl in September that year. Of course they have reunited many times since then, but I guess we should consider this as the last tour.

Believe it or not, I much prefer this tour and album than the Jim Morrison ones. Here the band was somehow on a creative peak, mixing rock, blues, a bit of jazz and funk. A great blend of music. Verdillac is such a great listen!

Incredibly there are no shows currently on DIME with the post-Morrison line-up. Hope I have filled the gap. This is a nice radio broadcast from WGLD in Chicago. Good listen, shortie but goodie. I guess a good companion to the Beat Club footage from the same year that you can find on youtube.

Bootleg Title: Blues At Midnight (Midnight Beat MB CD 037)
File Size: 341 MB (SHN)

Alt. Source original info:
This is the most complete version of this jam that I've been able to find.
It was bootlegged in the 90s (i think) but that release, although sounding a bit better, was not as complete as this torrent. There's some great playing from all the musicians involved here, and as you can see below this isnt the Experience, its Jimi and friends playing at a jamsession at the Cafe Au Go Go in NYC. I think this is one of the sessions that Jimi recorded himself on his reel2reel as he had the habit of doing around that time. Its a Stereo Soundboard recording but it doesnt sound as clear in some places as i would like it to sound,
nevertheless a more complete version than on any bootleg. audio: Jimi on (2-5), with Paul Butterfield on harmonica, Elvin Bishop on guitar, Harvey Brooks on bass, Herbie Rich on organ, Buddy Miles on drums, Phillip Wilson on drums and a certain Jack (James Tatum) on sax, stereo soundboard recording; 80.39 minutes, excellent quality

Remastering info:
Remastering preformed on both sources with Wavelab 5.0 and plugins. All patches preformed with cross fades and overlapping. Most of the hiss on both sources was removed without using noise reduction.
On both sources the vocal levels are low through out. Both sources were tracked diffrently which made it more difficult to figure when tracks went where. I used the setlist above because it was found in more places on the net. Plus D01t08(Jam II "Drunk Again" at the end of the track it sounds like they say "good night folks".
D01t01(Little Wing) thru D01t06(Stormy Monday) the Main Source was used. D01t01(Little Wing) both sources cut/fade out @ 9:13. D01t02(Everything's Gonna Be Alright)
Fades in on both sources. D01t03(Three Little Bears Part 1) Fades in on both sources, digital pop @ 9:59 on both channels removed.
D01t04(Three Little Bears Part 2) Main Source Fades out @ 6:15, Alt.
Source was used to patch from 6:15 thru 6:24, Alt. Source cuts off @ 6:24. D02t02(Stormy Monday) both sources fade in at the same spot.
D02t03(Jam I) and D02t04(Jam II "Drunk Again"Alt. source was used,
levels raise and drop through out both tracks. D01t07(Jam I) drop out on both channels @ 00:15 and 00:45 removed.

JEMS is pleased to revisit the JF Archive and release another title in the Van Morrison Lost California Performances series. For further details and backstory on JF, his tapes and the extraordinary lost Van performances from 1975, please refer to the notes in Vol.

The Santa Barbara set is the last of five shows in but three days time recorded by JF. Though it seems odd now, the show took place in the afternoon. It is a relatively short set but oh so sweet, with Morrison’s vocals at the apex of an arc of passion that started at the first show of the run in Irvine two days earlier. The set list retains “Blue Money” from Riverside and restores “Sweet Mary Blues” from Irvine along with more familiar inclusions from this leg of the tour.

Here’s what JF recalls about the Santa Barbara show, which is his favorite of the five:

“The County Bowl back in the 1970s was not at all what it is today. Back then, you drove up a dusty driveway and parked in a bunch of dirt. You trudged up a dusty path to the bowl where, if you had lawn tickets, you got to take up position on a grassy incline in front of the stage. That’s where we had tickets on this day. I’m pretty sure my friend Steve joined Laura Greenwood and me that day, and we stretched out our blanket about 2/3 of the way back to the brick wall which separated our section from a large section with seats. We were about halfway between center stage and the right bank of speakers. It was all very casual and natural. The setting in the woods over Santa Barbara was every bit as beautiful, if less groomed, than it is now.

I have always loved this recording. It has a slightly boomy, low-fi clarity that I find irresistible. You can almost feel the heat of the summer afternoon in the sound captured on tape. Being an outdoor venue, of course, there was none of the echo or trapped sound you got in indoor halls. Once again, Van was stretching the musical horizons of us kids.”

The higher quality of the Riverside recordings is not only preserved in Santa Barbara but the recording sounds closer to the action while still capturing the atmosphere of the distinctive setting. Samples provided.

Van’s band for the 1975 tour was: John Blakely on guitar; Mark T. Jordan on keyboards; David Hayes on Bass; and Tony Dey on drums. Tom Scott and the L.A. Express was the opening act on this day.

Thanks to JF, who reached out on DIME (you could be next!) and offered us his archive, which had been sitting in boxes, 6000 miles away from where he lives today, for 20+ years. Like so many early tapers, he had great stories to tell and the memories flooded back as we sorted through tapes. We are pleased to be able to bring his work to all of you. Please let him know through your comments that you are, too.

We also appreciate the unnamed Van collectors for helping to get JF’s masters back in his control. Lastly, special thanks mjk5510, who continues serve as JEMS’ post-production and quality-control supervisor. He is essential to our process and we couldn’t do it without him.

Santa Barbara is the last of JF’s 1975 recordings and the final chapter in the 40th Anniversary Lost California Performances cycle. What a run it has been. But fear not, the JF Archive will continue and in 2016 we are pleased to announce we’ll be presenting nine more of JF’s Van Morrison master tapes from 1973-74.

This was kindly sent to me by stingon after I had asked about 2005 Sting shows with Josh Freese on drums. I think it's a great listen, so I decided to share it here (with stingon's permission). I can't be sure if this was seeded on dime or on some other tracker the first time around, but I labelled this as a reseed anyway.

Great "The Bed's Too Big Without You". I also liked how this show from early in the tour still includes a full version of "The Soul Cages" and also "She's Too Good For Me".

Notes by ldb:
the excellent version from Hugin33 had "Someone, Somewhere (In Summertime)" missing. I retrieved it from last night's broadcast on italian radio

Track 11 from RAI broadcast on December 28, 2015 with the following lineage:

RAI Radio Uno > Onkyo TX-8511 FM tuner > HD > Sound Forge 7.0 > CD Wave Editor > FLAC Frontend (level 6)

you won't hear the difference between the two sources unless you know it. I could insert smoothly the missing song in the correct setlist order. Now you have the complete show from start to finish. I could not use the italian broadcast for the full show because the DJs spoke a lot during the songs, but at least I could extract one track and eliminate the talks.
