Comments:
This is an nearly complete (roughly 100 minutes) show from the Stones' "40 Licks" tour swing through the far east in early 2003; this is the soundtrack to a regional TV broadcast.

Sound quality is good -- a clear, solid soundboard recording that is either mono or a weak stereo mix. Mick's vocals are upfront where they should be, and Keith and Ron are equally balanced in the mix. The horns and supplemental band members kind of get lost in the wall of sound, but the primary band members can be clearly heard.

The gig was very private, tickets weren't sold to the general public and most of the Stones fans living in London had no idea that it was taking place. The performances tend to have a loose, casual, informal quality. The Stones treated their Marquee Club appearance like an after-hours jam session, and a healthy sense of fun prevails on "Satisfaction," "Midnight Rambler," "Brown Sugar," and other favorites.

It appears that RSVP remastered the audio from another soundboard source and replaced the original soundtrack; if this is the case, the sync is near-perfect. Picture quality is great, and this is a very compelling, professional multi-cam production. Definitely one that even casual collectors can enjoy.

In terms of setlist, this features a nice mix of material they played across the "Bigger Bang" tour. Several tracks from the new album, a few lightly played chestnuts like "As Tears Go By," real rarities like "Sway" and "She's So Cold," and of course the jukebox of classics they trot out to please the masses. Performance, as usual, is top-notch.

Notes: This is a recording of the second of two nights of the Stones' performance in Mexico City on their 2015-2016 greatest-hits tour. In terms of the performance, it's remarkable to me that this band is still so entertaining live well into their sixth decade of touring. Granted, they have a top-notch touring band, but even the core members are still performing at a high level. Mick is still nailing the tough notes while performing a physically demanding set even at his advanced age. As with the other dates of this tour, this is a well-oiled production of a selection of their greatest hits. 

The sound quality is, in a word, stunning. Apparently this draws from multiple IEM sources as well as at least one audience recording, and the mix is nearly perfect. It's hard to imagine a pure soundboard surprassing this in terms of sound quality. For a label that has come out of nowhere in the last couple of years, Xavel has hit this one out of the park again. 

If you are a Stones fan of any era, this one (as well as the other Mexico City date which will follow shortly) is essential. Even though the setlist doesn't have any surprises, the sound quality and performance alone make this one a keeper.

"Unreleased album planned as follow-up to ?Hot Rocks? (1972). The project was cancelled due to disagreements between Andrew Oldham and Allen Klein about the eclectic track selection; which included controversial songs such as "Andrew's Blues" and "Pay Your Dues" (alternate version to "Street Fighting Man"). It was replaced with the more conservative double album "More Hot Rocks". Album was produced by Andrew Oldham. Digitally remastered 2002 from original vinyl source. A faithful reproduction of the prototype concept and recording. This record is the pre-curser to the "Black Box" concept that was revived in 1975, and would ultimately culminate into "Metamorphosis." A lot of thought was put into retrospective recordings by ABKCO in the early to mid-Seventies. Sound Quality - Excellent Studio Recordings. Some acetate surface noise heard at intros & outros. Upgraded clear stereo sound on many older outtakes that have surfaced over the years, such as Pay Your Dues."

This is not the VGP or the Mecca release. I've bought this - beautiful - digipack CD 2 or 3 years before the VGP version came out.
