Recorded and seeded by interlude2. Matrixing is fine but please don’t share in mp3 or “remix” and reseed as a new version.

This is a very good recording from Section 208. Only the second time I have used this new equipment so I mistakenly had the R-05 set for 44khz instead of 96 by mistake, but I did record in 24 bit. These files are downgraded to AIFF for convenience. Once I get more practice I will start sharing 24 bit WAV but did not seem to make sense this time because I used 44 khz.

There are only a couple of unfortunate spots with a guy yelling, "Sit down!" Otherwise, I think all you Floydheads are really going to enjoy this!

Here is our capture of David Gilmour's 2nd night at the Hollywood Bowl. We were located near the center of the bowl in G2, row 20, in line with the stage left loudspeakers. The LA Area Crowd was actually not too badly behaved this evening, one group of late-arrivers mid-way thru the 3rd song are briefly audible. The recording came out well. David and his band performed an entertaining show with varied material from early Pink Floyd thru his new solo material. We enjoyed this performance. Enjoy!

Notes by the uploader
Taped from the side of the stage, about 60 feet across from the hanging speakers. The mix was a bit mid-rangey from where I was at, and so I added a bit of treble and bass, but nothing drastic. Very few issues with nearby people making noise (the volume was loud enough that they are mostly drowned out), though there are occasional moments when someone walked in front of me. All in all, the recording turned out very well.

There are a lot of copies of a transfer Bob Wilmott did for me many years ago, but sound cards have improved so much I decided to do a new transfer. This is one of the absolute best SRV audience recordings I’ve ever heard even though the crowd is present at times. No close talkers. Samples provided. It is also a great, very upbeat performance. First show of the tour, probably the first performance of “Travis Walk,” somewhat atypical setlist, 2 encores, Stevie in a great mood, clean and happy to be alive.

This was a very special and unique concert. A one off gig for the Invisible Touch (IT) fanclub in Germany. They brought TMB to Europe some years ago. This gig was a sort of thank you show for all those fans. They played a set with Genesis songs from the Nursery Cryme tour, something that they have never done before! Genesis themselves at the time were in fact mostly a support act for other bands, so they had a short setlist. TMB played all the songs they ever did in that period, in the order Genesis did them. Even 'seven stones' was included, which in the setlists it was believed to have been played only once. And it is a strong track when played live. Foxtrot songs were indeed played before the album came out. With one exception: Supper's Ready wasn't done during the Nursery Tour. But to conclude this very special evening TMB decided to give us fans this as a bonus gift! (Symfan)

If I had to give this recording a name, it'd be "Check Your Fucking Cables Dummy". I am so used to using the plug in power on my recorder that I fed my battery box into it instead of the line input. The bad thing is my mic in jack is very finicky and anytime the jack moves, it pops and clicks horribly which unfortunately made it into the recording A LOT. I must stress that this is prevelant throughout most of the songs and it ruins it, but a source is a source and when everything was just so, it worked great. The band was very tight musically and Taylor was in top slinky form. However, she needs to develop her stage presence. She comes off as being very naive sometimes and her banter loses some steam when every other word out of her mouth is "fuck". Don't get me wrong, I love her singing and the songs, but she leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to talking to her crowds. For a band that has been around for 3 years, she still felt the need to introduce almost every song which makes you feel like she just feels the need to talk. All I can hope is that with age will come stage maturity. However, in person, she's very grateful and incredibly sweet and funny. I met her and the rest of the band after the show and they were very nice people to talk to. All in all, a great show with a semi-poor recording due to my dumb-ass attack.

It was a brutally hot and humid day. Absolutely incredible heat. Brad Paisley opened up the show and did a phenomenal job. My only regret was not taping his set. Nice guest appearances by Carrie Underwood and Joe Walsh. Southern Comfort Zone went over very well and set the tone perfectly for the whole evening.

Regarding the recording, originally I had planned to not tape the show. Knowing how little variation there is in the setlist, and that my seats were 11th row on the floor in section E, I really wanted to enjoy this early Father's Day present to me and my dad. At the last minute I decided to record the gig and I am glad I did. This could very well be my last Rolling Stones concert, and if so, I am glad to have documented it. This was my 15th Stones show and I have had the opportunity to see them in large venues (Soldier Field) and small (Beacon). Although the setlist is stagnant, the performance was fantastic.

In terms of quality, our section was moving all over the place so the sound will change here n there throughout songs, but nothing so drastic as to ruin the experience. I only did some light EQing to get the mix to sound like it did that night. It was ABRASIVELY LOUD. LOVED IT. Guitars were pure fire coming out of that PA system! I can critique the house mix to death (Charlie's highhat should be louder, and that snare should crack more on the top end), but overall it was great.

Sound Quality:
Good audience. This recording is very good for an audience recording from 1984. All the frequencies are quite audible, as well as the bass and the high sounds. The audience reactions are well heard but it's not irritating. The music tops the audience.

This is a very "rare" bootleg. To my knowledge only 25 were printed. The discs are gold colored, which could indicate that they are made on private CD-Rs. The disc printing is very plain; only black letters giving the name of the bootleg and the source. The back of the bootleg says it is made in Milano (Italy) but when I bought it the shop owner said that the distribution was only in the Netherlands. This bootleg came together with the Amsterdam 1989 show (also 25 copies). The cover is nice but single-sheeted. The back has the same background. Two pictures shot by Anton Corbijn during the The Unforgettable Fire photo session make the artwork worthwhile. The show is strong and solid. The audience sing along very well. With only 90 minutes of disc space used, the bootleg could have been filled with another recording, but this is not done. This is the original pressing on this label.

A very clean copy that actually used to belong to Dana Gillespie herself and according to her never got played until I had it briefly in the office whilst putting it on eBay for a friend (it sold for 2400 GBP!!!) In all respects a fine example of a standard EMI 1970's pressing. The restoration work needed to be careful due to the presence of a few large clicks but really nothing to bother complaining about. Artwork: Annoyingly I don't have the original scans anymore (the burglary you know...) so the art I have provided comes from a scan of the CD case I originally made for my DVD-A copy, others from the internet. Never mind, it's the music you're really after isn't it? Enjoy!
Euripides May 2011

Here is a genuine David Bowie rarity! Featured on this UK only promotional LP are 5 songs that were to appear on 'Hunky Dory' but with different mixes plus 2 songs that didn't ever appear on the album. The Dana Gillespie material is also from the Mick Ronson / David Bowie 'Mainman' writing and production team. Sound quality is excellent, from a crisp near mint copy of the LP that belonged to Dana herself!

In August 1971, David Bowie's manager Tony Defries had 500 promo LPs pressed to secure him and other Mainman artist Dana Gillespie a record deal. This promo album, featuring seven songs by David on side A and five by Dana Gillespie on the flip, is often being referred to as the BOWPROMO white-label album. The LP came in generic white outer and inner sleeves and had no printed labels, so its matrix number (BOWPROMO 1A-1/1B-1) is the only way to safely identify it. Most of the Bowie songs on this promo LP would appear four months later on Hunky Dory. However, as the recording and mixing of that album had not yet been finished, it transpired that the BOWPROMO LP contained two songs that would not end up on any official album for the next 20 years (Bowie's 'Bombers' and Gillespie's 'Lavender Hill'). Besides, it features marginally to very different early mixes/versions.
The following is a complete breakdown of the differences and relevant info on the selections:

Oh! You Pretty Things: side A opens with a version of 'Oh! You Pretty Things' that sounds very close to the Hunky Dory version, but with a few subtle differences. Bowie's vocal is slightly more upfront on the Hunky Dory version, while the piano on the BOWPROMO version sounds much more 'spatious'. The only genuine difference that is detectable though is the amount of reverb used on the chorus. The BOWPROMO uses this on both the main and backing vocals, whereas the album version uses much less, if any, for both.

Eight Line Poem: on Hunky Dory, the guitar is more central during the intro, drifts to the left and then back to the centre for the end. On the BOWPROMO version it starts on the right then switches between left and right during the second half, again ending in the centre. On the BOWPROMO, the piano completely natural sounding, whereas on the Hunky Dory it has a flanging effect applied. However, this version is best known for a different vocal take. Bowie sings 'The tactful cactus by your window' vs 'Tactful..' and 'They've opened shops...' vs 'Opened...'. The echo used on 'collision' in the line 'Mobile spins to its collision' is also missing on the BOWPROMO.

Kooks: a different stereo mix that fades two seconds later than the official version. E.g. in the intro, both acoustic guitars are centered in the Hunky Dory version whereas they are clearly present in the left and right channels in the BOWPROMO version. Also note the acoustic guitar throughout the entire song on the BOWPROMO, which has been completely faded in the verses on Hunky Dory.

It Ain't Easy: this song was possibly already recorded before 'Changes' and 'Life On Mars', as the latter two are not included on the BOWPROMO album. Of course they would have been very likely candidates to secure Bowie a record deal. 'It Ain't Easy' ended up in 1972 on Ziggy Stardust, in an identical version.

Queen Bitch: this tribute to The Velvet Underground appeared in slightly different form on Hunky Dory. Compared to the latter, the BOWPROMO lacks any reverb on the vocals but adds some reverb on Mick Ronson's riff. The BOWPROMO version can identified easiest by the very subdued 'Hmmm' at the very end, which apparently later was overdubbed on the Hunky Dory version.

Quicksand: the intro of the Hunky Dory version is in mono and only opens up to stereo at 0'51" ('I'm frightened by the total goal...'); the intro on the BOWPROMO is in full stereo from the very start. Furthermore, some additional strings have been added to the Hunky Dory version at 3'20" ('If I don't explain what you ought to know...').

Bombers-Andy Warhol intro: the version of 'Bombers' that in 1990 ended up as a bonus track on the Rykodisc edition of Hunky Dory is a rather tinny mix, lacking in bass. Besides, at 0'23" ("Seemed a good idea to drop a bomb on the wasteland here") and 1'12" ("So the Pentagon sent a cable and the Queen a telegram") into the Ryko mix, there are extra drum beats that do not sound convincingly intentional. As can be heard in the audio excerpt, these 'jumps' are absent on the BOWPROMO album. Also interesting is that 'Bombers' develops into an alternate version of the intro to 'Andy Warhol', which runs slightly longer, as it includes a strum on the acoustic guitar and a few more laughs of Bowie at the very end. 'Bombers' and part of the intro to 'Andy Warhol' have appeared on the ChangesThreeDavidRobertJones (Grace AZL1-1984) bootleg LP. The 'Andy Warhol' intro is also found on MissingLinksOneZiggy (Icon One), but the sound quality of both recordings is rather poor.

Mother Don't Be Frightened: the first of five Dana Gillespie tracks on side B. This song, which was produced and arranged by David Bowie and Mick Ronson, appeared in 1974 on her Weren't Born A Man album.

Andy Warhol: originally written by David for Dana Gillespie, musically backed by The Spiders and produced by Bowie/Ronson. This is a quite different, shorter version (2'45" vs 3'02"), compared to what appeared on Weren't Born A Man. The intro is faded in and the mix is more direct and less echoey than on that album. The outro on the BOWPROMO also is much shorter and less guitar-heavy. This version has recently been released on Oh! You Pretty Things.
