notes by the trader
I picked this up at a record show in Dallas, TX along with a couple of others. I did not see it posted, but I saw a discussion on it at the link provided below. I doubt it is anything new, but I thought I would rip it and share it for the collectors that want all things Pink Floyd.

Comment from Lazenby on page 5:
"One Of These Days" 1 and 2 are the standard demos with Nick's voice looping. "Shine On" is only parts 1-5 I believe, and cuts in cold midway through the intro. If it's a rough mix (it sounds like it's from an old cassette) then it's between the Extraction and final mixes; the unused elements are no longer intact.

"Moonhead" sounds nice here, probably the cleanest I've heard, though there is a bad tape glitch at one point.

The "Echoes" demo just sounds like the Meddle version folded to mono, with noticeable distortion and jumps where material is missing. (The jumps make me think it's from an acetate.)

Nice Show from Bob. I finally got to see a show with Desolation Row in it. I am so glad he added some older stuff back into the set. There were some talkers to my right throughout the show. Not sure why people come to show just to spend the night talking about their BS.

Iggy was in great form. About 20 000 people attended; most of them managed to keep away from the mic :-) There's some general audience noise and a brief talking head appearance on two songs, and the sound is a bit "veiled" occasionally, but it's a pretty good, not great recording. Check the samples!

Very good to excellent audience recording. I was chasing my levels a bit at the start of the show and did my best to even this out in the remastering. Anyone that has seen this show (and who hasn't?) knows that the volume level varies quite widely and my meters were anywhere from -30 dB to -2 dB. Again, I did my best to bring up the quiet parts while avoiding clipping during the remastering.

22 Running Wild

JEMS has seen and recorded Ferry and Roxy Music going back to 1976, the most recent being a fine 2011 set at the Beacon in NYC that we posted shortly after the show. This night was one of those weird ones where the recorded performance is better than the in-person one. Something felt a little rushed as I watched it unfold, and as much as I appreciated the crack young band (especially drummer Cherisse Osei) and how willing Bryan was to give them the spotlight (he quite literally sat out of it, stage left, on keyboards for at least half the show), the show only resonated deeply in a few moments, notably "Same Old Blues," "If There Is Something," "Virginia Plain" and a song I've been waiting since 1983 to hear again in concert, "Take a Chance With Me."

But the recorded document is quite forgiving. While "More Than This" is inexplicably less than a minute snippet, many of the performances are hard to argue with upon further review. Bryan's vocals aren't as upfront as one might like, but fifth row seats delivered a nice, up-close recording. Samples provided.

There are, however, a few caveats. That bane of all tapers, Wolf Whistle Guy, was seated directly behind me, and he lets his piercing note loose multiple times across the set. I tamed some of them with isotope RX, but artifacts remain. He was also the kind of jackhole who feels the need to narrate the performance, at full volume, for those seated next to him. There wasn't much I could do about that. There are also two brief instances where this otherwise wide stereo recording is crushed to mono, to mask a conversation directly into the mic.

While all that is annoying as fuck, it still doesn't detract from a fine snapshot of Bryan Ferry circa 2014. JEMS was also on hand for Bryan's Seattle date a week earlier, but a speeding ticket caused us to miss the first several songs of the show. I've pulled the two variants, "Prairie Rose" and "Running Wild," and added them as bonus tracks.

I'm very satisfied with the sounding on this one. To take shelter from the wind, I choose a place next to the stage, 4-5 row front of Kevin Amrstrong. It results a good band stage sounding. Very enthusiastic people around me, talkers, clappers, whistler (Remove the sound button from your phones when you take pics) ; most to hear on the "popular" iggy songs, but it's ok in my opinion, it's a motherfuck** iggy show. "Meet me at the coffee shop We can dance like Iggy Pop" Iggy do one stage diving (right of the stage) at the beginning. He didn't do it so often these days. When he comes to my side I open him my arms to do the same, but no results. There are sound variation, people passing make results I move. I went nearer stage from Search and Destroy as people coming nuts as me and hiding my gear as the security guy take the camera from the guy front/besides me. The tracks string together, no break, "Let's do this".

A more detailed from the taper:
Even as recent as the night before Desert Trip was Desert Mirage, the more money I sank in, the more remote the reality of this experience became.

I had zero interest in this show whatsoever when originally announced. Too expensive, too far, too much of a hassle, I have seen all these bands so many times and I always do Culture Collide this time of year. The first domino to fall was when it looked like Culture Collide wasn't happening.

Then a week prior, prices on the secondary market were in total freefall. Started putting out feelers, had an offer on a room across the street at regular pre event pricing. Suddenly wanted to do this so hard. Got the ticket ($182 for Grandstand S4) and locked in the room. Should be able to find someone to drive me out there and share the cost of the room, right?

Turns out none of my friends - many of whom were talking nonstop about this for months - were the least bit interested, even with "cheap" tickets and place to stay.

Even the night before I still had no way out there. Texted every professional driver I know saying name a price. First response back was over 12 hours later. Went to go see Deap Valley followed by ZZ Top on Thursday, still working it the whole time but my phone stopped working up in the hills of Griffith Park so I had no choice but to enjoy the show.

Get home from ZZ Top and in one last ditch effort look at Greyhound, who never seems to go anywhere I need to be. Turns out they have buses to Indio every 2 hours around the clock. And I am on my way! Still never found anyone to share the room which is kind of a sore spot as it put me a few hundred over budget, otherwise I would be scheming for this weekend as I had a great time.

Tapers Notes:
Woodstock couldn't get the Beatles, the Rolling Stones or Bob Dylan in 1969. That miracle lineup was an impossibility then and for most of the years since, until the producers of Coachella finally made a facsimile of that Sixties triumvirate real with this weekend's three-day Desert Trip festival in Southern California.
The Stones set was short on special effects (other than some fireworks near the very end) and none were needed. Stripped down, the Stones are still a rock & roll band to be feared.

Notes by the uploader:
This release is sourced from trade CD-r's. It's an audience recording. It's not the complete show. The opening songs Embryo and Fat Old Sun are missing. Cymbaline is cut just after the footstep sequence begins.

I removed a total of 49 gaps, bad edits, diginoise spikes and checked the speed. I have included a file pf1971-10-31 (T-1606)edits removed.flac which contains all the sound from the edits made when sound was deleted. If you burn as audio I wouldn't recomend including this file on the audio disc. I did the editing, mastering (tweaking), and artwork for this version of this show. Don't add, change or remove any of these files. Please keep the text, md5 and artwork files unaltered, together with the FLAC's. Don't rename directories or file names if you share this. My concern is that when people rename them they drop information like date, venue, location, T number. This information is useful to others when searching for or deciding which version of a show they want or already have.
