An Eddie Edwards production.
From Eddie: "The work I did on the recording was to balance the channels, speed-correct the portion from GTC to WLL and remove any obvious unwanted clicks, pops and other noises. I did not apply any EQ, noise reduction or anything like that."

Immigrant Song drop-out patched by jameskg.

This is higher quality and more complete than "Peter's PA".
This is the best quality, most complete version of this show available to date.

This is one of Robert Plant's best performances.

TMP notes that this may be the first recording of Celebration Day played live, maybe even the first time played live.

Black Dog is exceptionally good on this night (both Jimmy & Robert are on fire)

Robert doesn't quite yet know the order of the verses in Stairway.

Points of this release that are of note:
1) Much less hiss. Better transfer.
2) SIBLY is complete, for the first time.
3) Speed corrected & balanced out by Eddie Edwards

First off a big thanks to Roughcut for giving us this 3rd recorder from his 1st gen tapes. I took the liberty after listening to this to fix it up for myself and figured I'd share my little bit of work. For those of you that don't know, this tape ran a little slow and had tape flips and a few other anomolies. All I did to this was a minor speed/pitch correction which I think turned out very good and I re-indexed it. There were also a couple of tape flips that I was able to repair in a way where the music is seemless even though the sound quality changes a little bit due to the flip. Overall I am very happy with the outcome and it's much more fluent to listen to and hopefully you will think so as well. Absolutely no music is lost here. The fades between some tracks was a result of the taper doing this when he made Roughcut's 1st gens.

I did not want to get into a discussion about the validity of Echoes being from this date, the 12th, or from some completely other date. I will say that all of this recorder ran slow at the same amount but Echoes seemed to be perfect speed and pitch the way it was, I did nothing to it. Take that bit of info and do with it what you will.

Time: 95m (audio) / 76m (video)

Personal note:
A great show in near perfect quality (audio). This was at the benefit festival for Greenpeace: "Soundwaves for Greenpeace". Some of the best classic Cure songs are played and the show is very energetic. 'Pornography' sends shivers down your spine. Robert's hair was at its best these days ;)

AUDIO: Near perfect. One of the better audience recordings I have. Full show (besides the 'Relax'- intro)
VIDEO: Definitely a VHS rip. Quality is pretty good for an old VHS tape.
The audio is a bit distorted on the low notes, but good to listen to.
The vocals are very clear.
Sadly the last 2 songs (the best of the show) are missing.
Also 'Shake Dog Shake/Play for Today/A Strange Day/A Forest' are cut.
The perfect audio-version makes up for that. According to this was shot with a 'Ferguson' camera. All songs are chaptered.

From The PKP Vaults : Master Tape VHS PAL 85 minutes
In 1981 Siouxsie gave a great concert at the Paradiso. It was filmed for the Amsterdam Pirate TV Station PKP with a portable VHS. They went to the Paradiso in the afternoon during the soundcheck, and it was the guitar player John McGeoch who talked to them and gave permission to film the concert that evening. They filmed from he balcony, and even though it is of course VHS quality from the eighties, it is stil quite enjoyable to watch. The follow spot on Siouxsie shines a little too bright at times but her dancing is great. Plus the concert ends in my favourite song: Helter Skelter. After the concert they were allowed an interview, but the interviewer ( I forgot his name ) was a little intimidated by Siouxsie so could not really come up with any sensible questions, which resulted in Siouxsie getting slightly obnoxious, dipping our microphone in a glass of water and making fun of the interviewer and the cameraman. It's all a little uncomfortable, but I included it anyway, cause it is a rare oppotunity to see old footage of siouxsie talking. PKP broadcasted several songs of the show later that summer, and somehow a copy of this VHS tape came into circulation, and the audio has also been ripped as a bootleg. This however is the best possible copy I could make from the original Master tape, which never left my house since 1981. Do not expect BBC broadcast quality. It is grainy and noisy VHS, but the best we had back in '81.

This recording registers David Gilmour's first ever presentation in Brazil.

Just to put this into context, one have to understand the idolatry level Pink Floyd achieved here in this country. Not necessarely true respectful and knowledgeable fans (they are aorund, en masse) but many for the more "fashionable" and cool aspects of "following" on something that is famous and popular. Also one should consider people's hunger and demand for a gig such as this. Bear in mind Brazilians are not particularly known for their quiet speech and introvert characters. I found out the crowd in São Paulo (which included people from all around the country) to be specially hostile and ungraceful. An average Paulista won't say "please, excuse me" he (sometimes she) will more likely say "get the f@#k out of the way".

This gig is an extra date they added to the South American tour schedule after the initial sales for the December 12 date sold out overnight. This date had chairs added to the front of the venue, at exorbitantly space high ticket prices. The crowd was very diverse, age wise, which was nice. As it is common in Brazilian culture, many people were drunk out of their minds, though... An estimated 40 thousand people attended this show, which pretty much stopped all the traffic in the vicinities of the Stadium, in the already complicated friday evening streets in this chaotic American megalopole. Many people entered late into the concert. Thus all the angry Paulistas shouting people to sit down...

Location: I was around 20 m way form the left stack in what I think was a favourable setting, although people transited in front of me during the whole concert.

It was indeed a lovingly (magic) evening and the sound in the stadium was pretty decent, even though it reverberated/echoed a bit and sometimes a bit boomy. During the intro for Sorrow, I could feel my body vibrating along the "stadium guitar sound". Money started with no bass and was aborted. While wating a bit too long, David offered a few improvised chords, before being interrupted by the bass. After a second try, it was still not ready to go. Only during take 3 the song launched.

There is an abrupt volume switch down during Fat old sun. In the middle of Run like hell all "hell" broke loose and the people started ignoring the rules (it was quiet ironic, since the staff were acting like worm soldiers yelling people to sit down) and the wealthy masses rushed to the front of the stage, prompting us all to stand up and "fighting" for individual space. About what I commented earlier on peolple being drunk out of their wits, this recording bears testimony to this, unfortunately, as you will notice during the encore, which was partially spoiled by a very inconvenient young individual.

I have to say this: If Waters is the master of ideas and concepts, Gilmour is the master of melody, mood and feeling. I have rarely been so moved by the music in a concert as that night. Pure magic.

For you, damned souls thinking of selling this over the internet or on local shops, here is what I say: DON'T!

Here is a list of potential boot titles, though:

What a lovely evening to be in São Paulo.

We were just trying to see if you were paying attention...

Where the f@#k is it?

Take 3, go!

Do whatever you like with it, as long as you don't sell it in any way. I won't be doing a CD-ready version of it, so feel free to dither, remaster or whatever you feel like doing. Use it exclusively for personal, archiving and educational purposes only.

The alternate soundtrack (Get Rid Of The Smoke) was used as the original was of lesser quality and contained several gaps. Conversely, the video had gaps that were exposed by using the new soundtrack. To fill these gaps - (1hr:24min:00sec to 1hr:25min:30sec AND 1hr:58min:55sec to 2hr:05min:40sec) collages made from pieces of source footage was used. It's better than staring at a blank screen, and it's not too brutal as to detract from the show. The 5.1 mix is the PCM channels (Get Rid Of The Smoke) in front plus the original cam audio filling out the back, with gaps in the cam audio being plugged by the PCM source.

This is an audience recording from Berlin 1996. Very good sound and musically good versions of most songs. Very powerful version of Calling Elvis for example. Probably the most powerful version from all 1996 bootlegs I have. Very clear guitar sound and also the vocals are very clear. A highly recommendable recording to have.

Disturbance House is Wendy’s companion volume to Riot House. Unlike the December 22nd show this never saw a vinyl release but first surfaced commercially on Merry Christmas Mr. Jimmy (LS-7208/7209) on Lemon Song and later on the three disc set The Titanic (IQ-016/17/18) on Image Quality. Lemon Song moved “Dazed & Confused” out of sequence to fit the tape on to two discs (something which really wasn’t necessary). Image Quality split the show over three discs and used a copy of the tape that ran noticeably too slow, but did put a picture from the actual gig on the front cover.
Wendy sourced this from the first generation; it runs at the correct speed and sounds good but distant. The main culprit is the PA and the venue itself. Reviews afterwards stated that the sound mix was poor past the first thirty rows in the hall and didn’t reach the back at all. In fact the back rows were huddled to the middle but it is as if there is a vacuum above the stage sucking away much of the sound giving it a muddy quality. It is a similar timbre to the previous evening’s first tape source although this one isn’t as dull and flat. It does have some liveliness to it and is very enjoyable as a whole although there is a lot of hiss present.
Like the previous evening this is another hot show. Plant remembers the early days when they played venues where “you got a concussion if you moved” on stage. After saying he wants everybody to be brothers and sisters (“and I hope the press didn’t catch that”) he dedicated “Misty Mountain Hop” to the Manchester CID and suggests they all leave the faucets running after the show. “Dazed & Confused” contains a very violent John Bonham right before the call and response part in the improvisation that even has Plant calling him to cool it. Plant stops “Stairway To Heaven” and asks the audience to sit down and be quiet since it is “one of the hardest numbers to do with a monkey house going crazy”. Again before “Whole Lotta Love” people shout out requests including “Moby Dick”. Plant replies he’s writing a new drum solo called “The Titanic”. “Heartbreaker” is the only encore and is dedicated to Roy Harper.
The artwork is again an homage to the Hyatt House theme, giving this a red background with photo of Plant from the Sydney, Australia gig. The back has more nice pictures of the Hyatt in Los Angeles and a picture of the band from 1975 continuing the non-sequiturs. Regardless it would be three years before Zeppelin would play in the capital again at Earl’s Court and is a mystery why these shows aren’t more well known. The shows are very good and makes many wish the complete tapes were in as good as quality as the second source for the December 22nd show and hope that fragment isn’t all that exists. However this release by Wendy is pretty good and is worth having.
