04 All That Jazz
05 Stars Are Stars
06 The Killing Moon
07 Rescue

10 Never Stop
11 Thorn Of Crowns
12 The Cutter
13 No Dark Things
14 Heaven Up Here
15 Crocodiles
16 Do It Clean
17 Over The Wall

This is a very good performance and a very good soundboard recording. However, the first two tracks from the setlist are missing from the recording ("Going up" & "Villiers terrace"). It seems that this recording is compiled from two different tape sources, so the second half suffers more from tape hiss than the rest does. Anyway, a very good quality according to the age.

Echo & The Bunnymen - 1980-11-29 - Amsterdam, NL (FM/FLAC)

01. Over The Wall (5:50)
02. Rescue (4:27)
03. All My Colours (Zimbo) (4:01)
04. Heaven Up Here (3:24)
05. Pictures On My Wall (3:01)
06. Villiers Terrace (5:02)
07. All That Jazz (2:49)
08. Happy Death Men (4:49)
09. Crocodiles (with short band intro by DJ at the end of track) (6:47)

This is a combination of three different sources (all original info files are included in the torrent):

The first 14-15 seconds taken from source 3; this simply starts with the music, while source 1 has some audience noise mixed in, which I found annoying; however, the rest of the track has been taken from source 1, simply because it sounds better in my opinion.
Tracks 2-7 taken from source 1.
Crowd noise after track 7 taken from source 3 and source 2.
Track 8 taken from source 2.
Track 9 taken from source 3.

Back in September 2007 I shared my (incomplete) tape of a late 1985 FM broadcast here on Dime, including tracks 2-6. The torrent was pulled down one day later on my own request, because a more complete tape was uploaded by waterisnat soon after. Although it came from another FM broadcast, it had the same songs, which were complete (on my tape the first track misses the start), and it had two extra tracks (1 and 7). It stayed on the tracker for 218 days, and was snatched 185 times during that time.

Early 2010, a tape with two songs from the same show (although mislabeled as from November 20th 1980) was uploaded by fredheadset. It included tracks 3 and 8. It stayed on the tracker for 241 days, and was snatched 162 times during that time.

In June the same year a rip of a 9-track CDr was uploaded by chrispoor. However, the CDr duplicated one song (track 5), because it has been sourced from two different FM-recordings (which in their turn are different from the just mentioned broadcasts). Part 1 includes tracks 1, 4, 9, 7, and 8. Part 2 has tracks 2, 3, 4, and 5. It's still on the tracker, and has been snatched 283 times so far.

Although I wanted to do this before, I now have finally come around creating a combination of the different sources, which results in a 9-track, 40+ minutes long recording.

From The Bunnymen Concert Log: 1978/79 we have the most complete setlist for this show (although it misses Villiers Terrace), which has been used as the source for the running order of this combined recording:

01. Going Up
02. Do It Clean
03. Show of Strength
04. Pride
05. Over the Wall
06. Rescue
07. All My Colours (Zimbo)
08. Heaven up Here
09. The Pictures on My Wall
10. All That Jazz
11. Happy Death Men
12. Crocodiles
13. Pride

Lineage: FLAC level 8 from sources 1, 2, and 3 > seperate WAV-files mixed to a combined WAV-file > splits and conversion to FLAC level 8.
Used software: FLAC v1.2.1 as build in Traders Little Helper v2.6.0 (build 168), Cool Edit Pro v2.00, and CDWave v1.98

Wow is right…direct from Chris’ master cassette…a true GEM…

A perfect mix, and amazing set supporting ‘Heaven Up Here’…it really doesn’t get much better than this…the definitive edition, toss out all others…

Background:
I was lucky enough to develop a pretty solid virtual friendship with Chris Metzler, and seemingly was able to succeed where many others have not: getting him to open up his vast collection of recorded material to digitally transfer. The many requests he received over the years were impossible to fulfill, and he honestly felt badly about ‘hoarding’, but there was little way to oblige all of them over the decades of taping, trading, and collecting

Perhaps Chris saw in me the chance to get his tapes transferred for himself, and also out to the many folks who had requested them since his last trading days many moons ago...

What we have in Chris’ collection is a brilliant snapshot of the Portland \ Eugene \ Corvallis, Oregon scene in the early to mid-1980’s. Then, after a prolific spell taping his favorite bands in and around Portland, Chris scored a job working for Touch’n’Go sister label Blast First Records out of the UK. He became label support for Band of Susans, and worked closely with many of the stalwarts during the heyday of that label.

Chris has also worked closely with many other bands, in various capacities; including Wire and Nick Cave (at Mute Records); the Buzzcocks, after their reformation in 1989; as well as many, many others…far too many to mention. This series does not even begin to scratch the surface of his collection; much of which is privately recorded and cannot be released to the public without the bands’ permissions. Still, what has been offered up is a pretty amazing collection of recordings, and certainly will bring to light a wealth of new material as well as many upgrades which have remained elusive for a long time.

NOTES by the uploader:
This is my personal DATmaster from the show. Weeks before this show I contacted the band's manager by email to ask permission to tape from the soundboard and to my surprise he replied that it would be OK. He gave me his contact info and told me to ask for him at the door. I flew into Vegas for this show with my stealth mics in case it didn't work out but I actually found him at the venue and he set me up with the sound guy who instead of letting me plug into the mixing desk outputs actually just popped my blank DAT tape into the house system which was already configured to record. Needless to say, I was stunned. He also provided me with a backstage pass to meet and greet after the show with the band...best taping experience ever. I have given this out a few times over the years but now hopefully enough time as passed to give it the distribution it deserves. Excellent soundboard and balanced recording...this sounds as good as an official release. No post-processing has been done on this recording.

Welcome to Volume 5 of an exciting new master series featuring the master recordings of dime member "tapetyrant". The series will predominately feature captures in the Northeast and Southern California areas. We will touch on multiple genres with a strong focus on Jazz Fusion, New Wave and Rock.

Tapetyrant was an active taper in the 1980's and much of the 1990's before, like many of us, hanging up the mics. What he captured during that time is uniformly excellent quality and his master tapes have been safely stored, the first batch are in pristine condition. Some shows may circulate from lower generation copies but most have remained uncirculated until now and have not ever circulated directly from the masters.

Prior to DAT, the heavy lifting was entirely done by a Sony D5 with NAK 300's and taping was serious business, acquiring the best seats possible and working to keep neighbors in check.

Volume 5 is another tremendous capture and squarely in TapeTyrant's music orbit featuring the first of two performances at the Beacon Theatre.

The second night currently circulates but this appears to be the first appearance of opening night and is a welcome edition.

Thanks to "goody" for his continued critical work pitch adjusting our releases.

The biggest thank you to "tapetyrant" for doing such a great job capturing these important shows, for reaching out and entrusting me to present his excellent work for all to enjoy for decades to come (tapers don't let those tapes and your hard work get lost to the ages, there are plenty of folks to get in touch with here to help get them out, we're all working to leave no tape behind).

Plus an Interview with Will and Les on French Tv (late 80s) (introduced by Bernard Lenoir?)

On original DVD, some chapter points started at end of song, before MAC says thank you etc. Whilst re-creating this DVD in DVDauthor, I moved some of the chapter points to just before start of song or just before introduction to song.
Original DVD had a simple menu and you could choose either the gig or the interview. It had no track menu. I've changed that. This version here will play straight away, starting with the gig when DVD inserted, but if you use remote control, you can bring up gig/interview menu and then if gig selected, you get a track menu too.

Also note, some of the songs jump abruptly into next song e.g. Heads Will Roll/Zimbo but that seems to be the way the TV station originally broadcast it. Nothing I can do to fix that.

'A Crystal day' project
If memory serves me, in order to get to this gig, you had to do certin things in Liverpool in order to get a ticket. One thing was eat at Brians Cafe and another was to take a ferry across the Mersey. You get receipts or a ticket stamped and then later were told where the gig was taking place. An double e.p. was released later and included a couple of Beatles covers.
